I’ve been attending ATC theatre plays for decades. Each show is a joy to watch. The wonderfully talented actors and incredible stage presentations draw the audience into the era and fantasy desired. This time it was the holiday masterpiece- Scrooge. A great holiday tradition updated with music and costumes to dazzle and delight. But not two years in a row! My only recommendation is to update the shows. Bring in newer or thought provoking plays that will draw a wider age group. Barefoot in the park was a poor choice. An old play that no longer speaks to the women of today. Over the years you’ve given us so much to talk about - from urine town- a show that brought to the forefront a critical concern to wondrous shows that exposed us to other cultures, like Hats that gave us an insight into the magnificent head pieces women of color wear to church while dazzling us with show stopping tunes. Others made us realize the idea of growing old to young rather than young to old isn’t the panacea we may think. Both get us to the same place- dependent on others. ATC’s professional, quality, entertaining plays are an incredible way to...
Read moreATC, Arizona Theatre Company on Scott St. is my very favorite venue in Tucson to see plays and musicals! It is a a more intimately sized theatre so all the seats are great. I just saw 'Scrooge the Musical'. The cast, sets and orchestra were all amazing! A must see for this holiday season. 🙏I feel so grateful for Community night which is the first Wednesday after the show begins in preview week. Tickets are only $15.00 online or $20.00 at the door. We are so fortunate to have this wonderful venue here so please go see a show and help the arts in Tucson keep thriving as it takes alot of passion and work to put these plays and musicals on every season. 1/24/24 I just saw Intimate Apparel and it was a fantastic, moving play!! The actors and actresses were superb in their various roles. The super talented playwright Lynn Nottage has won the Pulitzer Prize twice. The acclaimed director Oz Scott also did an amazing job directing this play. It was a full house last night which was great to see! Bravo to all and thank you for bringing and sharing this wonderful play to our community in...
Read moreWe attended the True West performance at the ATC yesterday and for the second performance in a row left the theatre at intermission. Both this performance and Master Class were very disappointing. Not certain if it was the stories told but they were not up to ATC standards. We have been pleased with the ATC season ticket performances since we returned to Phoenix in February, 2011, as well as those we had purchased in the last 7 years in Arizona in the 1990s. Not sure if it is the relocation to the Tempe theatre, but somehow it just does not feel the same. Now we pay the same amount for one less performance (17%). Regardless of where we have lived over the last 50 years (Seattle, Sacramento, Tucson, Houston, Phoenix), each local theatre company has presented outstanding performances. We do not count the 2 years in Oklahoma City because they had no permanent theatre company and not much live entertainment period. Not sure if the relocation to Tempe and the smaller theatre is to blame, but attendance at performances just does not feel the same. Are we...
