Even as a very nitpicky traveler who can find fault with almost anything, I am happy to write that every aspect of my stay exceeded my expectations.||I'll start with responsiveness. When I called to make a reservation, I was routed to voicemail. But the owner, Amy, immediately picked up and handled my booking efficiently and pleasantly. She provided her personal cell as I was arriving after hours and would need to access the property and room via a keypad. I had doubts about this, but it worked perfectly. A brief letter in my room oriented me to the Inn.||Attention to detail. Amy also left a small carafe (glass) of wine in my fridge, as I was arriving after the nightly happy hour. There were also two very good chocolates in the room. My room included items to anticipate almost any need: an electric kettle, tea, coffee, cream, honey, sugar, etc., a wine opener, a carafe of water (which also - helpfully - had a tag informing that it is sanitized between guests) a vanity kit, lotion, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, mini sewing kit, yoga mat, clothes steamer and mini-iron, hair dryer, and a multitude of outlets. There is also a water filter in the dining area to refill bottles.||Fitness center: The same attention to detail carried though in the fitness center. It is equipped with a peloton bike (and a variety of peloton shoes/lysol spray), a peloton treadmill, a large TV, weights, and several pilates mats along with clean yoga towels to cover them, plenty of clorox wipes, packaged ear buds, and a tablet stand.||Food. I've never liked scones, but the house made almond scones, served with fruit, yogurt and a sprinkle of granola, were heavenly. I'm now a scone fan, having realized I've never had a proper one before. This course was followed by a take on chile rellenos (a bit like a Mexican crustless quiche prepared in a ramekin) with a small green salad and fresh citrus fruit. This was also excellent.||Environment. The Inn is in a beautiful, historic but well renovated, building just south of downtown Tucson and in walking distance to the U of A. The area was very quiet and peaceful. ||Comfort. My room had a quality mattress, pillows and linens, all of which were very comfortable. The room was controlled with a split unit that kept the temperature consistent and comfortable without any noise.||Decor/character. As shown in the photos, the Inn is beautifully decorated in keeping with the historic building and area of town. My room had soaring ceilings constructed of beams and ocotillo - a look I really love - with a bit of the building's old knob and tube wiring still attached, which added to the charm. ||Cleanliness. The Inn was extremely clean. Most hotels, even those that initially seem clean, have filthy baseboards, light switches, corners, grout, caulking, lampshades and light fixtures, along with hair laying around bathrooms and nasty walls. Not here, all of these commonly overlooked items were spotless. Seeing that the Inn was properly cleaned immediately set me at ease upon...
Read moreTHE IRONY & THE ECSTASY One of the first things that I learned upon my arrival at the Armory Park Inn was that every room contained an original picture of an Arizona legend and each room was named after that legend. My wife and I stayed in the Charles O. Brown room [he was a famous Tucson saloon keeper] . I find this ironic, because after my stay I believe that the Armory Park Inn itself will soon become an Arizona legend. The ecstasy began upon my arrival because to describe the Armory Park Inn as charming would be a total understatement! You sense the spirit of history that starts when you arrive and stays with you until long after you have left. The spirit is so strong that I wasn't surprised when the owner told me that she believes a ghost actually resides in one of the rooms. I can't say I blame the ghost, because if you have to spend eternity somewhere, this place might be just the ticket. The past has met the present here in all the right ways. Our room was filled with cutting edge amenities (ie.. charging stations, flat screen tv, oversized bathroom with a refrigerator and modern shower, etc). The attention to detail and everything you experience while you are there shows how much thought and love the owner has put into the place. But it is not just the amazing smell and the decorative touches that make the Armory Park Inn so unique. The heart and the soul of the experience is most reflected by the people who work there. Due to a business meeting my first morning, I missed breakfast and I have been kicking myself ever since. The following morning I enjoyed an omelette that was one of the best I've ever had and can only be described as ethereal. Dora's cooking is magic! My closest comparison to the Armory Park Inn would be to a stay I once enjoyed at the Mansion in Dallas. I was expecting to be blown away by the Mansion's opulence, instead I discovered that the secret to a really great hotel experience happens because of its people and the service they provide. So if you're in southern Arizona, and you're seeking something more than your run of the mill hotel experience, check out the charms of downtown Tucson and the Armory Park Inn. Maybe just like their resident ghost, you'll want to stay there as long as you can....
Read moreThe Armory Park Inn exceeded all expectations, providing a 5-star experience that surpassed even our extensive travels. Despite initial hesitation about staying in a bed and breakfast, stepping through the door immediately confirmed it was the right choice. Each of the uniquely designed rooms, occupied by my family across three of the seven available, boasted modern furnishings that seamlessly blended with the historic charm of the Inn. Every detail, from the luxurious Italian made bedding to the carefully curated amenities, showcased a commitment to excellence.
The abundance of seating areas, both indoors and outdoors, allowed for comfortable relaxation and intimate gatherings. The attention to detail was remarkable, with thoughtful touches like a bedside charging station, luxurious toiletries, and refreshments readily available. Breakfast was a highlight, served in two delectable courses tailored to our preferences and dietary needs. The homemade scones and yogurt parfaits were incredible as was the asparagus frittata. Dora, one of the Innkeepers, noticed my brother’s preference for fruit and took it upon herself to pick fresh grapefruit off her own tree to serve at breakfast!
I truly cannot say enough about the entire staff. Amy, the Inns proprietor, Dora, and Shelia went above and beyond, offering personalized recommendations for the day and ensuring every moment was memorable for our family.
The daily happy hour provided a delightful opportunity to unwind, while the convenient location allowed for easy exploration of downtown Tucson's culinary delights and attractions. A personal favorite was Charo Steak and Seafood. The backyard oasis, complete with a cozy fire pit and well-appointed patio, provided a serene retreat anytime of day.
The small gym, equipped with top-of-the-line Peloton equipment and every amenity was a pleasant surprise, reflecting the attention to detail evident throughout the Inn. They provided all sizes of Peloton spin shoes!
Amy and her team have truly set the bar high, leaving us with unforgettable memories and a reluctance to stay anywhere else. Their exceptional hospitality deserves every accolade, and I am grateful for the opportunity to share this...
