June 2022 - Much improved since my last visit, a year ago. I will definitely stay here, again.
The daily F&B credit has been raised from $10 to $15, which covers about 60-70% of the breakfast cost. Great restaurant with a nice menu. Now, probably the best Hilton restaurant in the area.
My folio did not have all of the F&B credits applied at checkout, but Asst. Manager Alex was very helpful correcting the problem. I also had a problem with my door lock, and the Engineer was quickly dispatched to replace it.
The daily parking fee has been raised from $10 to $16. The previous hotel manager responded to my 2021 post they did not charge for parking. They do, he must not have been aware. Metered street parking is available - there is no meter charge between 5 p.m. and 8 a.m., nor on weekends.
I did not use the pool on this visit. The hallways still smell of mesquite smoke from the grill, but the odor is not noticeable in the rooms.
Repeat, much improved.
June 2021 - Strongly recommend to Hilton Diamond members (and other guests) DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL! Your free Diamond member breakfast is a muffin and a small glass of OJ. The hotel with provide a $10 discount towards anything on the menu. But, but you can’t order a breakfast for less than $20 - $45 per person. Seriously, it is a nice new hotel, but the management tries to squeeze every dollar out of guests that they can. Try ordering an omelet - $14 to $36. Want a coffee or a small juice with that? Plan to shell out $5 each. There are 10 other Hilton chain hotels in the area that ALL offer a free hot breakfast. Save your money and stay nearby at the Reid Park Doubletree. They have a great (free) breakfast, a beautiful pool, a new steakhouse, and are only minutes away. I complained to the front desk on 4 occasions over 3 weeks about the breakfast. Management did not respond to ANY of my complaints. The breakfast hostess offered there were “numerous complaints about the breakfast costs from Diamond members and general patrons.” I definitely was not treated as a Hilton Diamond member, here. There is a nice bar with nightly, live music. Drinks START at $14 and beers are $7. Like smoke free rooms? Not available at this hotel! The hotel hallways and my room were inundated with smoke (from the wood stove in the kitchen) during the entire visit. The hotel advertises they are near the University of Arizona. Google maps shows they are 2 miles from the University. You’ll have to drive to get there. Stay nearby at the Reid Park Doubletree. It is only a 15 minute drive to the Convention Center area and U of A. The TCC Doubletree is the only Hilton hotel in the Tucson area to charge a parking fee. The fee is $10 per day. However, the Convention Center is the only attraction within walking distance. You’ll have to drive everywhere else. Congress Street restaurants are ½ mile away & the 4th Avenue bars are 1 mile away. Additionally, the area around the hotel does not appear safe to walk around. There are no other nearby open facilities at night, and there are plenty of homeless, transients, and probably criminals between the hotel & the Congress Street restaurants. It does not appear to be safe to walk around. The desk clerk confirmed they would not walk around the area at night. It is an easy drive to the bars/restaurants from the other Hilton hotels. Have fun at the 25’ x 20’ x 3.5 ‘ pool. But, you won’t want to walk around the pool deck if the air temperature is above 90 degrees. The concrete pavers are too hot to walk on without shoes or flip-flops. Also, watch out for the 200-pound umbrellas (and stands) being blown about during light breezes – there are no wind breaks to keep the umbrellas from blowing over. Look for the dark scrape marks on the bottom of the pool where an umbrella was blown 10 feet into the pool while I was there. Also, don’t plan on finding an empty chair at the pool. There are 10 chairs at the pool for the guests of the (approximately) 150-room hotel. Stay at the Reid...
Read moreI am updating my review from a 2 star to a 4 star simply because of Christopher. Let me explain.
When I first got here at 12am, without telling me, they put me in a room I did not book and I had to find out it wasn't the room I booked after carrying all my luggage up to the room. I called down and they said, "We don't have any more of the rooms you booked" and that was the end of that conversation... Every other hotel would have called ahead to let me know and given me the option for another room or to cancel. I don't remember this guys name but he did not do that. They made no effort to accommodate my requests for the down pillows they offer and for a microwave in the room, again didn't even try to inform me, they just didn't do it. It's understandable when they need to switch your room or if they don't have the things you're asking for but to say nothing and give you no alternatives says they don't care about my business and it's not acceptable. The app doesn't show a $23 SELF parking fee, PER DAY! (dumbest fee ever since I'm purchasing your services, the least you can do is let me park without gouging me). Valet, which they have, is understandable but a fee for self parking is just stupid. Image if Walmart charged you to park just so you can spend money at their store. So dumb. The fact that they don't tell you there's a fee till you get a confirmation email after reserving the hotel is what made me angry. I will say and give them credit, they did try calling me the next day but I sleep during the day so I missed the call.
Now that the complaint is out of the way, the hotel is very nice! Nice beds, nice rooms and bathroom in the room, love Crabtree products in the shower!
To get back to why I raised my score from a 2 to a 4, Christopher! I got back to the hotel at 445am (having to check out in only hours from then) he was very kind and understanding of my situation! He got me a generous late check out just in case I needed a little extra time, set me up with a wake up call and did it all with real customer service. Not like the service I got when I first arrived. I said in my previous review that if they tried to make this right, I would raise the review but the only way they would get a 5 star is if the parking fee was waived because I'm going to have to explain the extra $46 (2 nights) to my boss because the price I was given after booking the room is now gonna be higher due to them not factoring in the parking fee.
I have to mention, I'm not paying for any of this, my work is. So I have to watch every dollar and the hidden/sneaky fee absolutely gouging you on parking, is the reason I will not be coming back here. I started this job less than a year ago, I'm 1 night away from Gold member with Hilton which shows that I stay in Hilton hotels a lot and this Hilton hotel has lost mine and my companies business. Not Double Tree in general (I love Double Tree), just this Double Tree.
If you don't mind the parking fee or possibly getting a different room you didn't reserve without a heads up or possibly a staff member completely ignoring your requests, then this is a nice hotel and Christopher is a great employee that single handedly saved this review. Thank you...
Read moreThe new Doubletree at the Tucson Convention Center is top notch. The rooms and property grounds are great; as they should be for a new property, and the property is in an amazing location…walking distance to almost everything you want to do in downtown Tucson. Most of that stuff you expect a new property to be, so I wont focus too much on those aspects. I would like to focus on, and give kudos to the staff. The staff at this Hotel is hands down THE BEST in Tucson right now. I have literally stayed in just about every Hilton property in Tucson over the years due to a lot of work travel. I can honestly say I had the best reception at this hotel from start to finish.
I booked several rooms for me and my family during my retirement celebration. The staff was extremely accommodating, from allowing us to check in early, finding the rooms we liked, and giving a thorough orientation to the property. Front desk staff was very warm and welcoming….Its nice when you can tell someone’s smiling with a mask on every time you walk in and asking if there’s anything more they can do. The bartender was also amazing, even while he was task saturated making to go drinks, drinks for the dining room, and drinks for people at the bar by himself….still found a way to make sure you knew he was there and even offered me and my friends a few non-alcoholic drinks to settle our stomachs for the night. Even security was polite (which believe it or not is a problem these days usually)….no drama at all. There’s an art to asking someone to keep it down without being over the top and the security team here has mastered that.
Everyone at the front desk was amazing, but special KUDOS to Javier. I would not be surprised to visit again in the future and find this guy as a manager. Javier was just top notch in hospitality. Again, although he had the mask…I could tell it was all smiles. He showed genuine concern for our stay, always asked if we needed anything when he saw us, and was overall just a awesome nice guy who made you want to stay. He saw that I was juggling a lot of guest and rooms and did everything in his power to making sure it went smoothly….to include finding an available room for me to check into way before my check in time. I’ve been to other properties where this just won’t happen. Not because they don’t have a room available, but because the staff won’t go the extra mile to find it for you and do the right thing to help you out.
Also, shot out to Steven on the wait staff. Dude was awesome and friendly and worked his butt off to get us some to go food for the entire table because we were running late for a flight that day. Above and beyond !
I never write reviews this long, but this team deserves it. Keep it up Doubletree Tucson Convention Center…Setting a new standard in the Tucson area for...
