Wonderful location to attend a large show. We were there for the 15th annual Comic Con. Facility was continuously cleaned with the restrooms looking almost spotless throughout the two days we attended and staffed an exhibit booth.
The only two areas that appeared to need significant improvement were the parking and the food truck area.
Parking seemed somewhat inefficient, with cars backing up down the block and no staff on the perimeter to guide cars to other options. They continued to over sell one of the lots by at least 20 cars, leaving drivers hunting spots for a long time with no spots left and no staff letting drivers know their hunt was futile and they had the option of using their paid ticket at another lot or guiding them towards it.
The food truck selection was decent. However, the Comic Con is almost always held Labor Day weekend. It's hot outside in Tucson EVERY year at the end of August and first day of September. The food trucks are in an area each year that is completely without shade. This leaves food truck customers suffering in the extreme heat of the Arizona sun waiting in long lines to order their food and again waiting for their orders to be completed. Placing dozens of pop up tents and sun shades throughout the outdoor food truck area seems like an easy and...
Read moreI have been waiting for the opportunity to go to the world famous Tucson Gem show for years! The main event at the convention center was disappointing at best. It is more about venders selling over priced and tourist trap products! The Tucson Gem and Mineral Society did have a display there and that was awesome! Too bad it was only 10% of the event. Parking was $12 and no cash. Security told us we can not carry water in and we can dump it out in the restroom. I asked why it that? She stated the venders did not want liquid to spill on the displays. It is ok to buy a $5 small bottle of water and $8 lemonade once you are inside the show and the venders are ok with the chance of the over priced liquid to spill just not the one you bring from outside. Some venders will not allow pictures of their display. I don't understand that part at all! What are they scared of? Is the product fake or so over priced they don't what it end up on the internet? After the event I was doing some research and my I believe the main event is NOT the one to go to at all. There are other events around that would of been much better according to what I was reading. Hopefully I can make it to one of those...
Read moreMy wife and I attended the Toby Mac concert the other day at Tucson Convention Center/Tucson arena. I have nothing bad to say.
The employees and contractors who worked here for the event were all friendly, including security and police. (That says a lot, because not all police are friendly)
It's easy to access any section or row within this arena. It's not too big and not too small, seating about 9700 max capacity. The size of the arena matters, because a larger arena like State Farm in Glendale Arizona, which seats I believe, around 80,000, attending a large concert in the upper sections is like watching an ant on stage.
I attended Community College at Pima Community College back in the 90s, Tucson always has a place in my heart, and it's still a fun place to visit. Like any city, Tucson has some bad places and some good places. The downtown area, which is where Tucson Arena is located, has been revitalized quite a bit and there's a lot to do down there. Night spots, etc. Parking is not...
