Read moreMy friend Good Influence Sharon invited me to join her at the gym, so I said OK even though I have belonged to all kinds of gyms and never go.
Good Influence Sharon said she had the $25.00 monthly membership, but I can join for $10 a month. I think to myself why I would anyone pay $25 when they can pay ten. Besides I never will go to the gym because I like to sit and read, and I feel lost at the gym. I do not say this. I say OK. She doesn't want to hear about it and neither do you, bear with me.
After we finish, she says, let's go to the massage chair and my interest is on fire.
What???
We are in the massage chair, and it is all clear to me the reason G.I. Sharon is paying $25 a month AND actually going.
So, I joined and I say Planet Fitness take my $25.00 a month. HERE, have it!! The staff is very nice, I am there at all hours and they are all great. The place is very clean. VERY Clean.
I have been every day, sometimes 2x a day. I do my cardio, I get in the massage chair or the wave lounger, I have never had to wait for one, folks seem way more interested in exercise, but you know it takes all kinds.
Here is my tip as a noob to gym life. Pick a cardio machine opposite a TV Show that you want to see. I started first day watching Botched Plastic Surgeries which was all bad.
I am the wiser for it and now I can pick a cardio machine opposite a home show, watch these folks say they want something industrial but rustic with an open floor plan and then by the time I want to quit I say, Kerry, stick around for the reveal. Which I do and there it is all neutrals but a little texture, they always say "texture"
Now that is my 30 minutes, I'm going to the lounge chair.
This is a great gym because after you leave you can get a guilt free smoothie it is in the next parking lot.
I cannot even with this place. If I knew about the massage chairs, I would not be chubby --that would have been handled a few years ago.

A few months ago I went in person to cancel my membership. I was moving to an area without a Planet Fitness so I had no need to hold onto the membership. They told me I was good to go and my membership had been cancelled. After that I moved across the country. I happened to open my app to check a couple notifications I got, and found out that I’ve still been getting charged since I left. This has added up to $120 with the late fees which is just ridiculous. (I’m not in a contract by the way, I’m on the plan that can cancel anytime).
I figured it was just a mistake and would easily get fixed with a phone call. So I called. They apologized for the issue I was having but told me that I’d have to come in and cancel again in person. I explained to them that I already did this and the employee at the time confirmed my cancellation, and that it was not possible to come in because I had moved. They again told me that there wasn’t anything they can do. I called again a few days later and got the same answers.
So basically I’m being told that my situation now is that until I decide to drag myself back across the country to fix a mistake that an employee made, I am stuck getting charged a membership fee and another late fee each and every month.
This has completely made me want to stay away from all Planet Fitnesses again in the future, especially this one. Which is a shame, because it was otherwise a pretty good gym. But billing issues and employee accountability is a huge issue.

The people on the other end of the email you provided were not helpful at all and they simply told me to contact the manager or write a physical letter. They investigated nothing.
