Absolutely amazing first time experience learning how to make glass beads from soup to nuts! You are paired one on one with an experienced instructor who walks you through this immersive 30 minute experience.

Gotta give a bunch of shout outs! The staff here is what sets the experience apart. Every single person you meet is exceptional! I don’t know how they have so many talented, hard working, stupendous professionals under one roof. Huge shout out to Ayana who was patient, knowledgeable and a great guide through the glass bead making process. You rock lady!! Another huge shout out to Ari aka Ariana who handles the bookings of the classes. She is so helpful, very pleasant through my 10,000 questions and an absolute sweetheart! Then there was the wonderful Ornelia who must have been a saint in her last life because she has biblical levels of patience. She guided us through the free bead making class which was the icing on the cake experience I will never forget. Thanks Urban Glass from a group of 5 ladies with zero experience we left feeling like our creative juices got a reboot! You made our weekend extra special with these hands on workshop experiences. We are already planning a return visit before summer ends.

Looking forward to picking up our glass coasters and glass bracelets next week. Cheers to a magnificent experience! Until...

I've been searching for places to explore glass, and I was excited to find a one day workshop at Urban Glass. I was drawn to the flameworking class because of the thoughtful expression of how the instructor, Saint, described the process of working with borosilicate glass in their class.

Truthfully, I was so blown away by it all. Urban Glass has a beautiful community based inclusivity spirit and artist centered focus. The studio was well organized and vast. The staff and technical support team are friendly and helpful.

Saint's class had a wonderful pacing to it for a 6 hour workshop. We got to know all of the participants and connect together in a fun way, had a few informative demos on equipment safety and glass techniques, and then got to creating! Han, another glass artist at Urban Glass assisted the class, and it was really great to be able to explore making marbles, small figurines on our own and also have Saint and Han jump in when we needed a bit of extra hands on help. I felt confident from the demos and my practice time to be able to rent space on my own after.

Our class has stayed in touch since, and I know several of us from the class have been back to the studio since to create. I'm excited to return to explore...

NEWLY RENOVATED AND FABULOUS. Urbanglass started life as the New York Experimental Glass Workshop on Mott Street which was fabulous in a very funky way...the studio glass movement had just begun and the "experimental" was the East Coast outpost.

20 years ago, it moved to Brooklyn. Some say the plant had flaws. Some said it had lost its edge.

Yesterday, Mayor Bloomberg cut the ribbon on a new facility in the space where the old Brooklyn facility had lived. It is SPECTACULAR. It might just be the best facility in the United States for glassblowers to rent space and work. Surely, under the management of Cybele Malone, it will be a place where artists wishing to add glass to their work will be able to find craftspeople to help them.

We have watched Urbanglass from afar and are "blown away" by what the Board has accomplished.

This is a very artist-friendly community so call Cybele and visit.......see...

Went on the open day which was really interesting. Did 2 workshops - the glass during which was excellent and very good value as toy heads about 30 minutes in which to play., and thre make a glass bead which was fun but very short- toy should be able to make as many beads as you can in the time skirt, rather than just make one and finish even if it's oy taken half the session time.

Stopped by for the Saturday 1pm tour. Very impressive gallery, but the artists space on the upper floors are amazingly well designed, equipped and maintained for everyone from novice, classes and skilled artisans. So glad to have found this place for renting the large kilns for stained glass or fusing projects, but also has a large space dedicated to neon work and glass blowing.

It is pretty awesome actually. They have great studio space for those into the art of flaming glass into amazing houseware, jewelry and beads. A few times a year many students graduate from the Bead Program and few go on to create dynamic show pieces like @Renaissance Beads for Art Gallery pieces via the_seabrook on Instagram whose beads were showcased here on May 17th, 2018
