I decided to introduce an acquaintance to Gotham West at The Ashland. I know that this food hall has struggled since the opening of Dekalb Market Hall, but they still have interesting options that I haven't yet tried.
While my acquaintance ordered a sandwich, fries, and drink from Bolivian Llama Party, I took a quick stroll to check out Fulton Hall, which replaced a bland BBQ restaurant. I walked directly to the bar and was greeted by a kind and helpful employee who told me about their happy hour drink specials. I ordered two beers and was then informed that I couldn't take them into the adjacent food hall. Okay, so I asked if my acquaintance could bring his food into Fulton Hall. The bartender said that would be ok and we sat in a booth. A few minutes later, the friendly first employee walked over to inform us that we're not allowed to bring food from the food hall. She was gracious enough to allow us to stay and finish our food and drinks. I asked if FH serves food, and she informed me that they do. I was shocked, since there was no hint of a kitchen anywhere in the room. What used to be the BBQ restaurant's ordering area was now a pool table/game section.
Friendly employee brought me a menu and I settled on the $12 calamari appetizer. The calamari smelled fresh (almost too fresh) and had a great crispness. The marinara sauce was ok. Overall, the appetizer was ok. I'd go back for the drink specials, but if Fulton Hall and Gotham West want to survive (there's two other food halls within walking distance), they're going to have to form a more symbiotic...
Read moreDefinitely NOT an improvement over the previous restaurant here. It's definitely downscale and not in that great dive bar way. The food is pretty meh (considering it's such a limited menu you would hope they would do a better job with something as basic as a burger). I think they were hoping it would be a popular hangout so they left half the space wide open with a single, ridiculously dimly lit pool table. Unfortunately, it's not a popular spot at all, so it's just a big, empty, sad space. The sports bar decor is beyond bad - cheap pennants, t-shirts, and offensive cheap photos of women in bathing suits. It's really random, too, so even by cheesy sports bar standards, it's pretty crappy. Why this place is so dimly lit at night is also bizarre - too big to be a dark dive bar, too dark to play pool, too dark to even see what you're eating.
It's a real shame - Gotham Market did a great job revamping the rest of the food hall by adding Hungry Ghost and Bolivian Llama party and by adding more inviting seating, but Fulton Hall is a serious disappointment. Lots of laughably fake reviews of this place on Yelp, so watch...
Read moreWe celebrated our rehearsal dinner and welcome drinks for our wedding at Fulton Hall and it was the best experience! We were looking for a place near the rest of our events for the weekend with a fun atmosphere, good food and drinks and Fulton Hall fit the bill! We worked with Tali, the events coordinator, who was incredibly helpful and communicative through the whole planning process. We had the space for 4 hours - the first hour was our rehearsal dinner where we had ~12 people and were served meals from the a la carte menu. For the welcome drinks, we ordered various food platters and had an open bar based on consumption. Our guests had so much fun, they stayed later, ordered more drinks and Fulton Hall even put out to-go containers so they could take home leftovers. We heard nothing but rave reviews from our guests! Thank you so much Tali and Fulton Hall for taking the stress out of a...
