I just returned from a fabulous 3 countries whirlwind trip and one of the memorable places I stayed at was the Fauna, an upscale, “Feast For The Eyes,” beautifully redesigned boutique hotel in Montevideo. The hotel was lovely, quiet, clean, safe, and comfortable! Its proprietor Jerónimo was the consummate professional, who went above and beyond in making mine and my travel companions’ visit delightful and memorable! He was so friendly and fluent in English and Spanish which was a bonus for me since my Spanish was very limited. He gave great recommendations on where to go, what to see, and how to get around and was just a pleasant human being to be around! Jerónimo impressed me from the start, since I had emailed him 6 mos earlier with questions on personal travel concerns I had that he graciously and competently assisted me with. Also, his suggestions were invaluable! He had directed my group to El Palenque Restaurant for a great steak dinner, and needless to say it did NOT disappoint! It definitely was the BEST steak I had there, and was minutes away from the hotel by foot as well as the shops, restaurants, food stores, museums, markets, parks and the Rambla - “the longest sidewalk in the world!” The Fauna and Jerónimo are deserving of a 5-star rating. If I could give them a higher rating, I would do so with speed and alacrity!!

Read moreOur stay at Fauna Montevideo was nothing short of delightful. From the moment we arrived, Jeronimo provided a warm and welcoming reception, setting the tone for a wonderful experience. He was also incredibly kind in recommending cafes, bars, restaurants, and things to do and see, which made our time in Montevideo even more enjoyable.
The hotel itself is absolutely gorgeous, with stunning decor that blends modern elegance with unique, thoughtful touches. Every corner of the space exudes charm, and even the subtle fragrance throughout the hotel adds to its inviting atmosphere.
Our room was exceptionally comfortable, well-appointed with all the amenities needed for a relaxing stay. While the hotel doesn’t offer breakfast, they provide complimentary fresh fruit in the lobby, which is a lovely touch.
The location is perfect for exploring Montevideo. Situated in the heart of the Old Town, it’s within walking distance of many historic sites, cafes, bars, and restaurants, making it an excellent base for discovering the city.
Overall, Fauna Montevideo is a fantastic choice for travelers looking for a stylish, comfortable, and centrally located boutique hotel. We thoroughly enjoyed our two-night stay and would highly recommend it to anyone...
Read moreFrom the outside, it is hard to see that this is a hotel, but the design of the hotel from the marble staircase to the architecture and artwork is beautiful. The bed was firm, with good quality linens. The room didn't have a separate chair for relaxing, but it did have a desk chair and a work space. A wide variety of teas, a kettle, and a small refrigerator were in the room, and coffee was provided but you needed to make it in the lobby. The lobby also had a nice liquor cabinet for guests to sample.
The owners offered excellent service, answering our questions over email before we arrived, and then over Whatsapp while we were there. They had great recommendations for places to eat (Escondite and La Farmacía were excellent), things to do, and how to get around.
Two things that weren't perfect: 1) The wifi in our room, the second room from the stairwell, was inconsistent. Even late in the evening, we had trouble with streaming. 2) The soundproofing of the rooms is good but not great. We could hear when our neighbors were having a conversation and playing music, although the soundproofing was good enough that we couldn't make out anything they...
