OK. I had told my friends that this place I first visited 9 years ago is the best backpacking place in Western Australia. However, the two days I was here again were enough to destroy those memories. First of all, the key door that has not changed at all compared to 9 years ago… Even my room door couldn't be opened or locked with a key. Even, the reception staff brought the master key, but it didn't work. Second, the bathroom fan, not working hand dryer, dirty hand towels… Thirdly, the sound of drums playing from the neighbor's house at 11pm on a Saturday night. (The house next door is even a 4-star hotel..) And I was pleasantly surprised and surprised by the noise of European backpackers who came in after 12 o'clock in the evening after work during two days. I was surprised that there are no night watches here, and no one manages them. Nine years ago, the manager and maintenance staff worked hard to manage and maintain this hostel, but now, after Corona, there are fewer staff, and maintenance is remarkably poor, so I can't hide my disappointment. Reception staff were friendly…

Arrived at 4pm at a 6 dorm. One person was asleep and got really annoyed about me getting sorted and the noises- sorry but that’s what hostel life is about: people come and go. She angrily ripped off a paper from the front door- replace it afterwards which basically said: people are working night shift, be quiet, please- signed by management. Well, get your own room then if u are staying long term and work during the night, don’t bother other people whilst everyone was really quiet. Showers most of the time nasty, other facilities nice and a huge common area on two floors and a nice pool. To sum up: many long term stays here, some of them feel like other people entering their private living room, not a place to meet other travellers, quiet, close to the beach, aircon and fan equipped.

Best kept secret for cheap accommodation to suit any pay scale. Close to Cable beach and some yummy restaurants. Staff are very helpful and the rooms are well kept. Cheap food and drinks across the bar too. Fridges in the shared kitchen to store your food. Great set up.

Terrible Management, arrogant, unfriendly, unhelpful, and felt like he was doing me a favor, instead of treating my properly as client should!

Somewhat racist as well, as he made comments like “that’s the way it goes here in australia if you don’t know I can sympathise!” In a very sarcastic manner.

So that’s the story as it follows:

I had been there for over a week, I was planning on staying another week, but the hostel was fully booked and I was checking in and out on daily basis pretty much. So it happened that yesterday they didn’t have any spots left for me, even though a couple of day before I went to the front desk to book for more days, and I was told that the system was down and to just keep on checking in the morning. As apparently they only had spots for the following day, I was told by one of the girls that I would be notified of any cancelations or if anything changed, so then I had to check out. Anyways, I did the checkout, went to grab my bags upstairs. As there is a common area upstairs as well, I just set on the sofa to search for other hostels and find a place to stay as the city is really busy and hard to find accommodation atm. When I went down to book for the following day at least, the manager Aarón, I believe it’s his name, approached me and in a very rude manner was calling mate and asking rhetorical questions such as: You did the check out didn’t you? So what were you doing upstairs? I’m asking you what were you doing upstairs! You must have seen the sign no visitors upstairs haven’t you? So why where you there?

I swear that I had to take a few deep breaths to keep calm and handle the situation as a grown up stable person!

That felt really frustrating, disrespectful, and extremely unprofessional! As by their own mistake, and after being there over a week, and in fact, making reservations for the following day, being handled and treated this way. He didn’t have enough, so he finally told me that he wouldn’t have anything for me at anytime, and asked me to leave the premises!

I’m pretty sure this guy as a 50 year old grown up male, has no qualifications to be in the position he is, and that’s a shame because the hostel is actually pretty decent in comparison to other hostels. It’s definitely not a 5 stars hotel, not a spa resort, but for a hostel is a pretty good facility! Funny being treated this way, when the city functions due to hospitality, and backpackers keeping businesses alive, and people like Aaron acting like gods with no respect for reason, purpose or motive. All the other girls and guys working there were lovely though.

I hope the owners get to see this, and actually analyse whether it is worth it or not to keep Aaron as a manager, as I just read a few reviews and surely enough I’m not the first one to have had a bad experience with this gentleman!

I’m definitely not recommending nor returning to this place for that one motive only!

Cheers guys much love...

Very inconsiderate hotel and feel like being treated inhuman. I have very bad experience with this hotel and the reception manager.

As a 4 star hotel, I didn’t expected that they don’t let me to stay just because I cannot check in during their reception working hour.

I was on the road trip and I booked a mixed dorm in this hotel, but I arrived later that I expected. I arrived at 9pm and the office closed. Then, I was being told that I cannot stay anymore cause they don’t do late check in for dormitories and said this would disturb others?! Private room late check in is fine but not for dorm?! I have already settled all the payment but seems like that they assume late = not coming?! I think they should at least provide some way for people to do self check in. If you ever stand in costumers’ side, you will put your customer in a situation that having no where to stay at night.

And when I asked for refund, they rejected me because if I have noticed them in advance they can re sell the room. 🙄 I just come late didn’t mean that I need to cancel. On top of that, I did come just you...
