We were a large group of 21. I asked the owner specifically before we booked and again before dinner how much the set dinner was. After dinner she charged me an extra 10% GST that I had to pay out of my pocket because I didn't collect it. She told me I was the only one that ever complained yet I see several posts here claiming extra charges and unknown charges on their bills. She lied to me!! Australia tax law states: "The ACCC requires that businesses include any taxes in the priced displayed on products. This includes GST, which you cannot exclude and add to the price later. Businesses must ensure that they do not mislead consumers by misquoting the price". Lume knows this and is scamming their patrons. Also....Beware there is no air conditioning!! Our group suffered in the heat throughout dinner. I had to ask for more fans but still way too uncomfortable. We know good Asian food and good service. The food was well below average in size and taste. For the prawn dish, each person only got one deep-fried prawn. The service was very slow and inexperienced. The food was served without serving utensils so each person had to use their own forks to serve themselves. Despite asking, the dishes still had no serving utensils. The surrounding at first glance look great, but the wall decorations are paper flowers which are filthy and covered in dirt. Nothing good to recommend at this restaurant. Beware...

Great Food, But Disappointing Service

As we are from Brisbane and had a relative on the Gold Coast from Adelaide we looked online for somewhere to dine, We decided on Lume Asian Restaurant in Coolangatta based on the reviews and were impressed with the food—it was delicious, fresh, and full of flavor. The atmosphere was pleasant, and overall, we had a great dining experience, with a bill for 3 just over $160.

However, what happened afterwards left us disappointed. Just as we were about to leave, a staff member stopped us, claimed they had added the bill incorrectly, and said we owed an additional $24. Without much explanation or apology, they abruptly handed us the EFTPOS terminal. It felt unprofessional and uncomfortable, especially since this happened after we had already settled the bill.

Mistakes happen, but this could have been handled with more courtesy and care. It left us with a sour taste despite the great food. Hopefully, the management can work on improving customer service and handling such situations better...
