My son burnt his finger/possibly got electrical zap when pushing the power adaptor switch in the bedroom which I then noticed had no safety cover over the button and the exposed bulb was hot. I rang after hrs as reception closed, to have it swapped my maintenance, the following day I didn’t have any follow up call from reception about it. My partner also got a zap down her finger when turning on the tv PowerPoint. And the master bathroom powerpoint, I plugged my phone charger in the right side and it started buzzing, I had to put it in the left side for that to stop. Electrical needs attention! The bathroom ceilings have mould. The furniture is dated like they haven’t bothered to modernise it which id expect for $940 for 2 nights! The aircon is great in the lounge area but fully cranked and on lowest degree and it doesn’t cool the 2 bedrooms down which have no aircon, only fans, which meant I woke hot and uncomfortable both nights (January) and definitely recommend having a 2nd aircon installed in the master bedroom. Never had a hotel that hasn’t got adequate cooling before, even cheaper ones I’ve not had this discomfort. The layout and size of the apartment was good and spread out feeling however the aircon didn’t extend to the other end. My 10 yr old daughter was nearly burnt in the shower as there’s not Hot or Cold indicator on the taps and she thought she was making it colder but it suddenly went straight to scolding hot. I assisted her and also found the taps went from cold to scolding hot. This needs addressing. There was what appeared to be a milky spew patch swirling around in the shallow part of the swimming pool for hours that we were there in the large pool. Some guests were afraid they and the kids would get gastro so they left the pool. No staff attended the pool either time we were down there. The stovetop fan had no working fan, when I looked it up at it, it was filthy. We got back from dinner and walked into the lobby area around 8pm and as it was closed up, it smelt strongly of damp mould. A smart tv for Netflix access would be good. The hotel room wasn’t modern at all, kitchen looked like an early 90s design. One 1 tiny complimentary shampoo and conditioner despite a family of 4 staying in the 2 bedroom 2 bathroom apartment so not enough for us to all wash our hair after we went for a swim after arriving. Beds were comfortable but the shutters let in so much light I thought the sun was knocking at my window at 6am blinding me with bright light. So we all woke far earlier than we wanted to on holidays. Definitely need blockout curtains in there. The size of the apartment and great location in town wasn’t enough for the price tag let alone the other disappointing elements. I did find the staff friendly and helpful at answering my needs, when they were at reception. This is my honest experience. I probably wouldn’t return. I’ve paid this price before for much more updated rooms with spas in the room and room service and...
Read moreI enjoyed my recent escape to Ocean Plaza Resort very much. Reception staff were lovely and met all my booking requests. I stayed on Level 17 and had amazing ocean views. The location was fantastic, with the beach directly across the road and shops, bars and restaurants virtually on the doorstep.
The building itself is 30+ years old, so don't expect ultra modern accommodation. However, my apartment (whilst being slightly dated) was extremely spacious and comfortable with everything I needed for a short stay. There was a huge smart TV with Foxtel and a DVD player. Water pressure in the shower was perfect and the bed was super comfortable with crisp white spotless sheets. The elevators were fast and efficient and the floor I was on was very quiet (I didn't hear a sound from any neighbouring units or the elevators) - only the sound of crashing waves at night, which was just heaven!
On the downside, relating to the apartment I was in, the worn marked carpets need replacing (preferably with tiles and colourful rugs, which would far better suit rental beach-side living) and a new matching crockery set is needed, as the one provided has definitely seen better days. Also, the dusty old-fashioned dried flower arrangements should probably go and be replaced by something ceramic that the cleaners can more easily address. Whilst on the subject of cleaners, I think they need to pay more attention to detail. On arrival, I found food splatter on the roof of the microwave and the kitchen floor was quite grubby, both of which I could easily fix myself. However, I chose not to use the oven or the washing machine for the same reasons. It appears the cleaning crew just do a quick wipe-over surface clean, which is perhaps all they are given time to do, but basically the whole place was in need of a good spring clean.
On the whole though, I had a wonderful time, as the views and location meant everything to me and the staff could not have been more helpful. I took advantage of a really good deal which was offered prior to commencement of the school holidays, so my mini break was definitely great value and I would love to return some time in the near future and do it all again. Thank you once again for a...
Read moreIt is my belief that your experience at Ocean Plaza will be based upon how lucky you get with which room you are allocated. We were unlucky and stayed in unit 83.
Lots of the units in Ocean Plaza are individually owned, and therefore the level of upkeep is random and depends upon the owner.
When we checked into our room we were greeted with crumbs on the kitchen bench, sticky and unvacuumed floors, sticky door handles and a dirty toilet. As we have a small child we quickly spent some time wiping down surfaces etc, but the vacuum in the room was about 30 years old and the mop had no mop head. The next day we contacted reception and the cleaner attended to clean the apartment again - lots of excuses about being busy. Just made it evident our room was barely cleaned before us checking in.
As we are travelling with a small child we were particularly concerned about the safety issues in the room. The taps have no hot water temperature regulator which means the hot water coming out of the taps is so hot it nearly burns. The windows have cheap plastic stick on devices fitted to one of the 5 windows in the room to stop the windows opening fully. So 4/5 of the windows is non complaint and a major safety issue!
The kitchen was outdated, with the laminate chipping off all of the cupboards, stains not cleaned. Curtains were old and musty smelling.
The facilities in the building were adequate but also indicate a complete lack of attention or update in years e.g table tennis table and equipment pretty tattered, air con not working in that area. Pool area was good though.
For this price (almost $500 a night), I would not stay here again. The great location does not make up for the complete lack of care the owner of this unit must have for their guests. Take your hard earned money elsewhere! I await the aggressive response from the business manager - I think the reply will demonstrate whether you’d want to stay at...
