We had a special event to celebrate and my wife picked Saborna 23 to book a table. Overall experience was pleasant but definitely below expectations.
What we liked: Location of the restaurant is one of the best you can get. Easily accessible by foot or by car (a few paid parking spaces around). The house was very nicely renovated and you can tell a lot of the original architectural details were well preserved. The daily menu options were good choice and our company actually enjoyed them better than the dishes from the regular menu.
What we did not like: We were slightly surprised by the fact that you pretty much have no option to select your water. The tables were preset with Italian branded water and we did not appreciate the fact that no Bulgarian alternative was available. The seems rather weird in a historic old part of a Bulgarian city renowned for its thermal and natural springs, but as the waiter explained - "it is a decision of the management". The restaurant aims at a certain service level but while the water is Italian the waiter was serving us in a track suit, running shoes and diagonal bag on the chest. Nothing wrong with such type of outfit, just a bit contradictory to all the other well-thought details in the restaurant. The place is definitely not kids-friendly and this was our main discomfort. We were visiting with our 11-month baby and informed about this in advance when making the reservation asking for a suitable table. No part of this request was taken into consideration. The table and chairs provided were regular and a kid/baby definitely cannot use them. When asked about baby chairs the waiter seemed almost proud they do not provide such. Food was hit and miss. Daily options were quite good while standard menu ones were underwhelming. Main vs Side dish ratio was off. Overall value for money is unsatisfactory in my opinion.
A few things need to be taken care of but overall the place has...
Read moreGourmet dedikation and warm professionalisme combined into nerly perfection. This is a ‘must experience’ if you are in Plovdiv! My bonus son and I visited one year ago rather late as an Quick decision because we were ‘a little hungry’ What we experience was beyond expectetions even though it is not hard to figure out that this restaurant and staff is in it for the passion og Gourmet. We had Falafel, fish-kebab, wangu-steak, and tempura. Everything fantastic and Surprising - the fundamental effort applied into the Food as it should. The eye however was not left hungry either - beautiful for the most part but with the signature of every ‘above’ restaurant in the World: The art of simplicity and keeping free from the trap of adding ‘accesorie’ for the looks - nothing on the plate was ‘something easly left out’, but everything hat its role. The most fantastic of all eas therefore (naturally) a kind of Púre from servet ingrediens with a Long history of perfection. That in itself was a masterpiece worth travelling for. Alert: it came with a dish ‘outiside’ the menucart. Thank you for a wonderfull experience and see you soon, as I am back en Plovdiv for 14 days with 12 days to go - and I Will be dining@you at least 2 times in the periode. The Big...
