We did not have any reservation when we arrived in Siem Reap and Millenium guest house was on our way from the bus station to the city center. ||||We checked the rooms and they were bright, clean and fresh (10$ for a fan room, 15$ for AC). That's the prices you can find on booking.com so, as we saved them the booking fees and were about to stay for 5 nights, we asked for a discount. The manager (owner?) was not keen to give it to us, we did not insisted but walked away. Then, he agreed for 9$ if we stayed 5 nights. ||||Then, we realized that there was no hot water in the shower. So we asked if it was normal. The answer was: If you want hot shower, you pay 12$ ... Did not want to argue with the manager. It seems that around 8$ a night near the city center, for a double room with a bathroom attached, you don't get hot shower (I checked in two other hotels). In the morning, we wanted to refresh our room, but we could not open the window. So we just let the bathroom door open and use its ventilation. And, we don't mind, but some may, they didn't clean the room during our stay. ||||So, beside the not so friendly (for Cambodia) manager and the lake of hot water, the room is pretty clean and comfortable (there are hangers so you can dry your clothes), the bathroom is simple but again very clean and there is a tv with cable channels.||||Note that the bedding is...
Read moreI came back to this Guest House because I had stayed there for a few days three years ago, and had found it really good value for money. However, I was rather disappointed that it seems to have gone a bit downhill since then. Room was a fair price (USD8/night for a fan room, which suits me) but the TV was broken, and there was a leaking hose in the toilet/shower so the floor was wet and slimy. I hate that! I don't think the owners are spending money on necessary maintenance to fix the little problems. Another problem (for me) was that somewhere outside there was a karaoke blaring over a loudspeaker until late at night. Not the fault of the Millenium, and presumably this affects all the hotels and GHs within range, but there it is. So stay away from this part of town unless you are going to be out yourself until late (maybe at the karaoke?). ||||On the plus side there is a really good bakery shop 5 mins down the road. Everything half price after 6 p.m. On the corner further down the road you can get a good coffee for a dollar. There is a convenience store nearby, and of course plenty of eating places where you can try Khymer dishes (washed down with a 50c glass of local...
Read moreWe were recommended by a friend to stay at the Mandalay Inn across the road but we didn't pre-book and when we arrived it was full. Millennium Guest House was just across the road so we wandered in. We paid $15 a night for a twin room with air conditioning. In hindsight we didn't need the air con as the room had a fan as well. ||The room was basic, 2 large beds, a hanging rail, bedside table and small TV. But that's all we needed! The bathroom was small and we had an issue was the warm water to start with but it was soon solved. The shower was a trickle of water so it took a long time to wash your hair! ||The staff we came across were really friendly and desperate to help you enjoy your time in Siem Reap, we used their tuk tuk driver to take us round the temples on 2 of the days and what we thought was a really reasonable rate. The drivers English wasn't great so if your after a proper tour then book a proper tour guide. ||Overall the staff were friendly and the room was clean and basic, and minutes walk from Pub Street, so easy really if your...
