Long, mixed review. Multiple issues. Not acceptable. We chose Mt. Robson Inn based on it's location and reviews. Upon arrival quite late at night, it seemed nice. We had two nights here. Parking was a problem, not just with a place close to one's room, but a place anywhere on the lot. A least one car each night parked carelessly and took up more than one place. We had an older upstairs room and since there was no elevator, we ended up hauling our bags up the steep outdoor stairway. There was some construction going on when we stayed, so there was daytime noise from that and the big equipment was left in the overcrowded parking lot at night, taking precious spaces. The lot was also poorly lit at night, which is a security risk. The room was large and comfortable enough with two Queen beds. The windows looked out on a connecting hallway at a blank wall. For reasons of security, these had to be kept locked. The window over the bed looked out on the parking lot. Since the air conditioning did not work properly and the room was stuffy or too cold, we left this open a little, until the loud noises from a drinking parking lot party kept us awake. Task lighting was good in the bathroom, but there was no ambient lighting, or very low wattages, so the living area seemed dark. There was a lack of electrical outlets for charging our personal electronics. The TV remote did not work, so we changed the channels by hand. That would have been OK except the channel numbers did not match the listings. On the second night, we noticed that the room had not been properly cleaned. The bed linens were not changed and it looked as if the bed had been made by just 'throwing it together'. The used towels were not changed. I know that sometimes with a stay of more than one night, this is not done. But for the price we paid, better housekeeping was expected. Wastebaskets were not emptied either. The toilet was not cleaned and the carpet did not appear to have been vacuumed. Our bags were moved and disturbed. This means that somebodies hands could have been inside them. An uncomfortable feeling to be sure.
Breakfast is served in an adjoining building. It was hot and decent. What was not acceptable were the serving attendants. They stood at service positions behind most tables, and as soon as one set their fork down they moved in to take the plate, whether one was done eating or not. Then there was a Breakfast Dining Room Monitor; collecting dining passes to qualify diners before they could enter. This made people very uncomfortable, and made the dining room feel like junior high. So at the end of this review, I would say that for what this hotel cost, service was poor and unfriendly. The housekeeping issues were not resolved, but I did speak to the manager on the morning we checked out. To be fair, she agreed with me that the service rendered us was unacceptable and she removed half the rate for the second night. She even brought in the housekeeper to argue her point with me. That is an internal problem and not my concern. One does not do that with guests. She tried, but it...
Read moreThe inn was "okay". I had stayed there once before and recall not being completely impressed or blown away but I decided to give it another go.
I booked a room online for $200 - they needed a credit card for the deposit on the room which I think it pretty standard. When I got there, I asked to have the credit card amount refunded, and the full amount put onto my debit card instead. They refused to do this, said it couldn't be done because the card was charged weeks before (maybe that's true, but I know if places I have worked, you can definitely reverse a charge even if its days/weeks passed...but okay...)
I knew that the room I booked was quite small - it's the Economy Room, but for $200, it was pretty unimpressive. There was no view - we were backed onto the parking lot. The parking lot is a bit small/tight when it is busy. Except for some sliding glass doors to the bathroom, there was no real separation or privacy for the bathroom. The lights weren't very bright in the room, the floor creaked, you could hear all of the neighbors above walking around, slamming doors etc. The TV was absolutely terrible - It looked like maybe there was a loose cable, but the picture was are crackled/snowy/fuzzy. The in-room coffee was disgusting- don't even bother with it. It's a one cup serving, but it is so watered down, it's really just colored water.
They did have plenty of towels and PHP items. The air-conditioning was very quite (most hotels are not like this from what I have noticed). The bed was comfortable. The room itself looked clean and tidy.
There is also a continental breakfast included with your room - it was alright. Scrambled egg patty, sausage rounds, pancakes or french toast, bagels, cereal, yogurt, fruit, juice, coffee, tea, hot chocolate. If you are staying over the weekend, be sure to go closer to when it's open (6:30am) because it gets VERY busy near closing (10:00am) - it is crowded - the serving room is small, and I guess people don't know how a line up works - the people that were there when I was there kept darting from station to station. The coffee here is MUCH better. The eating area was spacious, but again, can get busy/full.
The staff was pleasant to deal with, we had no issues there. I suppose for being right in Jasper, the price isn't unreasonable, just wish there was a bit more to it. Seeing as it is on the "cheaper" side for price, and it is clean, I would probably...
Read moreEasy check in with Friendly staff with. Easy access to Marmot Basin Mountain ski resort and to Jasper town strip. The room was visually appealing, but the arm chair was a little over sized for the room, which made it hard to open the curtains. I usually found it safer and easier to park on the street with my truck so I could see it as my very expensive ski gear was in there as I wasn't going to lock my gear into the lockers in the parking lot that I could not see from my room, I know I was told it was safe but custom skis, not cover if stolen unless on camera (on camera if stolen from within my truck due to my built in cameras). I understand that it's winter and carpets get dusty from the sand and salt but when the rooms where renovated someone should have thought "hey, maybe tile in front of the door so sand/salt doesn't get tracked all over the room is a SMART idea" because when you get out of the shower and walk across the room on the carpet it feels like you have just walked outside on the sidewalk. Being on the lower floor was nice but listening to people walk above you when you are not used to it was not so nice, nor listening to them slide the glass door in the middle of the night. The room was somewhat stuffy and when you opened the window to have a bit of fresh air it was sometimes hard to hear anything due to the trains, don't get me wrong some people might not even notice these things but people like me who don't have people living above and are used to city noises it was a bit hard to sleep through. The hot tub though was wonderful even though I am allergic to the chemicals LOL, but I just needed/wanted to sit and relax after a long drive. I had a few other issues here LOL, the fridge froze my fruit and veggies which kinda sucked. However for the cost the value is good. I was on a different time zone so I never made it to breakfast, by the time I was ready for food it was finished. The room was clean enough for this OCD travel photographer. It was also easy to get to the town strip and to...
