We were in town for a wedding at the Moffat Inn's sister hotel. First on their website the code we were provided did not work for the wedding block, I was later told it had expired. Wedding was still a month away Ok so I take a full price room at the Moffat instead of a the Queen's Landing as it is a little cheaper. I say a little cheaper $350 vs $500. So yes I do not expect the exact same amenities and rooms as the 500 dollar hotel but seriously. I have had better rooms for less then 100 dollars at places like the Best Western. This hotel takes advantage of the fact they are in downtown Niagara on the lake and charges according to that not according to the actual standards in their hotel. Walking in the rear door of the building you find the pop machine which I have now learned has been broken for over a year possibly 2. Walking through the lobby the carpet is dirty and has holes. They have tried to cover these holes with out dated furniture. There is a dresser randomly in the lobby. The young gentleman behind the counter was very helpful when we checked in, made sure we knew where we were going and that if we had any questions we were welcome to speak with him. Very Polite Heading up to our room, the bannister heading up the stairs was ripped off the wall and not fixed. You could tell it had been like this for sometime. We did check in early so house keeping was moving around but honestly I think they need to be taught not to leave piles of garbage in the hallway outside rooms. It just doesn't look good on the hotel. Once in our "Premium Queen Room" we realized a few things were off. First the bed was not a queen, it was a double. Second the bathroom is so tiny that you need to straddle over the toilet to be able to close the door. I get this is an old building but seriously, this is not acceptable. The bathroom was all new so you could tell renovations had been done meaning corrections could have been made for the size. So we get back from the wedding its 11:30pm, I call down to the front desk and ask if the clerk "Mark" if he knew anywhere local we could order in from. I was looking for pizza or something, you know drunk food. He snaps at me that nothing local is going to be open at that hour and to use Uber eats. They have an automated text concierge who was more helpful and advised me I might get dominos from down the road till midnight. When the dominos man arrived and my spouse went downstairs to retrieve the order and was given dirty looks by Mark as he paid for the pizza and headed back to our room. Over all the hotel was there for what we needed it for but really I expect more for a room that costs $350. Unhelpful staff, Dirty Carpet, Garbage in the halls and misrepresented rooms size had lead me to this review and I would not recommend this hotel to anyone who is expecting value for their money. Again I have had experiences similar in hotels where rooms cost me sub $100 a night but at this price I...
Read moreUpdate: after staying at one of the other Vintage Hotels last week, I am updating this from 2 stars down to 1 star.
My husband and I were in Niagara on the Lake for the Shaw Festival on Sun July 31. It was our first time visiting Niagara on the Lake. We booked a night at the Moffat Inn because it was close walking distance to the theatre. We also had Vintage Hotel gift cards and the Moffat Inn is one of their hotels.
After we checked in we were quite unhappy and disappointed with our room (#126). The room was hot/humid although the air conditioner was on full blast. The mini fridge was barely cold, even after I adjusted the setting to maximum. The bed was lumpy and uncomfortable. The furniture was old and stained, and the carpet was dirty. Glad my husband and I brought slippers! The bathroom could have been in a better location (the door opened right in front of our bed). But the worst was that the bathroom DID NOT have a functioning exhaust fan! There was not a switch to be found. We checked every wall in the bathroom and the entire room. I brought this to the attention of the gentleman at the front desk. He said there “should be a switch somewhere.” Our room was located just behind the front desk room, less than a 20 second walk. He did not offer to go to our room to assist us, and also did not follow up with us afterward. No offers were given to change our room.
The next morning, Aug 1, we checked out an hour before the scheduled check out time, as we couldn’t bare being in that room any longer. The lady at check out was friendly and apologized to us re the unsatisfactory room. She said that not all rooms were like ours and that she hopes we will give Moffat Inn a second chance. No credits were offered, for our inconvenience, discomfort and dissatisfaction. And no future credits were offered. Thank goodness the gift cards covered the room booking. I would never want to pay to stay in a hot/humid room, with barely functioning air conditioning and fridge, along with a non functioning exhaust fan in the bathroom.
Next time we are in town, we will definitely NOT be staying at the Moffat Inn. For us to give them a second chance, the room would have to be complimentary. Even then I would be hesitant. If the manager cares to contact us, they have the number. And I will not call back and waste my time to repeat what is already stated in this review.. If anyone really cared, something would have been done during our stay.
And to all future guests who end up booking Moffat Inn, and get room #126, BEWARE and GOOD LUCK! I hope you will have a better experience than us. Or better yet, stay at another hotel. Don’t waste your money here. Next time we are in town we will be staying at another hotel,...
Read moreDO NOT STAY HERE! UNSANITARY CONDITIONS! FECES FOUND ON BED!||Firstly, we arrived and did not receive the room we booked. We told management and they said that since we booked through booking.com, it was not the hotel’s issue to address. Mind you, the whole hotel was empty and they could have given us the room we actually booked.||When we entered the room and got organized, I kicked the decorative piece (called a bed-runner) off the bed and onto the floor. The next day when we went to make the bed, I picked up the runner to put it back on, and we smelled something extremely disgusting. I leaned over to figure out what it was, smelled it, and realized it was clumps of FECES stuck onto the runner which had been lying on my bed!||I immediately reported it to the lady at the desk and the housekeeper came up and put the feces in a bag. We asked if she could change the bed. She did not clean (shampoo) the carpet, nor did they offer us another room!||That day we left early to tour the town and while out we decided we were too disgusted to stay the remaining night, so we packed all our things and got out of there. ||Finding feces must have meant that when housekeeping attempted to clean the room, they did not change the bedding at all, or they would have noticed the feces from a previous guest. ||FECES HAVE ECOLI, PARASITES, BACTERIA, and could be dangerous to come into contact with.||Upon discussing this issue with management, they said if it were up to them they would have given us a full refund, but that we had to go through booking.com.||The day after we arrived home we called booking.com and they were appalled. They said it was actually up to the hotel. The woman put us on hold and called the hotel. The Moffatt Inn gave her the run-around and then finally agreed to give us only a ¼ of our money back. I would have given the Moffatt Inn a 0/5 rating if I could actually leave a 0.||HOW DARE THEY LET THIS HAPPEN? This is a matter of public safety and it can only mean they DO NOT clean their rooms. DO NOT STAY HERE! If this happened to us, it could...
