The most expensive and worst hotel in Punta Arenas!
We spent 3 nights in this hotel during our 5 weeks holiday in Chili and Antarctica.
There is just one conclusion: it is really really bad !!! Don't book this hotel and please take a local hostal for half the price and you will get a perfect service with a smile.
Some examples: First night we got a room on the front side of the hotel. There was no airco in the room, whilst they state this on their website, and the temperature in our room was 27 degrees Celsius and increasing.... Opening the window did not help at all, as it automatically closes due to the bad system.
We discussed this with the staff, but there was no cooler room available. In the morning we had a cold shower….. Besides, bad /no WiFi connection in our room.
The above mentioned was the experience of multiple travellers in our group.
Checking in a group of 54 people was also something the hotel was absolutely not prepared for: just 1 to 2 persons helping and also this took up to more than 30+ minutes.
We indicated that we would be back in their hotel, after our Antarctica tour, as part of that tour, and after multiple reminders we finally got the confirmation that we will get a room on the sea side with a proper working arco. We got indeed the sea side room (thanx!), but also in this room the airco was not properly working... again a night in 23 degrees Celsius.
Up to the breakfast buffer. First there was no space available, so waiting till somebody leaves the room….. After a little while a table was available and we were standing in queue for about 30 !!! minutes to choose from the breakfast buffet. No support was given to the just 2 persons working there. Poor them! Waiter James is the hero. Big thanks to him!!! He speaks very well English, nobody else does, and knows what customer service is.
We reserved the swimming pool. No bath robes or slippers in our room. It might be strange, but for US$ 200+ per night, we had expected this……
At the swimming pool they told us, we need to wear a cap, which was mentioned nowhere. So, if we would like to swim, we need to buy 2 caps.... also not included in the room price.
Just for a reference: I travel around the world for our 30 years, so I have some experiences, but I have never experienced such a bad service for such a high price.
Before I forget… they also have a casino…. without staff to play at the tables…..
Support the locals and book at a hostal. We changed to a hostal and that was just...
Read moreI stayed here a total of 3 nights - 2 nights before my Antarctic cruise, and 1 night on the way back.||I really liked this hotel and it exceeded my expectations.||Both rooms I was assigned were fantastic. Spacious, clean, modern, and comfortable. Lovely large bed. On the way back they gave me a massive apartment-sized room - crazy!||The service is top notch once you get to the hotel. Reception and restaurant staff are fabulous.||The hotel is right across the street from Unimarc - a large supermarket and very close to restaurants, souvenir stores, and the main town area and shops.||I want to thank the hotel for being flexible and preparing me a hot meal that was ready in my room when I arrived after midnight. I had a late flight coming in and room service closed at 11.30pm. I arranged for them to cook me a meal and have it ready in my room at 11.30pm. This was a lifesaver!||I very much enjoyed my stay here and wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.||There were a couple of things that could have been improved:|1. It is very hard to get into contact with the hotel before arrival. They only respond to emails half the time. That being said, their concierge staff always responded to my emails and were a big help. Big thanks to Fernando from Concierge and Felipe from Reception who helped me greatly when I didn't get any response from the General Reception team. ||2. The hotel is extremely busy and the lifts took a long time to arrive on some occasions. One of the lifts also broke down on one day and the wait was even longer.||3. Gym opening times - they have a great gym but it closes early. I think on Sunday they close at 9pm. It's terrible. For a hotel like this, they should have the gym freely open till midnight.||Overall I think they did a wonderful job and provided great service on arrival. It was a great...
Read moreAs pre-arranged by Quark Expeditions, I stayed here before and after my fly/cruise to Antarctica. The hotel's location on the waterfront was excellent [5.0] and quiet, and within walking distance to most tourist sights.||The assigned rooms were fair [2.8], but were clean, spacious, and quiet. The bathrooms were very large. The furnishings and linens were very comfortable, but, they were showing their age. Also, despite what staff told me, both of my rooms had no AC; stand-up fans were in both rooms. While the rooms were very warm initially, once I opened the windows and turned on the fans, the rooms got cold. Shower water pressure and temperature were excellent. ||Staff service was generally very good [4.5] throughout the hotel. However, they were overwhelmed at times. Some English was spoken by staff members, which is always very much appreciated! And, everyone was very friendly and approachable. ||The breakfast buffet was good [4.1], with an average array of choices to serve various tastes. The food, including outside of breakfast, was generally good. Service was attentive. ||The gym facility was excellent [5.0]. It was one of the most comprehensive hotel gyms I've ever come across on my...
