I have been to this hotel twice now, in Jan 2023 and Jan 2025. I have also stayed at the neighbouring Hotel Alexandra and at Hyatt Grand Centric in North Point. Both times I have been pleased with Harbour Grand HK. This is a 5-star hotel, probably due to its relatively large room size by today’s standard and its facilities.

The hotel is about 5-min walk from Fortress Hill MTR station (Exit A, Oil Street). Simply walk down the length of Oil Street and the hotel will be at the end. The path is however unsheltered from rain. For eastbound buses, the closest bus stop is ‘7 Seas Shopping Centre’ and westbound ‘Kings Road outside Fortress Hill station’, where the McDonald’s is. These buses depart from King’s Road, the main road on HK Island and is only a few streets from the hotel, where the MTR station also is on.

Staff have always been pleasant. This includes the doorman, the Reservations Manager who took note of my room preferences and acknowledged my online booking, the check-in and check-out staff who always processed without any trouble, and the housekeeping staff who always tidied up my room daily, even if I left the room at 3pm. Nothing was moved unnecessarily, whereas things that were moved out of place were replaced. Disposables were always replenished including coffee/tea and slippers. Never ran out of toilet paper. They never disturbed me by ringing the doorbell to rush through housekeeping if I had the ‘Do Not Disturb’ sign on. Due to HK environmental law, drinking/bottles of water and toiletries are no longer provided.

All rooms have at least a partial sea view (see photos). Room is relatively bigger by today’s standards and certainly much more so compared to adjacent Hotel Alexandra. It even has both a clean bathtub and a standing (ceiling/rain) shower. The hotel is evidently on the older side: the taps remain cold/hot water separated (rather than mixer tap), the colour scheme is dated, the TV and telephone are bulky, and one wallpaper starting to fall off. However, everything was generally clean. Soundproofing is good, and I never had too much trouble with adjacent room or corridor noise. The curtains also made the room dark enough.

The bed was of reasonable size – I am 6 foot (183 cm) and my feet do not reach the end of the bed (but close). It would sleep 2-3 people. It does not jiggle noisily and has a full bed base. Pillows are standard. There is a large platform beside the TV to put your suitcase, rather than the flimsy suitcase foldable rack other hotels provide. There was a glass desk and two chairs.

The corridors are carpeted. Lifts are segregated into serving different sets of floors, with at least 10 lifts I saw. Never waited too long for one.

The Harbour Grand HK cafe staff are professional and the buffet reasonable. There is seafood in certain buffets. The 188° cafe on the top floor offers great views as expected. Food is also reasonable. I have no particular comment about these.

I visited the gym during my stay in Jan 2023 and it was satisfactory. From memory there was one squat rack (or was it a Smith machine?), a cable machine, an adjustable bench, several dumbbells, and several treadmills. There would have been a few other pieces of equipment that I have forgotten about. I did not use the swimming pool as it is always closed in winter, but there is one.

Harbour Grand HK has been pleasant and reasonable in room rate. I will return. One area for improvement: on the last day of my stay, I wanted to extend my stay with Harbour Grand HK for one more week due to change in flight schedule. However, the front desk staff told me to book online, and there was no special avenue or room rate for stay extension. Because of this, I had to relocate to Hotel Alexandra for the second...

We have stayed at hotels all over the world and this has been the first hotel we have been to where someone has proactively given us information and suggestions of what to do in the area on check in. Maria the guest relations officer was fantastic. We had some idea of what we wanted to see and do but Maria approached us with a pre-prepared/ printed itinerary of suggestions. The detail Was excellent right down to the best bus/ metro to take. She also told us about the bus that leaves from right near the hotel directly to the airport which we had no idea about and decided to use as it only cost £4.20ish and saved us having to lug our suitcases across the metro with changes. It was also a very good way to see the city. Thank you Maria you really are an asset to the hotel.

The hotel itself was nice. It was a great location with really good transportation links. Places to eat and shops all within 5 min walking range.

The room was a little rough around the edges in terms of it was starting to look a bit tired but otherwise was very nice. We had a premier room on the 22nd floor overlooking a bit of the Victoria Harbour. Unusual set up with the bathroom set in a glass box viewable to the rest of the room but it had an electric blind for privacy. The bed was a super king with really comfortable pillow selection. Great nights sleep every night. It’s a shame a hotel of this calibre couldn’t provide water in the room though. They stated they had to withdraw it due to the new Hong Kong law about the use of single use plastics however rather than withdraw it other hotels simply provide water in glass bottles and provide other eco friendly alternatives.

Housekeeping services were very efficient and extensive but they can come early so ensure you use the do not disturb light in you want a lay in.

Although cold the pool at the hotel was a good size and othered some nice views. In the changing rooms there was also a steam room and sauna to use. Also worth noting was the Sky deck at the hotel accessible to guests which again afforded some amazing views across the whole of Hong Kong.

Our flight wasn’t until late in the evening but on day of check out we were once again looked after by Maria and the team who not only looked after our luggage for the day; they also allowed us to use the pool/ showers to freshen up after a last day of sightseeing.

In summary it was a great city hotel with friendly welcoming staff, excellent facilities in a...

We had a fantastic stay at Harbour Grand Hong Kong during Valentine’s weekend. From the moment we reached out before our visit, their team was highly responsive, providing helpful suggestions and details to enhance our stay.

The staff was consistently warm, welcoming, and receptive, making our experience even better. The hotel was impressively clean at all times, yet we never once noticed the staff actively cleaning, which speaks to their efficiency and attention to detail.

Room & Amenities

The room was small but still larger than what you’d typically find in New York City. The shower was hot, and the deep tub was spacious enough for two, making it a great feature for relaxation. The bed was comfortable, and the option to request different types of pillows was a nice touch. However, of the 12 pillow options available, three of our choices were out of stock, so if you’re particular about pillows, I’d recommend calling or emailing ahead (pic attached with the list).

I do wish the fridge was bigger, especially with the must-visit fruit stand nearby—perfect for grabbing fresh fruit for an early morning or late-night snack.

Location & Dining

The location is excellent—within walking distance to Pret for coffee, a mom-and-pop flower shop, small street vendors, and fantastic restaurants. It’s also conveniently close to the East Coast Boardwalk and just five minutes from the Fortress Hill MTR stop, making it easy to explore the city.

While the hotel has its own restaurants, after trying the buffet breakfast, we felt it wasn’t worth the price. With so many great restaurants nearby at more reasonable prices, we opted to dine elsewhere rather than risk disappointment with other in-house options.

Facilities & Other Notes

The views from the rooftop are stunning—when access is open. Unfortunately, the pool and saunas were closed for maintenance, which was disappointing, but the 24-hour gym is well-equipped and a great amenity.

One thing to note is the new local regulations, which require purchasing bottled water and some toiletries rather than having them freely provided.

Final Thoughts

Overall, Harbour Grand Hong Kong is a great place to stay, offering excellent service, a prime location, and impressive cleanliness. If you’re looking for a hotel that’s close to the city but in a quieter area with great views of Kowloon Bay, I highly recommend it. We’d love to return—hopefully next time with full access to...
