Mr. Wong has been super nice and welcoming each time we’ve come to visit, and is truly one of the must visit places in Hong Kong. Infamous among exchange students and expats in Hong Kong.
The food is average, and you should be able to handle staff and others smoking nearby, as well as semi-good hygiene, but the food and beer are plentiful, and Mr. Wong will always greet everyone with a smile. Mr. Wong is very interested in internationals visiting Hong Kong, and if he has time then he might come to have a chat with you.
When you arrive, if you look like a foreigner, staff will automatically assume you want the all-you-can-eat menu, otherwise you might have to ask for the “Student Menu”, which includes all the food and beer you can consume for cheap (at the time of visiting for 100 HKD). If you visit during the daytime, the normal menu is available.
There are only a few seats and tables inside the restaurant itself (which close early), but in the back there are extra tables and chairs for large groups and for staying till late.
Preferably pay with cash, but it is possible to pay with card and other e-payment options if you ask the staff.
I can recommend reading the interview by The Beat Asia if you’re interested in knowing more about Mr. Wong and the history of this restaurant, and how he can make a living given how...
Read morePros: The number one place to predrink for exchange students, you won't see local students here. For 80HKD (used to be 60, but it's still cheap) you have an all you can eat experience and unlimited beer/wine (ask to get wine or coke though). If you're waiting in the line, Mr Wong already gives you beers so the wait doesn't seem so long :-) Mr Wong can be fun to mess around with, he has a crazy laugh... If you're an American, tell him you like Trump and he'll give you a high five or something. There's a Trump sticker in the middle of the place hahah, he loves that guy. For such a shady place, the toilets are actually neat.
Cons: The food isn't amazing and you don't really order, there's about 5 dishes Mr. Wong brings. One of them is vegan (peanuts and broccoli). Expect it to be very crowded and not to have any personal space. Some people had cockroaches falling down on them. Mr Wong himself once smacked me with a pen on my forehead, I'm still doubting whether to categorize that as charming or obnoxious. :D He is more of a talker tham a listener. And everyone kind of knows this place is a cover up for some mafia business, even though we're not...
Read moreThis is by far has to be the best asian food I've ever had. They have an amazing selection of different cuisines, and the diversity in the food whether it be through flavor or culture provides a great experience. The all you can eat CockNBall works in a very convenient yet organized way, which greatly compliments the cozy and casual atmosphere of the interior. Unlike most Asian and Chinese restaurants, such as chains and your cheap neighborhood buffet, each dish has its own beautifully crafted unique flavor and textures. Nothing tastes bland or similar to eachother in any way, and it's all cooked to perfection. The staff are incredibly kind, giving my friends and I great service. They were all extremely polite and tended to our requests quickly and politely without any trouble. I recently brought my friend, who actually grew up in China, to this restaurant and he was immediately filled with warm, gooey nostalgia. He mentioned that this food reminded him very much of his childhood, and no other restaurant could replicate it so well. In conclusion, if you are in this general area, you NEED to try the CockN'Ball all...
