My stay at Tribe in Medellin (4 days in total) has been one of the most disappointing experiences I’ve had at any of the hotel around the world that I’ve stayed. I’ll start by saying that the staff is very friendly, and perhaps their attitude and disposition is the best part of this hotel. Having said that, a positive disposition without any follow through is just lip service.
To start, the safe in my room was locked, and when I alerted the staff about this, immediately I was told that someone would be up to reset the safe for me…no one ever showed up. I went down at least 4 hours later, and it was clear they had forgotten.
When I asked for fresh bath mat, it took the hotel staff upwards of 5 hours to bring it to me. The second time I had to ask for fresh towels, they simply were never delivered.
Despite the appealing design you see in the photos, the reality is that the design did not take the customer’s experience into account. For example, the bathroom sinks are not actually in the bathroom, they are in the room, less than 2 feet from the bed. That means that any water that splashes out of the shallow sink when you brush your teeth or wash your face at night, inevitably ends up on the floor at the base of your bed, or on your actual bed sheets. That is how small the rooms are and how close the sink is to your bed. Hence the need to have your towels changed daily as they end up wet. The bathrooms are also a big problem. When you shower, there is no barrier stopping the water from leaking out into the rest of the room. I have had to cover the bathroom floor with towels to prevent the water from seeping into the bedroom and flooding the entire room. All your towels end up wet, again another reason why your towels need to be changed at least daily. When I asked to have my towels changed, it took upwards of 5 hours to get them replaced and in one case it took an entire business day, meaning that my room floor remained wet for an entire day.
At nearly 100 USD a day, a premium price in Medellin, this is unacceptable. For this price, you are better off staying at a nearby airbnb what will not only give you more space, a laundry machine, and very likely 2 separate bedrooms. The rooms here at Tribe, are so small I can’t even walk between the bed and wall. I was staying at an Airbnb 1 block away, with all the amenities I mentioned above for less than what I paid here a night. I extended my trip and unfortunately my airbnb was not available for the additional days and I opted to stay at this hotel. That turned out to be a terrible decision.
There was also a night that I was asked to step out of the elevator by the hotel staff, in front of other guests, to verify my room, despite having my room key. This was so humiliating, the elevator was stopped for me to get out, while other guests were allowed to stay. This happened seconds after I had been chatting with the receptionist.
I really tried to like my stay here because the staff is so friendly and likable, but time and time again, I was left dissapointed. Not once did I feel like my experience in the hotel as a customer paying a premium price was ever thought about. Because of this, I just don’t recommend this hotel. The value for the price per night is simply not worth it. You are better off staying at an Airbnb, you will pay less for a bigger space, more amenities, and you most likely will not be taken off an elevator as if thought you are a criminal, and your room will most certainly will not be flooded every time your shower, only to have to wait an entire day to get new towels. There are plenty of other hotels in the area at half the price as well. Don’t be swayed by the pretty pictures, they are smoke and mirrors hiding a hotel that simply does not deliver on...
Read moreUpon arrival, we were warmly checked in by a young, attentive gentleman who upgraded our room using our Gold status. The room, as advertised, was a bit small but well-constructed with a comfortable bed. However, the shower area was cramped and awkwardly designed, lacking space near the sink for personal items. The towels were thin, reminiscent of those at an Ibis hotel. We were assigned a Tribe Extra room at the end of the sixth floor, but the kitchen smell was quite noticeable in the corridor, which was unpleasant upon returning to our room. Inside, the soundproofing was inadequate, but since we were often tired after our days, it didn’t hinder our sleep. The smart TV was modern and large, one of the room’s best features.
The hotel has limited common areas, with only the ground floor open to the street, which is noisy and primarily used for breakfast service. Although breakfast was included in our rate and generally satisfactory, the coffee was disappointing, especially for Colombia. Some staff members, particularly the younger ones, seemed to have an attitude, trying to maintain a cool vibe that we found unprofessional and not up to four-star standards.
Overall, the hotel is a good option if you don’t mind a small room and minimal amenities. The service wasn’t exceptional, and the location is ideal, but nearby hotels offer a more luxurious experience. I would rate this place more like a...
Read moreI recently stayed at Tribe Medellín, located in El Poblado, a central and convenient area of the city. If you're driving, there's a parking garage right in front, which was a huge plus for us.
Check-in was smooth, and they offered early check-in for 100,000 pesos. However, the original room we booked was very small and, in my opinion, not worth the price. We went back to the lobby, where the customer service was excellent. They allowed us to view an upgraded room before deciding, and for another 100,000 pesos, the upgrade was definitely worth it.
The lobby bar serves great drinks, but one thing that surprised us was that we only found out about the terrace restaurant when we were leaving. No one mentioned it at check-in or during our stay, which was disappointing. Better communication about hotel amenities would improve the experience.
The room itself was clean and modern, with an open-concept design, fresh towels, warm water, a mini refrigerator, plenty of outlets, and a smart TV with a good selection of streaming options.
Overall, we were happy with our stay, but the hotel could improve by training staff to better inform guests about available services. Small details like this would make the experience even better!
Would definitely recommend Tribe Medellín, just be sure to ask about...
