I want to start off by saying we stayed here 2 years ago and enjoyed it so much that we decided to go back to Monteverde for our honeymoon to stay at this hotel again. Unfortunately, our experience this time was absolutely horrible. We arrived at the hotel and told the owner our names for our reservation that had been booked through our travel advisor. Instantly, she became hostile and agitated saying we did not have a reservation. My husband and our travel advisor both speak Spanish fluently and both remained calm and understanding as she called our travel advisor. Instead of working with us and our travel advisor to sort out the confusion, she started to raise her voice and yell at our travel advisor and at us. The room had been charged on our travel advisors credit card, but the owner called her a liar and refused to listen to anything she was saying. Our travel advisor then offered to pay with her credit card for a second time, the owner then proceeded to say this is not how she does business and did not want to accept a credit card over the phone. I want to point out that we booked our reservation two years ago using the exact same method with the same travel advisor, but she was adamant she did not run her business this way. By this time, 45 minutes had passed. We said we would just give her our credit card directly to get this sorted out but she refused, saying she did not want us at her hotel and that we could not be trusted. At this point we realized she thought we were trying to scam her. She then ripped the map of the city directly out of our hands and told us to leave her hotel. She kicked us out in the rain with all of our luggage with no cellphone service or even a map of the city on our honeymoon. We were absolutely appalled at how we were treated and have never experienced this through anyone in the hospitality industry. I would highly recommend avoiding this hotel. This was an unfortunate way to kick off our honeymoon as we were really looking forward to staying here. Luckily, we had an amazing travel advisor who got us a hotel down the...
Read moreThis is not my first time to stay here, so I knew to call ahead and let them know we had a large group coming to visit Monteverde. Like always they told us about the best places for us to go around town and for our adventures. Nidia, the wife, owner, the receptionist, the Grandmother, took out a map of Costa Rica and gave us a great insight into the rest of our travels that really help us to avoid some of the bad areas and maneuver the roads easier. Her husband, Dan the man, helped us in so many ways.. He also has a farm that he took our group to visit one day. They cooked us a wonderful meal, had horses and an atv to drive. It was the most peaceful experience of my trip. They now have cabin built there that I am going to try to rent from them on a future solo trip. It is the perfect set up for a couple people to do yoga and really get in touch with nature. ||||The ladies back at the bed and breakfast that cooked for us and cleaned our rooms were amazing!! Elizabeth has been working for Dan and Nidia for 16 years and is great at her job.. They cooked us pancakes, bacon and eggs. Always the best fresh fruit. But the coffee.. They grow it and it’s in my opinion the best cup I drink in CostaRica and that’s saying a lot because there is great coffee everywhere, but this team has it down the best that I’ve seen of getting it from a plant to my tastebuds.. ||||If you are coming anywhere near here... Stay Here!! You won’t be disappointed.. Let them know the things you’re interested in and they will help you have a...
Read moreMy husband and I stayed here for 3 days and it was wonderful! The owners are super friendly and have wonderful suggestions for the area and Costa Rica. The breakfasts are delicious and the coffee is absolutely amazing. The owners actually grow the coffee they serve and it was one of the best coffees we had during our 3 month trip in central america. The owners made us feel at home and the cook is super sweet. The best part about this hotel is its location. While it may be a little outside the main part of town, it actually means it is closer to the bosque. The backyard of this hotel is literally a jungle. And you get to feed monkeys and these cute possum looking things bananas. How cool is that?! It is like you are staying in the jungle! We went to the Santa elena national park and honestly, the was more wildlife and fauna at this hotel. This hotel is covered with various flowers, trees, and plants -- it's gorgeous! And there are always monkeys, which are adorable. And where else can you feed monkeys in the nature while not on an expensive tour?! If you want to see wildlife, just stay here and eat breakfast and the wildlife will be right outside...
