Zagreb was our last stop so we decided to treat ourselves to a 4-star hotel experience. This wasn't the case. First off, our room was dirty and dusty. Our rain shower didn't work. We told reception twice. She even laughed at us. She said she would get the manager to look into it on our third day. We went the next morning to ensure that reception had not forgotten about our broken shower. Day receptionist had no idea of what we were talking about. We couldn't shower properly. I would say 2-star would be a better assessment.
The towels and the bedsheets were ripped. The furniture was broken. There are no basic amenities either. There was no kettle or iron for your clothes. Heck! There was nowhere even to hang a hand towel. The shower had black stains on the floor. It was also clear the room wasn't being cleaned properly either. The bathroom was never washed while we were there. The breakfast was abysmal. While the choice was good, the food was cold. We're talking about cold bacon and omelettes as there were no burners. The coffee machine made everything taste horrible. You couldn't even get potted coffee as they relied on the machine. No sliced bread there either even though there was a toaster.
We also paid for a balcony with a view. There's no view. There's literally an apartment block facing you and we had an old woman continually looking at us for the entirety of the stay. We should also mention that the balcony doors don't lock. They were broken. We mentioned this and they said none of them lock. Anyone could have jumped over our balcony by going over the banisters as they were large. You can also see people in the terrace next to you so there's somewhat limited privacy. We weren't happy about the terrace doors not locking though. There are plenty of ways of securing someone's terrace without getting locked out which they did not provide.
Finally, we decided to leave our luggage with reception since our flight was late. We noticed that the luggage was left unattended and not locked. Essentially anyone could walk up and take our bags. We felt very uneasy about this and went back after an hour. The receptionist didn't even acknowledge us or notice us taking our luggage. We could have taken anyone.
Overall, once and never again. We paid a lot of money. We were never even asked if we enjoyed our stay or if everything was to our satisfaction. I rarely write reviews but essentially this hotel ruined...
Read moreHello, During my stay at Academia Hotel in Zagreb I had a unpleasant experience. During our stay the air conditioner wasnt working at all and it was extremely hot so we were forced to keep our hotel door wide open! And we tried calling the reception couple of times no one answered But, The worst part when we checked out at 12:30pm “ yes we were late by half an hour” The guy on the reception called “Neno” Raised his voice in front of a customer by saying “ You Are Late!” Which completely embarrassed us and then he starting to speak With an very bad attitude! And when we told him about the air conditioning he said u never called
We told him are accusing us of laying He replied “I Don’t Know!”
Worst experience ever. Date of our stay was 5/6/2019 . . I also tried to send an email to the management to find a solution for this guy with an attitude And he replied with very rude email! . . The following is his reply
“Hi from Nino at the front desk, not Neno.
As whole of the hotel is under camera surveilence and the telephone calls are tracked, everything is recorded and therefore there is a recording of you coming out of the room at least one hour (and if I recall well, even more than one hour (we can send you a precise time)) after the check out time as well (not 12:30 as you are claiming). The housekeeping knocked at your door a few times in the meantime too to inform you to leave the room (there is a recording of that as well). Usually, we charge late check out 30€, and you have been charged none (nothing), nor have we sent the security to inform you to leave the room. There is a recording of my behaviour as well, and be sure it will be examined, and even if I did respond „in a bad attitude“, as you say, it was because there was an incoming check in in the same room, and the housekeeping needed to clean it after your late check out. If I said „I don't know“, I meant I wasn't sure if you or someone else called, as there is more than 50 rooms in total within the hotel.

Read moreWe chose the Hotel Academia because of its central location, and in this respect it really delivers what it promises: Zagreb is easy to explore from here, and many sights are within walking distance. Unfortunately, almost everything else about our stay was disappointing.||From the very first moment, the hotel seems strangely improvised, as if someone had decided to convert unused areas of a shopping center into a hotel. The corridors leading to the guest rooms are bleak and look like service or maintenance corridors – not what you would expect from a supposed four-star hotel.||The hotel signs a wellness and fitness area (see pictures) and has signs pointing to a bar, but neither actually exists. The path simply ends at a door marked “Staff only.” This gave us the impression that parts of the hotel were unfinished or abandoned.||Our room was clean, but that's the best I can say about it. The decor is boring and outdated, with no atmosphere or coziness whatsoever. There was a minibar with fair prices, but no coffee machine or kettle—something we would expect in a hotel that calls itself a four-star hotel. The soundproofing was poor; we could clearly hear noises from the hallway and the street. In addition, the air conditioning and ventilation in the bathroom were very loud.||The breakfast is just okay. However, the so-called juice from the machine is undrinkable, and the breakfast room is extremely loud, echoey, and feels more like a cafeteria than a hotel restaurant. The service is unenthusiastic.||To be honest, we don't understand how this hotel got four stars. Realistically, it's three at most. For us, it was definitely not worth the price—and even if it were cheaper, we would not...
