I visited Pod Zidom Rooms at the end of September. It's a lot to share, good and not so good. It's a room so the besides my room setup and sharing codes and walking me to my room I did not recieve any services. So I rated service average.
Good.
Marko was the best host!! Friendly, helpful, and offered to ordered me a taxi to get to the room. He was was welcoming and helped me get settled in and was always a text away
Location!!!! I picked this because of the location near city center, grocery store and walking to many tourists attractions, museums and restaurants. Uber were cheap because of my centralized location. It was so peaceful and quiet. Two restaurants are on the main level (see my review on restaurants too which you might want to pass on)
Room was beautiful with free pocket Wifi,Netfix, Amazon Prime and YouTube with a electric kettle and mini fridge. The room came with a free coke, beer and water to welcome you to Croatia. (See my photos)
The room is one the first floor so a quick walk up 8 stairs or you can use the elevator. Pass code entry made me feel safe comingat 2am but i do have a negative i reference under no good. So someone with mobility issues can easily get to your room.
Not so good:
Entry is not a light or motion sensors. Many guest had to use their phone flashlight to see the stairs. Every dangerous for older people or myself walking in With 3inch heels. I was very concerned with falling and not seeing who's in the building or hall to my room was a little scary.
The room was not clean (not the carpet) but every surface was dusty or dirty and the Keurig coffee maker and even the kettle was not clean (see the photos). With flu season I was concerned so I cleaned with the entire travel pack of disinfect wipes (20 mins), yep the bathroom too. I contracted Marko and shared my photos so I'm hopefully this will change going forward.
Remember you are booking a room and that's it. This is not a B&B or a hotel, so you miss some of the benefits of having someone recommend tours, restaurants, tips to get around the city, or helping with directions at any time. You are on your own without anyone to each out to at 2 am with plumbing issues or door entry issues. Marko was the best host, but I felt weird messenger him after 9pm.
Would I stay here as a first trip to Croatia? Yes, I would only stay only if I plan to travel to multiple parts of Croatia and use it as my home base location. Croatia is not a solo travel friendly country I had challenges with booking tours without two people and even restaurants taster required two people to participate in some food or wine tastings.
I would not recommend Pod Zidom for novice traveler need the hotel experience to help with vacation...
Read moreThis is a good private 'room' in a very central location of Zagreb. The room is well insulated from street noise and neighbours. We had a very peaceful stay. The downstairs entrance to Pod Zidom Rooms is a bit on the glum side. You need to find the light switch on the RHS as you enter. Walk up a flight of stairs, another light switch, and you come to the main door leading to your room. The downstairs entry is in between two restaurants.
The room itself is well furnished. Lots of soft furnishings, a good desk and reading chair, cupboards with good hanging space and plenty of coat hangers, and a few drawers. The bed was very comfortable. The TV is of a good size and there's access to Netflix. Internet access was good.
The room has a number of different heating options and was toasty warm. The bathroom heater didn't seem to work which was a pity. The bathroom space is good, a good strong shower with lots of hot water.
The bathroom had missed a good clean when we arrived. The bin was still full and there was plenty of hair on the floor. The rest of the bathroom was very clean. A...
Read moreWonderful place to stay in Zagreb. I was very impressed with everything from the moment I sent an email asking about booking 2 rooms for a night, and the Bistro for dinner. Marko was helpful and friendly, and I felt like we were liaising with someone who cared very much about our experience. The rooms are excellent. Comfortable beds, completely quiet, great facilities including coffee machine and free water bottles, and a perfect location. We were happy to use the nearby public parking which was an easy walk through a nice part of town. It's a pretty city, worth seeing. Dinner at the Bistro was also...
