This restaurants was below my room; after reading the reviews I was excited to experience the Michelin star restaurant. I researched the menus and croatia traditional dishes and wines. My family is from the south (Mississippi and St. Louis) so I've eaten beef cheeks, chicken feet, pig intestines, liver beef & chicken, hog head cheese..etc.so...Croatia food speaks to my foodie heart. I travel 4x a year international and alway focus on experiencing local traditional food in a Michelin star restaurant and/or a local mom and pop restaurants.
Making reservations are required but it's easy. Book on the restaurants website or opentable.com. The restaurant is beautiful inside with an outside terrace. All local wines and Croatia has the best wines.
I shared my background so you know my palate is refined and ready to eat...lol
The house wine was fantastic my waiter helped with wine pairing and he did a great job!! I had two glasses...I would have finished the bottle. I ordered the beef cheeks with romaine gnocchi and for dessert Snenokle (I hope I got the name right). The dessert custard with sheets of sugar to give it a crunch....it wad delicious. The beef cheeks were slow cooked; mmmmm tender and good with a thick sauce..but it was missing one thing...seasoning. I little salt would have taken this dish from average to extraordinary. I shared my thoughts when the waiter asked me if I enjoyed my meal. l It didn't go over well. My meal totaled $76 Euros. I went to SOL tapas na hrvatski and had a fantastic Michelin meal for $40 Euros with wine in a non-Michelin restaurant.
Would I go back?? Yes..Why?? I want to try the ox tail risotto..but I will bring my own salt and pepper packs. My friends asked me should they try the restaurant..I said yes but be prepared to pay more for the experience and...

This restaurant was one of my favorites during our trip to Croatia. Great location, excellent service and attention to detail, and the fresh wildflowers on the table were beautiful! Each dish is also unique and made specifically for the restaurant by a local potter. A special touch.
The pea and garlic soup was delicious and I highly recommend. Beef tartare was absolutely incredible, though the bread pairing was filling so I was sad that we did not finish the rest of the tartare. The white fish, beefsteak and lamb gnocchi were all great but nothing really out of this world. I enjoyed trying the local ingredients (special truffle that Croatia is known for, garlic grown above ground, celery root, green vegetable that tasted like spinach, etc). For dessert, we got the strawberry vanilla mousse with chamomile ice cream. The ice cream was heavy on the cream and light on the ice - which made for an interesting texture. The marinated strawberry was delicious - subtly sour with the perfect kick and sweetness. We also ordered two glasses of white wine - their house Pod Zidom and a dessert wine. We were not a huge fan of the wines in Croatia in general.
Overall excellent meal and I am so happy we tried this on our last night in Zagreb! My only regret is we did not have enough cash to tip our waiter the 20% he deserved - he was phenomenal and had a great fund of knowledge on the source of ingredients. We enjoyed his recommendations and he went above and beyond in accommodating my family’s preferences for sharing! For those coming from USA, though tipping is voluntary, 10-20% is still expected. Thanks for...
Read moreThe service was okay. The waiter seemed in a hurry when introduced the dishes. Slow down buddy, after all, this is a Michelin recommended...so serve like one. How in the world did this restaurant (Pod) get its Michelin recommended? It's time to question the Michelin rating.
Here's the food section - it's nothing but disappointment. The chicken breast was overcooked. The lamb belly was very gamey, so they tried to cover it up with very salty sauce; the carrot that came with the lamb was the best part of the dinner. Risotto with ox tail was the worst risotto we've had. The arborio was overcooked and the cheese was overpowering. Lastly, the sea bass was satisfactory (bit fishy; not the freshest), but nothing impressive. The only thing we were impressed with was the (apple) sauce for the amberjack sashimi, but the fish itself was not so fresh. It's Summer and I should have known better not to order it.
The couvert charge & the bread - it's a joke. We don't mind paying you the couvert charge, but make some effort to earn it. The bread is nowhere close to an artisan bread, and they didn't bother to heat it up to make the crust more appealing.
We went to Theatrium by Filho this morning for lunch. It's not Michelin rated but the service was very attentive and patient. The food was good, it has room for improvement especially their veal, but it's far better than this Michelin joke (Pod Zidom). If you are a wine drinker, Theatrium is your choice.
Sorry, no pix for zucchini, amberjack, &...
