We have just returned from a long weekend staying at Villa Filaus in Dubrovnik. It was our first visit to Croatia and we were so impressed with the location. We were met at the airport by the very informative Predo, who the hotel had booked to drive us the 30 minute trip along the coastal road to the villa. We had a late flight but were emailed all of the necessary information from the lovely Anita, who was the hostess at the villa.
The Villa Filaus is a magnificent building with all of the comforts that you require, in fact it was like staying in someone's home. The bed was really comfortable and the room had a large flat screen tv on the wall, which had English channels too. A large walk in shower, writing desk, air conditioning, telephone, hair dryer, plenty of wardrobe space with a built in safe, bath robes and slippers, tea & coffee making facilities and a balcony. The Wi-Fi was also very good and there is an outdoor swimming pool.
If you stay at Villa Filaus you also have use of all of the amenities and services of the five star Hotel More, which is a 10 minute walk along the scenic promenade along Lapad Bay. Here you will find the amazing Cave Bar and sun deck. The Cave Bar is a unique experience, an underground cave which has been turned into a beautiful bar with soft lighting and a feature glass walkway over a well. The area where the hotel is located is known as Sunset Beach and you will see the most gorgeous sunsets over the calm Adriatic Sea, whilst sipping a cocktail from the comfy chairs and sofas that line the decking.
Our hosts Nika at the hotel and Anita at the Villa Filaus were so accommodating and nothing was too much effort for them. They told us the best locations to visit whilst we were in Dubrovnik and arranged our return taxi home. Breakfast if you are staying at the Villa Filaus is directly across the road at the Rhea Silvia restaurant, which served us a nice continental breakfast with juices and tea and coffee. If you want something to eat whilst waiting for the sunset at the Hotel More, try the burgers...they are absolutely delicious.
Dubrovnik Old Town is a must to visit if you are in Dubrovnik, pay the extra and take the City Walls tour, which gives you unparalleled views of this spectacular location. We also took a boat trip around Lokrum Island and a cable car trip up the hillside where you will see the entire Old Town nestling in the bay.
EasyJet flights from London Luton Airport were just over two hours and the bus services from the Lapad area to the Old Town take about 15 minutes and are very good value. Dining out was also excellent value and the pedestrian area along the promenade has lots of restaurants.
We would highly recommend both the Hotel More and the Villa Filaus and would love to return...
Read moreLiked:- My stay at the Villa was exceptional. Anita is the name of the lady that runs the Villa, and she is absolutely lovely. There is also one housekeeper that looks after the rooms in the Villa, who is also very sweet. I stayed in one of the small apartment/studios in the Villa (I was on the very top floor) and it was so clean and comfortable inside. Overall, my stay felt like a wonderful home away from home, which was especially important as I was traveling solo. The Villa is in a perfect location with restaurants all around, close to a beach and beautiful for walking along the ocean-front. The Villa is also super close to the bus stop which takes you direct to the Old Town. If you like walking, then walking to the Old Town is also easy to do - I did it, and it only took 30 mins (it was about 5 kilomoters walking). The best part about the Villa is that it is affiliated with the very beautiful "More Hotel" just down the road, which is an amazing benefit. I visted Hotel More for dinner one night, and it is absolutely gorgeous with an amazing beach, bar, and restaurant facilities.
Disliked:- The breakfast was probably the only thing that could have been improved. The breakfast was included with the stay so I did take advantage of it every day, and although it was not bad food.. it was very average. Other than this, I was very happy - and no complaints with the accomodation itself. The Villa was beautiful, I felt very safe and well looked after. I would be happy to return and stay again, or recommend others to...
Read moreAmazing, what can I say about this beautiful villa, absolutely perfect situated away from the crowds but conveniently situated to get anywhere by bus or taxi or within walking distance along the stunning harbour. Our room was beautiful, we stayed in the superior double room with a balcony it was very spacious with everything luxury, complimentary shampoo and conditioner, mini fridge and tea coffee making facilities, dressing gowns and slippers, can't want for anything more. We were welcomed by lovely Nika, who checked us in and gave us lots of advice and recommendations places to eat and sightseeing, trips etc which was very handy to know. It is definately worth arranging transport with Nika to be collected from the airport, I would not hesitate to stay here if you are wanting a lovely base near to Dubrovnik Already planning our next trip here. Thank you for making our stay a memorable one.
