Shizuku -Japanese cuisine- — Restaurant in Dubrovnik

I am not one to ever leave a bad review for a place, but this experience was so bad it nearly ruined our day. It is not worth your time or money - go anywhere else.

This place had pretty good reviews online so we decided to go for a late lunch. Got there around 2:30, it was pretty empty, which was to be expected for that time of day.

We sat down outside and a waiter came to take our drink order. We ordered two cocktails which took about 15 minutes, which was frustrating considering the lack of people in the restaurant but we looked past it. It took them another 5-10 minutes to come take our food order. We ordered 2 sushi rolls and an order of spring rolls. Nothing fancy, just simple. Another 30 minutes go by and we started to wonder where our food might be. I hate making a fuss, but it did get to the point where my partner felt compelled to ask if it would be much longer. The waiter said it would just be 1 more minute. Another 5 minutes go by and the waiter came not with food, but instead to confirm our order, which he had gotten wrong. We corrected him and he apologized and said it would be out soon. They had clearly forgotten/not started our order and another 20 minutes go by. Several tables of people who had sat down and ordered after us were getting their food, also sushi rolls.

When our food finally came out my order was completely wrong and I was given a rice and chicken dish and egg rolls. At this point I was quite frustrated. They had double checked our order, and after making us wait for over an hour for 2 sushi rolls and spring rolls, still got it wrong. I told the waiter this was not what I ordered and that at that point I didn’t want the roll either, I just wanted to pay for our drinks and go. He insisted that it would just be 2 minutes to fix and my order would be out soon. So 5 minutes later he brought me my order. So clearly they were more than capable of making a roll in a few minutes but either forgot/didn’t care. We assumed they would comp some, if not all, of our meal given they had clearly messed up several times. They did not. They said they were just busy and that’s why it took so long to come out. However:

1. it was nearly empty
2. tables that sat down after us (with bigger parties and orders) got their food before us
3. the waiter insisted my order would only take 2 minutes to make - and it did only take a few minutes

I just wish they would have been communicative with us and if they were busy or under staffed let us know that food would be 30+ minutes. Or when they clearly forgot to put in our order told us so we could’ve decided whether we wanted to continue to wait or go. I understand mistakes happen, places can be overrun, but we were incredibly patient, there was very little apology or communication and we just felt taken advantage of.

The worst part, which was out of their control, but I think relevant, is across the street there was a very loud and active construction sight, which we knew when we sat down but we assumed we’d be there 30-40 minutes for lunch and be on our way so happy to look past it. But instead we sat essentially in a construction zone, looking at parking lots with a loud truck pouring concrete for nearly two hours while we waited for incredibly mediocre food and service. It was incredibly frustrating and upsetting as we were only in Dubrovnik for the weekend, and we wasted so much time at this awful restaurant, waiting for sht food, with sht service in an active construction zone rather than seeing more of the beautiful city.

If you value your time or your money, do not waste it here. Go to another restaurant, cafe or supermarket. This place has nothing to offer besides the chance to possibly ruin your trip and/or...

Really amazing sushi. Fresh, delicious. ALMOST a flawless experience.

We turned up at 1830 without a reservation. They were completely booked, however the host found us a spot! Amazing service.

In the interest of saving time we ordered everything at once: the chicken gyoza was fried wonderfully and the spring rolls had a great chilli sauce. Our spicy tuna roll was uniquely made, the salmon maki was great. Both dishes were really fresh and tasted good.

I ordered a Sapporo beer and my wife got a Sex on the Long Beach.

This is where the issue arose.

When my wife looked into her drink, there was something in her glass. She took it out with her straw to discover some sort of mold floating around. Initially we thought this could have come from a dirty glass, however upon closer inspection we found that the ice cubes were actually full of mold. Leading us to believe that the entire ice cooler is contaminated and moldy.

We were revolted.

We told the waiter who apologized. He asked if she wanted another drink, but seeing how the problem came from the ice she declined.

We asked for the cheque. The drink had been removed which was nice, but no mention of our issue and no visit from the manager leads us to believe the problem wasn’t passed along.

In a restaurant that deals with raw seafood, I believe freshness and hygiene are of the utmost importance.

So we can not recommend this...

Definitely an overrated place that didn’t live up to my expectations. The waiter showed up to take our order after quite a long wait, and to our great disappointment, both the starter and the main course arrived at the same time🙄..! We didn’t order one of the dishes at all — in other words, we were served the wrong one. The starter was fine, but the main course was far too salty for my taste — we were very hungry, so we ate it — so much that even two bottles of water weren’t enough to quench our thirst afterwards. Then we waited more then a half an hour for someone to clear our plates. We gave up on dessert, realizing it would probably mean another thirty minutes of waiting. When I mentioned my complaint to the floor manager while finaly find him and asking for the bill, he didn’t even respond — not a single word. Overall, a very disappointing experience, especially considering the restaurant wasn’t busy at all and there seemed to be plenty of staff. I just can’t figure out where they...
