My 2 friends and I have just returned from a 5 night B&B stay at Grand Hotel Park. BA Holidays. We had a terrific time. The staff were absolutely brilliant! They could not do enough to help us and made sure we had a great holiday. They put us in perfect rooms for us on the 5th floor - we had fantastic sea views and lots of space. There was a mini bar fridge and safe.
The breakfast was amazing. There was so much choice. Cooked breakfast included eggs, bacon, sausage beans, cooked vegetables - 4 kinds of eggs - hard boiled, scrambled, omelettes and sunny side up. There was a huge spread of different salads, cold meats, cheeses, bread & rolls, cakes, yogurts and delicious fresh fruits, like pineapple, grapefruit and melon. There were 5 kinds of juices and a great choice of coffees and teas. The service in the restaurant was really good. All the staff we met were charming, warm and friendly. They spoke great English and smiled a lot. I could name so many but - in particular I would like to thank: Natalia, Marin, Ivan, Daria on reception - they were so helpful. In the restaurant, the manager, Park and Ilenka and our housekeeper Julia - they were all so efficient and helpful.
The facilities: there is an indoor and huge sparkling outdoor pool with plenty of sunbeds round the pool and mats for them so they are comfortable. There are clean fresh towels. There is also a steam room, sauna and a spa area with treatments.
Location: The hotel is 2 minutes from the beach. We went 11- 16 Oct 2019 and the weather was glorious this year - 24 degrees and sunny each day. There's a beautiful path around the coast and a Cave Bar at Hotel More about 10 mins walk from the hotel.
Honestly, we have been on many city breaks inc Lisbon, Madrid, Florence etc and they were all nice but this hotel was really good for what we wanted - some late sun and a kind of a short city break. The hotel is in Lapad a resort only 10 mins by bus from Dubrovnik and by the beach. The sunsets were breathtaking each evening.
The hotel has a supermarket very close by and lots of restaurants. You can get the local bus number 6 to Dubrovnik for 12 Kuna each way if you buy tickets in the Tisak kiosk or 15 kuna if you buy them on the bus. The bus stop is turn left at the back of the Tommy supermarket - same side of road as the supermarket. It stops at the bus terminus in Dubrovnik where everyone gets off. The return stop is opposite. Bus is number 6.
We really did enjoy this hotel and the area. We will certainly return. We felt safe the whole time. Remember to save some kunas for the city tax which you pay on check out - about 11.10 kunas per night each so almost 56 Kunas each for 5 nights. It may not be a perfect 4 star but it was really good value. We had Atlas airport transfers too which we booked through BA holidays and they were also efficient. We were delayed by 2 hours on arrival but they were there as promised. Both drivers spoke good English and were professional. All in all a great short break....
Read moreWe stayed for a week here, in July, and we had a nice vacation. In this moment, the hotel consists in two buildings, the main hotel building and a so-called villa, in fact a charming less building, seen from the outside. A second "villa" is under renovation, but it seems that the works will not be finished too soon. The problem is that it is located right next to the pool and does not have a very pleasant view. The same building yard can be seen from the sea-view rooms. Our room was at the 1st floor in the main building. It has a small balcony, about 3x1 m. It was a sea-view room but at from the rooms at 1st floor rooms the view is not very nice. In front of you is the roof of the restaurant, covered with a green carpet, not very clean. From time to time a cat appears, looking for food. The cleaning in the rooms was done daily but a little superficial. In two days they forgot to put toiletries. The air-conditioning worked very well. There is a little safe-box (you have to pay if you want to use it) a TV (almost useless, not many English channels), a little freezer, a kettle. The Wi-Fi worked very well in all the areas of the hotel. The main pool is pretty big (for what you can find at Dubrovnik hotels), 140 to 180 cm deep. The water was clean and warm. There were also enough sunbeds and umbrellas. There are also two new smaller pools, just inaugurated and an indoor pool, pretty big. Again, a big minus: due to renovation works, there is no pool bar. To have a drink you have to go to the only bar in the hotel, at the reception. Hard thing to do in swimsuit, with water dripping on you. Also, the cleanliness in the area is not very good. The tiles are extremely dirty in some areas. I saw the staff cleaning the sunbeds in the evening but I did not see anyone sweeping or washing the tiles. Unfortunately, the hotel doesn’t have a private beach. Though, there is a pebble beach in front of the hotel, at walking distance. You can rent a sunbed or just lay on your own towel. Another downside would be the elevators, only two for the whole hotel. And many times they didn't even work properly, seeming to have a will of their own. Many people were bored waiting for them and used the stairs. The hotel offers two meals a day, the breakfast and the dinner. At the lunch the restaurant is closed, so you are forced to leave the hotel for lunch. The food was good and diverse. You can choose from two types of soups every day (at dinner), many salads, fish, chicken and beef cooked in different ways. All dishes have a label with the English name of the dish. The staff was nice and helpful. All in all,...
Read moreStay at hotel was nice in relation to room , views and food. Reception desk was very nice and hospitable.
We had one negative experience that tainted the whole stay for us. Our room was breakfast not included , we were told at reception that we can still avail of breakfast and pay separately at check out. First day we did this there was no problem.
Second day at breakfast at one point a female restaurant worker openly pointed at our table and indicated at the manager to come down. Naturally, we were very confused and as the manager came to the table many people started looking over at us. The manager spoke to us as if he was catching us doing something wrong. He asked us if we were staying at the hotel and if we were what was our room number. It became clear at that point that the staff had assumed that we weren’t guests at the hotel. We confirmed our hotel number. The manager then went back to the cashier and made a point of coming back down and printing out a receipt for us to sign. I explained calmly to the manager that we were told to pay at the end of our stay and I did not understand why we were made feel as though we were doing something wrong.
We were upset by this incident for a number of reasons. Firstly, why was no one else asked if they were actually guests at the hotel ? The room was full with people but we were singled out ? Secondly, when it was confirmed that we were guests there was no apology from the restaurant staff worker or the restaurant manager.
The whole experience was extremely humiliating and upsetting. We left the restaurant before we had finished eating breakfast as we felt people watching us. We had planned to spend the day in the hotels spa and gym and to get breakfast in the days that followed but decided to not spend anymore time then needed at the hotel as we were made feel very uncomfortable and embarrassed that we had done something wrong when we were paying guests. I don’t know what prejudice or judgement the hotel restaurant staff possess that made them think that we weren’t residents of the hotel and that we weren’t going to pay , but it is not okay to treat people let alone paying customers in this fashion. Would not recommend staying at the hotel for the treatment of restaurant staff that we...
