This hotel has a captive audience as there isn’t too many in this price range, and keep getting guests based on this fact. The photos and description of Hotel Petra are very deceptive.||||There are 2 basic requirements in a hotel room stay. A decent mattress on your bed, and a shower that works. Both of these are non existent at Hotel Petka. The mattresses were lumpy and dirty, even the mattress protector was unclean.||To add to our room’s inadequacies Hotel Petka advertises that they provide a “fridge” in the room, however the air conditioning unit pumped out colder air than what the fridge temperature was. Despite looking for the control knob in the fridge to turn the heat down, it was already on its coldest setting. Staff just shrugged when i talked to them, no offer to have the fridge replaced with one that works. This was one criteria I used when booking this hotel and it is deceptive advertising.||||My husband had to tape the shower head nozzle to the pole so it wouldn’t fall onto the floor as we turned the water on. At one stage it fell to the floor and cut my toe. This hotel has supposedly been done up, but I beg to differ. The shower nozzle was so old it should be replaced, as is the useless wall hair dryer.||||If there was a 3rd wish when booking a hotel, it would be an adequate breakfast. I have attached pictures to verify this. As others have attested to, the breakfast food provided at hotel Petka is not good for your health health. In fact I was sick after having breakfast here, hence I took photos to show that unless you want to feel sick, which I did, do not eat the eggs. Their yoghurt was a warm runny gloop, and the fruit being presented most days was rotten. I’m not sure that the young women working in the breakfast lounge were aware of rotten fruit or if they just don’t care. The coffee was undrinkable and instant coffee would have been a better option.||||Watery juices are also on offer, that appear to have never been put in a fridge. I saw another guest smelling his watermelon, I can only guess it was rotten as well!! Also at breakfast the eating utensils ran out, so i approached a staff member to get some and was spoken rudely to and told “we know...
Read moreRoom: 2nd floor with sea/city view. Outdated style with modern head board and cool wall paper. Very clean. Fresh looking and smelling linen; I have been to a 4 star hotel in Dubrovnik with slightly vinegar smelling towels when I get ‘clean’ ones so this is a bonus here. Bathroom is properly scrubbed down, no ‘invisible’ water spots left in the shower. I have had water marks and hair left in the bath of a 4 star hotel in Dubrovnik upon check in. so, I win for 'Petka' again. Shower gel and hand soap is provided, so all other bathroom products will need to be provided yourself (slippers and robe too). However, the door fixtures are not so secure, the main door’s handle appeared to be loose due, locked fine. The balcony door would open with wind sometimes unfortunately. TV with limited channels but good, mini fridge too which did work. Note: there was a bit of mold on the ceiling above the shower which was gross.
View: great view of the city, people moving about (busy location). Sea view with the chance to sea boats/ships/ferries coming in and out of the city’s port.
Location: excellent! Quite in the centre of the city. Bus stop and port is just opposite the entrance of the Hotel, easy access in, out and around the city. The bus station and taxi station where the ferries dock are only a couple minutes walk from the hotel. Restaurants and supermarkets are in walking reach. Nearby local park with markets running often. 30 minute walk from the old town.
Services: helpful and kind receptionists. Outside of the tourist season the hotel’s 2 restaurants are shut. Nevertheless, the main restaurant remains open for breakfast service outside of the tourist season. Buffet breakfast is standard, nothing luxury, just like eating as you would at home, maybe a bit more and a bit more variety on your plate. in regards to 'breakfast' at the hotel, the staff during the breakfast service were unprofessional, the women kept telling off the asian man that worked along side her multiple mornings during my 9 night stay there.
Feel: you live in the city, you are not in a resort area like the ‘Uvala Lapad’ area in Dubrovnik with other holiday people. You share the city with...
Read morePERFECT WEEKEND BUDGET HOTEL. The hotel was fairly cheap for a weekend at peak season holiday times around the end of July costing around (£113) for two persons, between Thursday Night to Sunday 12pm. But under short notice another friend wanted to come and the hotel was nice enough to accommodate 3 persons with a small charge for the third person in the same room (£35 a night) registered under as breakfast charge. If we wanted to add another bed however it would've cost a lot more extra, so the Hotel was very lenient with this. We then merged the two single beds and slept Horizontal three ways (economical) since it was a group of friends, it's alright and we're not exactly big people. The hotel had decent air con, along with all your standard essentials such as towels, hairdryer, toilet tissues and soaps for the shower. The view from the Hotel was exceptional surrounded by sea and Dubrovniks authentic buildings. The beds were comfortable, lights all accessible, tv signal strong, a mini fridge to store drinks and a full outfit mirror. There was a lot of tourist information booklets near the reception as well as an excursion point in the hotel if you wanted to book activities such as kayaking etc. The wi-fi was at a decent speed and there is a computer in the reception you can use free of charge. Breakfast is really standard, not amazing omelettes or anything just the bare minimum starting from 7am to 10am. The location of the hotel is one of the selling points, it is a 20 - 25 minute walk to Old Town. Also, it is in the heart of the Marina so you're surrounded by boat party cruise ships, along with restaurants, supermarkets and the bars. It is also 20-minute walk away to Dubrovnik's bridge. For improvements I think the hotel should get electronic swipe cards rather than using big fob keys for the room and also get a safe in the room to put passport and money because it was lacking these. In conclusion, for a short stay in a really good location with standard facilities, this...
