Hvar centre dorms — Hotel in Grad Hvar

Stayed here with 2 friends in August 2015. One word to describe it is weird. It's hard to find, and then you arrive and there's no reception or anything. We arrived at mid-day and called out from the hall to see if anyone would greet us. The owners run their reception from their bedroom where one of them was always asleep in the bed even during the day. They kept telling us to come back in an hour because our room wasn't ready so we had to leave our bags there in the hall where they could have been robbed by anyone of the guests or all the strangers that move through the place to use the rooftop terrace. We were shown to our room which was fine and had wifi and aircon but the girls who were in our room said that they had been moved rooms 3 times in their stay. They run a burger place underneath the hostel and offer seating above the hostel on the rooftop. This meant that you had strangers walking up around your room and door throughout the evening and into the nighttime. It was very loud and they played music and people were laughing and shouting throughout the night above you. (hotel guests don't have use of the rooftop terrace, only people who buy burgers from the restaurant). Also, they only had 1 bathroom among all the people staying which was the worst. You had to sit in your towel outside for fear that someone would steal your spot. It was cheap and cheerful and great location but one of the weirdest...

The woman running the hostel was rude and un-welcoming. I was in a tiny room with three bunk beds squashed into it. There was no room on the floor for my luggage so I had to have my bag on the end of my bed. There were only 2 plugs in the room for 6 people so charging my phone was difficult. Guests were checking in at ridiculous hours, for example I had 4 loud, drunk men check into my room whilst I was sleeping at 4am. There is one tiny bathroom for 18 people which meant waiting ages for a shower was inevitable. Very basic living conditions and extremely overpriced. It's in a great location but that's about it. Only 1 bathroom for 18 people. It was overpriced for a basic bed. The rooms were cramped and only 4 lockers for a 6 bed dorm. There are no kitchen facilities. ||||It was clean and safe and the staff were very friendly and helpful. You also get a 10% discount at the cafe downstairs. Location was awesome though and the rooftop is great for hanging out with friends. You can literally walk 2 minutes to any bar and 5mins to the water for swimming.
