Crazy House Hostel was a very clean hostel in a central, residential area of Pula. The Ampitheatre is only about a 5 minute walk away, and the main attractions in the center are easily walkable. The hostel was a bit tough to find at first from the road as I was driving, but once you know where it is, you realize it's right there. There is free public parking outside the property, which is convenient. ||||There a lot of rowdy, drunken youngsters at the hostel, but with a name like Crazy House, what would you expect? However, given that the hostel is situated right next to residential apartments, after 11pm it is expected that you either go out to the town, or keep the noise down. Perhaps a change in the name of the hostel would help people from being misled about the party nature of the hostel. ||||Tomo was a very kind and gracious host, and it was nice hanging out with him on the deck talking after things got a bit quieter. There are a number of stores around the hostel, and places to buy beer, or my personal favorite, rakija. ||||I would recommend this hostel, but don't expect to be able to get too crazy after quiet hours. I would also recommend that the hostel get some better utensils for cooking, as the knives were few, and the ones there were dull and dangerous to try to cook with. The last recommendation would be that were not as strict with leaving right at check-out time, which is 10am. If you want to stay past that time, you have to pay a fee. Otherwise, good hostel, clean rooms, and very...
Read moreThis is a very reasonably priced hostel in an area where reasonably priced options are in short supply in the European summer holiday period.
It's a 10 minute walk to Pula Amphitheatre, and about the same to the main bus station, so it's well located in terms of access to the key spots. The hostel is situated in a residential area which seemed quite quiet.
Upon entering the hostel, there was a whiff of drains and this would be particularly noticeable in the bathrooms. Regarding the bathrooms, they were mostly clean.
The rooms were comfortable and air-conditioned, which was a bonus in the hot summer weather.
When a hostel is titled Crazy or similar, you're possibly turning up with the expectations of people partying or drinking but this wasn't reflective of the pretty quiet atmosphere there - in fact, you're not allowed to bring alcohol on the premises.
The staff were pleasant but a couple of the hostel policies a bit draconian compared to other the majority of others I've stayed at: no alcohol being one example and another would be having to the leave the premises straight after check out time.
If you want somewhere affordable to stay, and the above doesn't bother you, then go for it; I probably would do again if I was on a...
Read moreThe hostel is a 10 minute walk from the city center, 10 minute walk from the clubs at the water front and 35 minutes by bus + foot to the beach. Overall it seemed nice and clean although there were no windows in the bathrooms or toilets so the air in there was not very nice and they give you a blanket with no cover to sleep with, which I wonder if is cleaned in between users. There is no breakfast option, so you have to buy your own food and I found it odd that there was no toaster. One of the girls working there was lovely, the rest of the staff rather gave the impression that they didn't care much about the guests. I was in room one which had a very pleasant temperature though some of the people i talked to who stayed in other rooms complained about the heat. Over all I had a nice experience here but I put that down to socializing with the other guests more than the...
