HISTORIC PLAZA VAROS SPLIT, Split — Hotel in Grad Split

The hotel is very conveniently located for visiting Diocletian's palace and the lovely seafront promenade.|It is an old converted building as are all of the hotels in this area. This might account for the rather musty smell in our room.|It is in a pedestrianised zone which meant using Google maps to find our way from the taxi drop off.|We arrived in the evening and had to call for someone to come to let us in. There is no 24 hour reception.|The power socket and light switches on one side of the bed did not work.|The safety deposit box did not work. We spoke to one of the girls at breakfast who tried changing the batteries. This did not work so she gave us a key. This worked intermittently so we carried our passports, cards and cash with us.|The tv had no connection. The same girl said that she would call someone who would deal with this. We saw her preparing another room at lunchtime and she said that she would call again. It was still not working that evening so we tried calling the number given but there was no answer. I dont recommend this hotel!!! It’s not a hotel, it’s an apartament, however, they chargue you as 4 stars hotel while is a 3 stars and it was very expensive. The check in is at 14pm and we arrive at 16:30pm and the surprise was that one room was dirty without clean and also it smells awful. The recepcionist said sorry but we were waiting 1h and 30 minutes until they clean the room and I requested breakfast for free but they said no, they offer us a discount which is not enough. Perfect location to walk into the main area of split. When we arrived it was pouring with rain and we were taken care of and given a coffee to warm up. The room was lovely and very comfortable bed! The waterfall shower was perfect and if we needed anything we could simply ask. One thing to note, our room wasn't tidied every day (certainly not on sunday) so just be aware if you are thinking this would be the case. Although, it wasnt a problem for us.
