The hotel is right in city center so the location cannot be better. It is very clean and overall quiet (the hotel itself, keep on reading :D ) . This year we got a deluxe room but better save your money. For a bit of extra room and a couch it is not worth the difference. Also, the fantastic view of the city center comes at a cost: the first night (Friday-Saturday) I could not believe how noisy the homeless / drunks of Budejce can be. The entire night we had a screaming concert. So better to think twice if you want a view or a yelling concert. Not even the Police could do much. The screaming stopped for 30 minutes and it resumed with new actors.
Breakfast was below average this year. Not much of a choice, fruits and vegetables were quite old, all egg offerings were tasteless. The parking is kind-of a rip-off. I did not know they have increased the parking to 15 EUR per day. If you travel in the weekend, you are better off with public parking (free) or even during the weekday if you don't mind walking 50-100 meters to park. Also, garage parking costs the same as roof parking (I did not know that) so make sure if you do get parking, ask for a place in the garage (by default they take you to the roof). At least your car stays cool/warm, depending on the season. For 15 EUR a night I was honestly expecting a car wash for...
Read moreIf you are visiting Česke Budejovice during late December, this seems to be the hotel is the most ideal location as Grand Hotel Zvon is right on Premysl Ottokar II Square overlooking the magnificent outdoor winter market, see view from the dining room! We went to the market every evening where there was live music, a Ferris Wheel, ice skating rink, so many food/drink stalls, and local vendors selling cheese, sausages, crafts, and all sorts of presents. There were live owls there yesterday. Five stars for the market, if you are in the area, come for that alone.
Only concerns with this hotel is the noise, as our room overlooked the back street and the noise throughout the day, especially in the morning during deliveries, was considerable. And we had to keep the windows open at times because the room temperature was hard to control, often too warm. The free breakfast was amazing, served 7-10 am in the beautiful dining room. On-site restaurant also very nice, had 2 meals there. We would definitely stay here again, just will book a room in the front of the hotel on a higher floor to minimize the...
Read moreI thoroughly enjoyed my stay here! The hotel was recommended as "quiet" on previous reviews and I found that it genuinely was. I was allocated a room towards the back and there was no street sound whatsoever, so I slept really well.
The front of the hotel abutted onto the main square and so it was absolutely central within the old town. The view of this square - one of the largest in Europe - was absolutely beautiful, particularly as seen from the breakfast room.
The hotel was also very conveniently placed for travelling to a number of other South Bohemian towns, as the railway station was only 15 minutes walk away and I made this trip several times - so all very easy indeed.
The restaurant attached to the hotel was also very convenient, particularly when I was returning late after a train journey. (It is also one of the few places that serves fish).
One of the other critical features was the kindliness of the reception staff. They really did 'go the extra mile' both in helping with phone calls and in giving advice about the area etc ...
Definitely one of...
