Visiting Budweis, we walked through the city and about 2 minutes away from the center we found this amazing restaurant.
We went there for lunch and as we walked in we got one of the last available places to sit.
The service was friendly and very fast especially with the drinks. We were asked about our country because we started to talk english and could talk to the service in english or german.
The food was very good and seemed authentic. The menu was written in three different languages so nealry everybody was able to understand. They had a big selection, too. We visited at October and so we were able to enjoy some unfiltrated Budweiser which was quite amazing even as a bavarian.
The ambience was nice, it looked like one of the traditional beer halls which you can find in some citys with big breweries and it seemed that they had the same traditional attitude as they had places at the bar which seemed like there are just people sitting to drink and maybe have a small lunch or you can take place and eat with your family or friends.
I can fully recommend this restaurant as it has fair prices, good quality, a nice ambience and...
Read moreWe visited this place last week with some colleagues. By entering the restaurant we were impresse by the nice athmosphere. Unfortunately we asked one of the employees / bartenders for a table - only answer we got was: "We are full" - without an adequate welcome and although there were some seats left. So first impression was very bad. When we left the restaurant because of the unpleasent bartender, his boss (maybe the owner?) was coming out and was offering a table to us... At least we were in.
When we asked for the bill after several drinks and a lot of food, the other waiter was not able to split the bill for us - he just ran away after saying: "You will be able to do that on your own"
But: Very nice food in quality and quantity, nice drinks - as well as the prices for all. So at least one star more
Conclusion: Very nice place, but overall impression was bad, thanks to the...
Read moreNo restaurant can live only off its past, none. This one tries. We came on Saturday around 6, pub was half empty, but plenty of reservation notes were on the tables around. We walk in, smiles on our faces, looking forward to the advertized historical experience, pass several waiters, each avoiding any kind of eye contact. We get to the bar - again, as if we were invisible.
I understand this can be a famous and a busy place, but this has never occurred to me, not in Hofbrauerei in Munich, not at U Pinkasů in Prague, not in beerhouses in Brussels or London. So we turned around and went to Solnice, where we were greeted and treated warmly and as guests ahould be.
If you want to visit a pub where the staff doesn't give a damn about guests - choose Masné Krámy. For the rest, don't worry, České Budějovice has many more, nice places to help you quench...
