Horrible experience, probably one of the worst hostels. ||We arrived around noon and there was no one to check in, we had to wait until a random man who was smoking in the street came up and saw us go up from the beginning! (why did he have to wait so long?). We tried to pay the remaining fee and they did not accept card payments, we had to pay in cash in euros at an abusive exchange rate. ||Then, he gave us a room and was constantly coming and going, checking the heater, which never worked. Every night was too cold and the windows did not even have curtains, we asked him to fix it and the heater worked for a few minutes then stopped (when there was no one, I think it was on purpose).||In the beds, there is not even a mattress, it is just a very thin mat and you can feel the wood in the back, the pillow seemed to be stuffed only pieces of fabric. Terrible if you try to rest! I couldn't stop sneezing, it was probably full of dust and the smell from the bedroom was horrible.||Of all the showers, only two worked, and the bathrooms were really dirty and incredibly small, they smelled like pee and they didn't even have toilet paper. There is only one sink for the entire hostel with no soap. When I was taking a shower, a person knocked hard and violently directly on the cubicle, shouting something that I did not understand (probably in Czech), I waited for him to leave and left quickly. There is no security or privacy! No door can be closed, including the main entrance.||The kitchen is a joke, a mini fridge that doesn't work, a couple of plates and a microwave oven.||There seems to be a club and a bar downstairs, random men who spent the day smoking and drinking outside, walking up and down the hostel as if it were their home.||It definitely doesn't feel like a safe and much less friendly place, every second I spent there, I wanted it to move faster. A low price is no justification for dirt and insecurity. I would never recommend (specially woman)...
Read moreWe stayed here for two nights with my friend. the only good things were that the host was really kind and our room and bedsheets were kinda clean. First of all, we were charged double (normal price) because we changed the dates for our stay. 1) So the price was double and not worth it at all. If you’re a woman you shouldn’t stay at this hostel, it’s a matter of hygiene and safety. We didn’t want luxuries of course. 2) There are only 4 showers where there’s no room to leave your stuff, also let’s say you want to throw your pad, you have to use the ONLY ONE bathroom that you can throw your pad inside the trash. 3) Even if the cleaner comes and cleans at 8 am, during the day both of the two bathrooms are dirty and smell like pee. Also the most normal toilet is build in a stair and it’s extra uncomfortable, not user friendly at all. 4) There’s no private key for the rooms so anyone can get inside the room even if they’re not staying in there. 5) No curtains in the bunk beds. (the rooms are of course mixed) 6) You have to pay for everything, even for the key for the main building in case you want to use it after 00:00 am. 7) We were about to lose the bus because we were waiting for the host to come and leave him the key and give us the money for the key we rented back. He never showed at 8am so we left. The location is good but you have to use transportation in order to go to the centre.
I’m suggesting to lower the price, lock the main door and giving a key for free to anyone without charging and try to maintain the place clean during the whole day. I’ve stayed in many hostels for lower price and the basics were at...
Read moreIt seems that many people in this site have never been to an hostel before, I'm 19 from Italy and I cannot understand how so many people can be spoiled enough to complain about this hostel.||I stayed here this year (2021) and the only thing I can complain about is that the kitchen has just a fridge, a microwave and a sink||Very cheap indeed, the hostel fontana has some of the best positions I saw in my trips, I stayed in the city center of prague in 2019 and even though that was a good hostel too, I risked to get scammed too many times. The center is full of tourist traps, such as exchange points which give 17 crowns for every Euro instead of 25 and shops and restaurants who overcharge you with "mandatory tips". ||The position of Hostel Fontana in the meantime is not so distant from the center but it has a really good restaurant and an equally good pub just out the door which charge you the correct prices, there's a minimarket near the restaurant and another near Hradcanska metro station, it's 10 minutes on foot from both the hradcanska and dejvicka metro stations on the A line, with many trams near the stations too.||There's a bank, a KFC, a pharmacy and many small pubs less than 10 minutes on feet too. ||The airport is 30 minutes away, 20 on public trasport (a tram and a bus), while the city center is less than 10 minutes from the stations and u can choose to go by tram or underground||There's a place for bikes, wifi and lockers, you can deposit 100 crowns (4€) to get a lock from the reception, they speak many languages and very good English, you will have no problems with...
