Terrible Experience – Would Never Stay Here Again

I stayed at Honest Karlin in Prague and had a deeply disappointing experience. I booked the ground floor apartment, which looked decent at first glance — clean kitchen, working microwave, dishwasher, washing machine, and a good fridge. But that's about where the positives end.

The apartment layout is weird: you enter into a corridor, then a small living space with a kitchen, and go down a staircase to find the bedroom and bathroom. Half of the bed is literally under the stairs, which is already uncomfortable. Worse, the downstairs area has no proper ventilation and a constant musty, damp smell — especially noticeable under the stairs, near the bed.

We thought it might get better with some fresh air and the air purifier provided — but it didn’t help at all. The smell persisted throughout the stay. On top of that, housekeeping never showed up, not once, even after I directly contacted room service.

I asked on the third day for someone to clean, change the sheets, and check the bad smell. They said they’d send housekeeping. An hour passed — nothing. I called again and was told they were busy but someone would come in 10-15 minutes. I went out assuming it would be handled. Came back — apartment still untouched.

When I called again, they acted like I never asked for cleaning and claimed someone had already checked the apartment and “found no bad smell.” Complete nonsense. I reminded them I clearly asked for cleaning. Their response? “Housekeeping is done for the day, nothing we can do now.”

So I ended up spending the whole stay in a damp, musty-smelling apartment with no cleaning service at all. Absolutely unacceptable for any hotel, especially one that markets itself as “honest.”

This was my worst hotel experience in Prague — I will never stay here again and I strongly suggest others...

Wir haben ein langes Wochenende mit drei Übernachtungen im Erdgeschoss des Hauses verbracht.

Das Zimmer war sehr sauber und modern eingerichtet. Es ist ziemlich groß, auch wenn viel Platz wegen der Aufteilung des Apartments nicht genutzt werden kann. Es sind mobile Klimageräte vorhanden. Das Badezimmer ist modern gestaltet. Die Küche war vernünftig ausgestattet mit Kochfeld und Waschmaschine. Außerdem ist die Unterkunft gut und zentral gelegen.

Obwohl wir zunächst befürchteten, dass es sehr laut sein würde, da die Straße vor der Tür entlang geht, war es recht ruhig. Einzig das Aussentor ist unglaublich laut und lässt einen selbst im Schlaf hochschrecken. Einerseits quietscht das Tor, andererseits fällt es sehr laut zu. Das Tor wird natürlich oft von allen Gästen genutzt, sodass es eigentlich ständig auf und zu geht.

Wie von anderen beschrieben ist die Luft in den Erdgeschoss/Keller-Apartments wirklich sehr schlecht und muffig. Selbst lüften mit allen Fenstern half nur ein wenig. Auch der Lufterfrischer und die Klimageräte machen es nur ein wenig besser. Es gibt ein Kellerfenster, das kann man aber nicht öffnen. Der Lüfter im Bad lies sich leider nicht ausschalten und lief die ganze Nacht weiter. Dieser Fakt, die laute Tür und die Helligkeit im Raum stört wirklich sehr beim schlafen. Es sind keine Vorhänge vorhanden, sodass es eigentlich immer sehr hell im Raum ist.

Wie bereits beschrieben ist das Zimmer sehr sauber und modern eingerichtet. Leider ist es ein wenig zu minimalistisch. Es fehlen im Prinzip überall Ablagemöglichkeiten: in der Dusche, am Waschbecken, am Bett(!). In der Küche haben wir außerdem ein Spültuch vermisst.

Auch bei uns kam kein Zimmerservice. Das hat uns aber auch nicht gestört, da wir in der Zeit auch mit einem Satz Tüchern klar kamen.

Was uns auch sehr irritiert hat war der Check-In und Check-Out. Bereits zu Hause haben wir versucht über den Link einzuchecken, was einfach nicht möglich war, da die Seite einfach endlos geladen hat und ich nie zur versprochenen App kam. Nach zwei Versuchen mit Eingabe der Ausweis-ID für alle Reisenden hatte ich keine Lust mehr. Also habe ich mich auf den angegebenen vor Ort Check-In über den „Kiosk“ verlassen, was leider nicht funktioniert hat, da ich bereits den Online-Check-In gestartet habe. Unter der angegebenen Nummer konnte man mir leider nicht helfen und verwies mich wieder auf den Online-Check-In. Also vor Ort wieder die Ausweis-ID und alle personenbezogenen Daten eingeben. Irgendwann hat es dann endlich geklappt und wir konnten die Zimmertür per Handy entsperren. Für uns sehr unpraktisch, da das Handy auch mal keinen Akku mehr haben kann. Außerdem möchte ich eigentlich keine weitere App auf meinem Telefon haben, nur um die Tür zu entriegeln. Beim Check-Out dann das gleiche .

Alles in allem ein Aufenthalt mit gemischten Gefühlen. Sehr schönes Zimmer mit toller Lage. Gleichzeitig leider zu viele Nachteile. Ich denke, wir werden zukünftig wo anders...

The central location directly at the Florence bus station is very convenient, but currently involves a small detour (depending on the metro exit) due to construction work between the metro station and the bus station. However, the construction work does not affect the property.

The apartments are fully equipped and are also cleaned during longer stays. The building was renovated just a year ago, so all apartments are in very good condition and also have international TV channels and air conditioning.

The building has a small, cozy courtyard where drinks are also sold. In addition, there is a coffee machine in the rooms, and coffee capsules are also available. Detergent for both the dishwasher and washing machine is also provided.

Check-in is either online via an app or at a machine at the entrance. Communication with the “reception” is via WhatsApp and is reliable.
