I stayed here for 3 nights. I booked a hostel because I’m travelling solo and all the hotels in Copenhagen were over my budget. Maybe it’s a sign that hostels aren’t for me, but I dreaded returning to my room every night because of how much I have to consider for my roommates including noise and lights and the overall inconvenience of a tiny space.
Nothing is free in this hotel including access to amenities like kitchen or gym space, or even an extra towel. That probably works well logistically since there are so many people staying here, but personally I felt like I’m being tortured with no sense of hospitality; just paying for a bunk bed. I was also quite surprised by the size of this building and the number of rooms they have. It’s a long corridor with room after room. Almost feels like they tried to pack as many rooms as possible at the expense of comfortable space.
Also, the music is really loud in the lobby and there is a constant party vibe which is good for certain occasions but tiring to come back to every night. That said it’s close to the central station and it was convenient to walk from every day going to different areas in the city. If I’m doing the same trip again, I would probably just book a room in an airbnb for same price or higher because the beds were also so narrow and uncomfortable, plus the sounds of people tossing and turning in their beds echo louder than you’d expect. There also isn’t decent space to put your toiletries in the bathroom or comfortably open up your luggage. The rooms are as minimal as it gets. I think it could be fun if you’re booking with a group of friends in the same room where you can talk, but if you’re sleeping with strangers, some people in the room would be early sleepers while others came back late, and it causes some friction and you constantly have to whisper.
As a traveller, these improvements would make the rooms more comfortable bath mats (shower isn’t water proof and leaks into rest of the bathroom, leaving the floor wet for the next person) more gaps between towel hangers (theyre so close that different peoples towels touch together) more storage space in the rooms; possibly under the bed
If you are travelling here, remember to bring your own lock. They also sell one at the front desk but it costs 50dk. Also bring ear plugs, eye mask and slippers.
Overall, the experience in the lobby is lively and quite good, but it’s like a plain jail cell in the sleeping space. If you care about comfort, try your best to see if there is an alternative where you don’t need to cram yourself...
Read moreBudget-Friendly Hostel in the Heart of Copenhagen||I booked a private dorm for two adults with a bathroom at Next House Copenhagen just a day before our trip, and it was almost fully booked—so I felt lucky to secure it last minute. We paid 75,266 ISK for five nights (October 26-30, 2024), which included breakfast for two, and found it to be a budget-friendly option.||1. Location|The location is amazing! Right in the heart of Copenhagen, everything is close by, and it’s easy to get to and from the airport. There’s even a bus stop right in front of the entrance, making it super convenient for travelers.||2. Building|The building itself is huge, modern, and comfortable, with plenty of spaces for different activities. You can chill, have a drink, eat, meet people, work out in the gym, or catch a movie. It’s a fun, vibrant space for all ages, with an indoor yard and terrace with plants and views.||3. Prices|Food, drinks, and snacks are all really affordable, which makes it great for travelers on a budget.||4. Staff|The staff were friendly and welcoming, which added to the pleasant experience.||5. Breakfast and Dinner|We had breakfast included and added dinner as well for 126 DKK. If you book dinner with your room, it’s just 60 DKK, which is a great deal. The café is spacious and comfortable, with a view, and the food selection is impressive. There’s a range of options: fruits, carbs, nuts, yogurt, milk (both dairy and dairy-free), ham, cheese, butter, various breads, coffee, tea, and juices. For dinner, the “Pizza Time” was fantastic; the pizzas, salads, and pasta were incredibly tasty, maybe some of the best pizzas I’ve had!||6. Room Cleanliness|Now for the reason I’d reconsider booking Next House next time: the cleanliness of the dorm. While the building itself seemed clean, our room (1417) did not meet my expectations. The walls were dirty, with gray handprints and green smudges, and there was dust everywhere. I was hesitant to place my belongings under the bed, even though there was space, because it didn’t look clean. The coat hooks on the wall weren’t very convenient, either.||Cleanliness is really important to me, so this was a big disappointment. Ultimately, I rated the hostel 3 stars because of this. However, if cleanliness isn’t a top concern for you, Next House is still a fantastic, lively place to spend a few days...
Read moreThere were far more negatives than positives and I would not choose to stay here again and wouldn’t recommend it to others.
The short list of positives: -The rooftop bar is the greatest thing about this whole place. -The amenities are fairly nice and they do offer paid bike rentals, but can be hard to get. -It’s an easily walkable location from the train station. The bars/restaurants and amenities such as the gym are the only reason it gets 2 stars and not 1 since I’ve stayed in worse places.
NEGATIVES: -I booked a private room which was even smaller than what appeared in pictures. Extremely difficult for two people plus bags. -When we got to the room, it seemed barely cleaned. There was stuff splattered on the wall, which I wiped off myself (meaning it wasn’t stained and they just didn’t take the time to clean it). There were black hairs on the blankets and in the shower. And there were used napkins/tissues behind the bed. The tip that the last person left for house keeping was even left on top of the headboard, so they obviously didn’t do a very thorough job to even notice money. -You only get one towel per person. No hand towel, no bath mat. If you want another towel you have to pay for it. The shower floods out all over the bathroom floor. -As mentioned, they don’t have enough bikes to rent out. I got lucky one day, and when trying again the next day even at 8 am they were all gone for several hours when I kept checking back. -The airflow and light a/c is awful. I tried to wash clothes and had to pay to do the same load of laundry twice since the first time they weren’t completely rinsed and hadn’t gone through a spin cycle, and when squeezing out the sopping clothes there was black foul smelling water coming out of them. After washing them again in a different washer, they still didn’t smell great. -On our morning of checkout, housekeeping knocked on our door both at 9:30 and 10:30 pressuring us to leave. Checkout is at 11:00 and we were out before then. The locking mechanism on our door wouldn’t allow us to close it when leaving unless we unlocked it from the outside with the key card and held it shut, or had to loudly slam it shut. The latch on the bathroom door also wouldn’t close.
Copenhagen is a very expensive city, but this place isn’t...
