Amazing rooms, service, location, wildlife, and food. Long but beautiful boat ride to the lodge. Saw so many species of animals throughout the trip. Saw every animal we could have dreamed of. Rooms were very nice. Beautiful bathrooms and view. Very comfortable. Wildlife was right outside our window in the morning. Heard Howler Monkeys in the morning. The guides were fantastic and went out of their way for us. Guido was our guide and he was amazing. Helped our 3 kids under 12 years old. Pointed out and explained nature to us very well. Guido seemed to know everything in that area. Also he was very kind and understanding. Every trip we took down the river, a rower would come and row our canoe for the whole trip. The rower would also help point out animals such as sloths, anaconda, tarantulas, birds, and so much more. Food was DELICIOUS! Fantastic steak and dessert. Gorgeous fruit preparations. Food for kids as well. Have everything, even for picky eaters. Chefs were also very kind. Very kid friendly. Our kids loved the wildlife and short hikes. Our 5 year old had a very good time and the guides and other staff made him comfortable. One highlight of our stay was the giant otters. They were funny and exciting to watch. We saw them eating and swim together. Loved watching the baby one. 🥹 Also was a night hike where we got to see the little creatures that were not out in the day. The view from the lookout tower was more than stunning. You could really see how beautiful the amazon rainforest was. I would definitely go back there and I recommend it to anyone who loves wildlife and is ready for an adventure.

Amazing natural beauty, exceptional service, managed and operated by the local people that live on the land. I spent four nights here with my adult daughter and it was absolutely perfect. While there are no guarantees in nature, we saw 6 types of monkeys, innumerable beautiful birds, snakes, otters, turtles and Caymen. Even if we had not seen the animals, the beauty of the rain forest would have been enough. Our guide, Delfin, was honestly exceptional. This is not our first trip- we have travelled quite a bit- and he is really one of the top two guides/naturalists we have had. His knowledge of the animals and forest is extensive, and he worked so hard for us to see the beautiful animals that we saw. He clearly loves the rain forest and has immense respect for nature. Bring long light weight pants and long sleeved (preferably colors that blend in and nothing too bright) shirts, mosquito spray and sunscreen. Also sandals and something comfortable for the evening. The rooms have shampoo and soap. Also a hair dryer. The lodge provides you with a day pack, water bottle, rubber boots for hiking (actually quite comfortable even on a long hike) and there is filtered water throughout. The food is excellent and it’s honestly more than you can eat. You pay extra only for drinks other than water. We were here in December- dry season- so it rained for one hour total on one day. They do have ponchos but we didn’t need those. I felt good about spending money here. The people that should profit are actually profiting. It’s remote but still very luxurious. Spotless, well run. Can’t say enough. Highly recommend.

My wife and I spent 5 days (April 12 to 16, 2025) at NAPO. Our experience exceeded our expectations. We chose NAPO because it is 100% operated by the local community and any profit goes directly to the local community. Although other lodges might hire local community members the profits might not be used to support the local community. This was important to us after reading how the oil and mining companies are damaging large swaths of the Ecuadorian Amazon and thus displacing many local communities. The Napo local community have been given the right and responsibility to insure that the lands under community control are managed in a sustainable manner. The lodge and surroundings are beautiful. The staff are as good or better than what I have experienced in five star hotels. The Amazon is simply amazing and the guides are fantastic. The food was great. It was hard to believe that we were in the middle of the Amazon rainforest. I would love to come back.

One of the most special places we have ever been - words cannot describe how amazing this lodge is. We had the most incredible experiences. Before going, we were warned that seeing the wildlife here would be more difficult than other countries (Costa Rica, African safaris etc) - the density and scale of the jungle means sightings are rarer, but made more special when they do happen. Therefore we went into this trip not expecting to see a lot of wildlife, which meant every encounter we did have was amazing. ||The guides we had for the week were fantastic - both Andres and Richar were so well informed, knowledgeable and great at spotting wildlife. From our experience, (and I'm sure the same applies to all the other great guides too), they made our trip. They were so kind, helpful and made us laugh every day. Their dedication and commitment to the wildlife and the rainforest was so good to see.||We stayed for a week, which is longer than most, as we wanted to maximise our opportunities for seeing wildlife. Each day was varied and we did different activities including canoe safaris, hikes, time at observation towers and salt licks, longer day trips and a cultural visit to the community. Over the course of the week, we were lucky enough to see: 6 species of monkey, anaconda, Harpy eagle (from a distance), multiple sightings of the giant otters as they were in the area - not so common usually as their territory is huge, pink river dolphins, caiman, scarlet macaws and lots more amazing birds.||This lodge is owned and run by the local indigenous Kichwa Añangu (something which we felt the lodge could emphasise more on their website). This was one of the main reasons for booking here compared to other lodges in the area (although it should be noted, the Napo Cultural Centre is run by the same community and is a cheaper alternative). Therefore, every $ you spend here, goes directly towards a wonderful community whose priority and passion is ecotourism, protecting the rainforest and educating other communities in this way (a sustainable and much needed alternative to the oil companies operating in the wider area). This lodge isn't cheap, but for us, it was well worth it.||The service and staff were welcoming, friendly and knew all the guests on first name terms. The food was great and they catered for my dietary needs to perfection (vegetarian) and I am also allergic to nuts - I was told that for the duration of our stay they would not use any nuts in their kitchen at all. ||They offered talks about the lodge and community - both of which were really interesting.||The lodge was beautiful - we couldn't walk outside of the boundaries because of safety reasons, but there were plenty of places to spend our free time - hammocks outside the rooms and by the jetty, the observation tower - perfect for cocktails at sunset and we had monkeys right outside our cabin on multiple days. ||We were...

In the face of intense pressure to sell their land to oil companies, the Kichwa Añangu community took a chance on ecotourism instead. The result is a pristine lodge with world-class accommodations in one of the most beautiful places on earth.

My recent visit to Napo Wildlife Center (NWC) with my husband was nothing short of incredible. We spent four days with Jairo (naturalist guide), Jorge (community guide), and Roger (paddler), and we could not have asked for a better team. Jairo loves the rainforest with all his heart; this was evident in his deep knowledge of the area, his infectious enthusiasm about the plants and animals we saw, and his reverence for the Kichwa community. As one of the founders of NWC, Jorge knows every inch of the land. He could spot wildlife from a mile away, and he also taught us about various medicinal and beneficial plants in the forest. He graciously answered the dozens of questions we had for him about NWC and how he and others from his community brought their radical vision to life. Roger had eagle eyes as well, spotting anacondas and other wildlife for us that we never would have found on our own.

Another thing we loved is that NWC is a well-oiled machine. As soon as we arrived at the airport in Quito, an NWC team member greeted us, provided our boarding passes, and helped us check in our bags. From there, everything was completely taken care of. We even ran into David—an off-duty member of the NWC team, on the plane to Coca—and he was so warm, welcoming, and helpful. All of our meals were delicious and accounted for our food allergies and preferences. The excursions were well organized and clearly communicated in advance. The cabins were clean and comfortable, with gorgeous views. We also learned a lot during our visit due to NWC’s commitment to education, which made us love and appreciate the lodge even more.

We left NWC feeling like a weight had been lifted off our chests. Four days in a stunning location that has been meticulously protected by the local community had fed our souls. This is what travel should be. We hope NWC’s model of community-based ecotourism continues to gain traction around the world, and we hope to visit this special place...
