Mi Caleta is a nice place. Beds are comfy. Breakfast is good. Garden with hammocks is super cute. Staff were nice. A/C in room was loud and inefficient at cooling, but the noise blocked the construction sounds taking place nearby. ||||So why the poor review? Two reasons. Upon arrival, a woman knocked on my room door and began interrogating me about a tour I had contacted an operator about but not confirmed, as they acted in a shady and unprofessional manner. She acted as though she was with the hotel. Later, the hotel would tell me they didn't know who she was. Well, I sure didn't either. So why did they let her in the locked front gate to accost their guests?||||Secondly, I lost over $200 from the room. As there is no safe, I had tucked my cash (a large amount as I was heading to Isabela where the ATMs are unreliable) inside another wallet and had hidden it inside my travel pillow. On the second day, I noticed that the wallet and pillow were disturbed along with other items in the room, but (stupidly, in hindsight) did not count it again right then and there since many items were moved due to the cleaning. On the third day, the money was counted and all but a single $20 (strategically wrapped to hide the missing bills) was gone. The hotel claims only us occupants and the housekeeping entered the room and stridently defended the housekeeper. They were unable to explain how money magically disappears from a hidden wallet that never left the room though. I had my debit card with me so I was able to withdraw additional funds, but being robbed rather darkens your...
Read moreWe have just left Mi Caleta after a three night stay. We arrived pretty early in the morning having just finished a 5 day cruise. Although our room wasn’t ready, they were very accommodating and immediately gave us a WiFi password to help pass the time. Room was huge - I think we booked a twin but had one double bed and one single. It was also very clean. Bathroom was the biggest I have ever seen - complete with his/hers sinks! In terms of location, it is a bit further from the centre of Puerto Ayora than some of the other places we looked at, but this does make it quieter (Friday night in Puerto Ayora was pretty noisy!) and we (2 female travellers) felt very safe in the neighbourhood. They were also incredibly accommodating at breakfast for me, a fussy vegetarian, swapping eggs for vegetables (delicious!!) and ensuring my coeliac friend always had an alternative to toast. The staff were constantly friendly and very helpful in arranging taxi to the airport. The only reason i have dropped a mark is that my friend and I didn’t sleep very well - not the hotel’s fault - but we had at least 2 lizards in our room which ‘chirped’ regularly through the night, our room was close to the breakfast area which was noisy first thing and occasionally late at night, and we had a very noisy cat fight on the roof above us one night. Despite that we wouldn’t hesitate to stay again. Worth also noting that there is a kitchen with fridge/cooker/microwave that...
Read moreWe were a little surprised with how nice the reviews are here, but sadly this place did not live up to our expectations. First, the pros: The location is decent, it's a bit of a walk from the restaurants/shops but it's a nice walk, so no complaints there. The garden inside was peaceful and beautiful.||||Now for the cons, room was large but something irritated our family's skin staying here - bed bugs? Not sure. Breakfast was not worth it. Also found out speaking with other guests we basically paid double what they did even though we paid cash since we booked in advance/online - our loss, your gain if you decide to stay here, but still a bit of a bummer. Owner was also hesitant to give back change the next day. Overall, I would say there are other places to stay while in Puerto Ayora that are better and would not recommend...
