We visited the San Cristobal location last night after viewing the amazing dishes recommended on the Midori IG profile.
We arrived well before closing but with the way that we (and other guests) were left waiting at our tables to be attended, it might as well have been closed. Some guests decided to just leave, but I wanted to give the serving staff the benefit of the doubt since it looked like it had been busy right before we came.
Big mistake.
First, I had to ask the waitress for menus (??) which prompted a seriously offensive look from her! Once we were brought our drinks, my wife needed a straw...and I had to get up to go to the bar to ask for one myself since she was gone. Again, not a huge problem, perhaps she was attending other side work or taking a small break. Nope! Even after she reappeared she basically left us at our table for over 10 minutes before I had to go over to her to tell her that we also wanted food??
After bringing our appetizer with ONE PLATE for two people she looked confused and put off as to why I was bothering her for another plate!
No recommendations. No service whatsoever, even when it started to rain and we were obviously needing to move our table away from the more open area on the third floor patio (a premium section for any server, totally wasted on her!) When we re-seated ourselves and she gruffly took our appetizer plates, she tried to TAKE OUR MENUS multiple times without even wondering if my wife wanted another drink or IF WE WANTED TO ORDER ROLLS OR ENTREES.
She attended her own self and sat on her phone in the view of us and the entire 3rd floor almost as soon as she could get away from cleaning her section and another waitress brought us our food and then gave us some service.
Her ATROCIOUS SERVICE completely ruined any ambience or enjoyment of what was EXCELLENT FOOD (though the Galapaguito roll was quite tasteless). If I have one star to give it was because of the sublime Mariscos del Fuego (compliments to the BOH chefs, I want to give you 5 stars for that plate alone!)
I didn't want to be rude and take a picture of this woman on her phone because we are in the service industry (BOH and FOH) but we couldn't find a manager to give them our thoughts so I guess I have to resort to a Google review to describe how poorly we were treated and how I implore their managers to give some basic customer service training to the staff (we were told by the other server that they were tired from a busy shift but that is no excuse for her attitude and losing the restaurant at least another $50-100 that we were willing to spend to try multiple items and cocktails from the menus that she kept trying to take from us!)
I ordered LESS because of...
Read moreThis is a great place to enjoy an afternoon beverage. The cocktails here are excellent and is especially hard to find a good cocktail in South America, many are overly sweet. The Maracuya Mojito was amazing! The food here is also quality and the portions are large. The food is a little pricer, but this is one of the nicer restaurants on the island. The shimp salad is a good option for $8 and with lettuce, carrot, beetroot and avocado is relatively healthy, other than the fried prawns and wonton, which were very tasty and added another level of texture. The sesame coated tuna for $14 consisted of two very large portions of tuna served with rice and salad. The fire roll for $14.50 is a cool dish with some flaming theatrics. The dish is doused with a flaming shot of sake at the table, very cool or should we say hot. It is a tasty sushi roll with an interesting texture from being fried, the sake flavour is quite strong, but this can be negated with some of the passionfruit or teriyaki dipping sauce provided. Frank, the young bartender/waiter is a cool guy and his English is excellent, good for a conversation and tips on what to do...
Read moreLove it. Best food on the Galapagos. also the sushi is very good here. I've had sushi in alot of places. Even Japan. Take it from me the sushi here is good. As you'd expect from islands with plenty of access to fresh fish.
Don't be fooled by the fact that it's primarily sushi. They do very good Ecuadorian food too. For example I had an interesting dish today where there was tuna, roasted parmesan cheese and truffle oil. Sounds weird but it was delicious. Also had a whitefish cooked in plantain leaf which was amazing. I've been to both branches one in San Cristobal and the one in Santa Cruz and they are both fantastic. Great cocktails. Good service. Delicious desserts. Huge portions. (You get ten rolls when you order the sushi rolls) Also they accept card which is amazing. Also, also - my partner tells me to add that they do coconut juice and it's the best she's ever had. And I would agree.
I will probably even go...
