Classic Mom and Pop Hostal with all you need, a-c, hot water, clean rooms, a kitchen, and a view. Great pricing and HONEST FOLKS, which can be hard to find with everyone trying to nickel and dime you to death. The older couple who owns this place couldn´t be nicer, they let us use their kitchen to boil water when our gas ran out and they still replaced it right away. The also made an exception and refunded part of our money when we had a family emergency and had to leave the island which is UNPRECEDENTEDLY HONEST in Ecuador.
DO NOT PAY for other pricey hotels, you are going to be heading out first thing in the morning to see the beautiful galapagos islands and won´t be spending much time in a hotel room anyway. The owner even has an old air raid siren he has installed ¨in case of emergencies¨ that you can flip on with a switch, we didn´t use it but did activate it while looking for the light switch, man that thing would scare off any intruder, you can hear it on the whole island! This hostal is in a safe, quiet area. The ´smell´ from some other moronic reviews is authentic teak wood that the furniture is made out of in the rooms.
LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION.This place is the BEST priced for its location CLOSE TO THE PIER, which is essential because ALL of the skiff taxis and boats for your tours will be leaving from there. It is on the same street as a great tour agency(on the corner with the tortoise statue out front, ask for Dona Julia she is the best) and a cyber cafe, as well as being smack dab in the middle of the Puerto Ayora restaurant scene(well, if you like overpriced restaurants for gringos, if not walk a little further and the reasonable, authentic restaurants are 3-4 blocks north from the price gougers hang a left at the city market with all the produce).
Please please please choose this as your vacation spot and pay with cash to help them out.
Oh, and say hello to Santiago, their kitty cat while you are there, he can be seen ´living the life´ in the reception office or chasing Galapagos´ night herons by...
Read moreWe arrived to Santa Cruz from Izabella and we were looking for an economic place to stay. After checking some hostels we arrived to Brattle hospedaje.||||Since we were staying for 4 nights we got a room for around 27 USD per night (instead of 30).||||It was actually a suit, awhole floor only for us. A room with a big living room, kitchen, bedroom and private bathroom. Of course we didn't think twice. ||||When we entered the room we felt there is a weird smell. We assumed some ventilation will make it away. ||||I started exploring the place. I opened the fridge where I found a rotten food!||||I started notice that the place is not really clean, it seemed like no one was in the room for a long time. ||||After exploring more I also found the source of the smell - a gas leak! from the kitchen.||||We decided to stay for the night and see the next day if to look for other place or maybe other room at the same place. ||||At the night we also got a visit from the hostel's cat! Obviously we had to keep the window open because of the gas leak.||||The next day we told the owner about all the things, she refused to accept there is a gas leak. We decided to pay for the night (30 USD) and to look for another place.||||I wouldn't...
Read moreLovely stay at this well run hostel. The rooms are clean and spacious and the location is very close to the main thoroughfare.||The owners are a Galapagan, English couple who are very helpful and made our stay very pleasant. We were extremely grateful of their local knowledge when trying to organise tours and cruises from the port. In addition they were incredibly kind to allow us to leave our bags while we searched over the days we were there.||The hostel is honestly priced for an expensive area and of the ones we looked at it was the cheapest in town. One of the main pulls that drew us here was the use of a large kitchen to cook our own food and keep the price of the stay down. ||The main downsides of the hostels were the wifi, which was very slow and often not working. Although to be fair you don't go to the Galapagos to use the wifi, there is a cheap Internet cafe 20m from the hostel.||I would recommend this as a place to stay for any budget travellers looking for a...
