One of the worst place ever to be. The bed and floor was filthy and the place is an really old building. The roof had cracks and the walls had stains. Also there is really poor noise canceling you can hear noises via door like baby crying/screaming, steps from people that uses toilet and loud talks and it was impossible to sleep there. The air was really humid that was making sleeping even harder. The shower was not that clean and I didn't trust to use. The beds were too hot and the room was too moist. There were some shirts from previous costumer and they didn't take care of just left. The towel had red stains which wasn't clean. It was disgusting and depressing to be there it reminded like i am living some drug addicts home. But for 1 night its okay. But the person who checked me to the hotel was nice.

Грубость персонала испортила все впечатление /The rudeness of the reception employee ruined the whole impression. UPDATE: I am deeply disappointed with your dishonest and aggressive reply. The situation was nothing like you described it, and it was very upsetting to read your comment. On the other hand, your comment shows exactly what kind of attitude you give your guests - not just rude, but also mean, such as suggesting that other people are "unkind to us" (!) because we are "not positive enough". Attacking the character of your guests and openly lying about their experience at your hostel is not going to undo the bad impression you left of yourself as a host. Also, here's what actually happened: When my son and I arrived to the hostel that evening, the reception was empty, and we weren't sure if anyone was around to check us in. After waiting for some time, we decided to find out whether the reception is closed for the night, or whether someone will still be coming in later to check us in. We wondered around looking for anyone that could give us an answer, and, in a few minutes, saw you cooking in the guest kitchen. We didn't know whether you were a guest or an employee, and we politely asked you whether you happened to know if there was anyone working at the reception at that time. As it turns out, that one question made you call us "hysterical", which was absolutely shocking to read! We wish we had recorded that interaction to show how completely false and rude your accusations are! You were visibly angry and annoyed at us for interrupting your break, and accused us of being selfish and thoughtless to come find you instead of waiting for you. Mind you, that we didn't even know who you were, we were just trying to figure out what to do, and we most definitely did not "hysterically demand to be checked in immediately", nor "broke into a closed door during a break" as you wrote - it was a guest kitchen, open to everyone, and we had no idea who you were, let alone that you were an employee on a break. In fact, you could have simply answered "sorry, the reception will be open in 10 minutes", and we would have waited for you without any issues. However, you chose to unleash your annoyance and anger at us, and to demonstrate your poor attitude to us throughout the check-in process. Lastly, you mentioned that we "were told about an official 10-minute coffee break", but that is completely untrue. As we later found out, there was a clock showing a time when the reception would be open again, but it was small and had no explanation on it that the numbers on the clock refer to the reception opening time. It would have been helpful to indicate that information clearly for all your guests to see, and not just expect that someone will notice the small clock and understand its meaning. You could have also asked us why we were confused about the break time and you could have tried to improve the experience for your next guests by marking the break times more clearly on your schedule to avoid any future misunderstandings. Instead, you chose to be mean and rude to us, accusing us in having no compassion to "live people who work 13-hr shifts who sometimes want to eat in peace". If you are unhappy with your schedule, please take it up with your manager and don't dump your negativity at the guests who barely stepped foot in your hostel. P.S. Your words that by evaluating you we actually are "evaluating ourselves" and that we "chose to hear what we wanted" make no sense, just like...

Horrible. Do not go there. First of all we come there and there is a stripclub right next to it and a tobacco shop. Nowhere does it say it’s not recommended for kids, when it really should. We walk in to check in and it was supposed to open at 2, but no one came for half an hour. There were other people waiting aswell and nobody was there. We decided last minute to get out of there and sleep in a hotel because it was so horrible. The bathrooms are just there, anyone from outside can walk in. You can immediatly see that the doors are paperthin and there is gaps between the door and you can almost see inside.. if some homeless person wanted a place to stay they could just easily come in. We walked in and immediatly you cannot breathe in there. It stinks like piss and toilet, with ALL of the toilet doors open when u walk in.. One flower pot accidentally fell and you can see that even the flowers are dying. Tried to call them after no one came and they do not answer the phone. And they charge a pretty good price for the rooms, so it doesn’t seem like they wouldnt have money to make some fixes. Worst part is that on the internet they give a better impression putting pictures of the view and not talking about the strip clubs that are near. If you are thinking to come because its cheap, i promise you can find a much better place for a good price. Especially do not go if you are traveling wirh kids. Not...

I spent one night here with three family members. Cost and location were the two most important factors for me, and on those two points Hostel 31 delivers in spades -- for two small double rooms (without windows, one single bed per person) I paid 74 euros (70 GBP or $85) -- that's less than 19 euros / 18 GBP / $22 per person -- and the hostel is within walking distance of pretty much everything you might want to do during a short stay in Tallinn (the ferry terminal, Old Town, the ghastly Mall of Tallinn, Kadriorg Park). So, like I said, for me it delivered. Potential downsides: I deliberately booked rooms without windows figuring that for one night that's okay. For me it was fine, but some of my family members minded the rooms' warmth and the fact that the air conditioning (which worked fine) was audible. With these cheapest rooms you share a WC and separate shower, but there were two of both on our floor, so there was never a queue and everything was clean, with excellent water pressure in the (admittedly cramped and malodorous but clean) shower. I read the other reviews here before booking and decided to take the risk -- yes, Hostel 31 is next to a strip club; no, I did not experience any noise from any other guests or rooms. To sum up, if you are seasoned traveller who rates price and location over everything else, then Hostel 31 is a very...
