Service and food were both fantastic.
I agree with the reviewer below me: the ramen is delicious, but just be aware that there is an Estonian/European influence throughout the Kolm Sibulat menu.
For example, there is a beef carpaccio ramen, which I’ve never heard of before. I asked the waitress if it was like pho in that way, but maybe I didn’t say it clearly enough because she wasn’t sure.
Like the reviewer below me, I also ordered the spicy prawn ramen- but unlike the reviewer below, I didn’t get the bok choy vegetable in mine :( I really wish I had bok choy. The prawns and egg were very tasty. The prawns (about 5 pieces) come peeled, deveined, and without the heads. The consistency of the ramen noodle is very nice and tasty as well.
My husband ordered the goose and really enjoyed the salt and pepper flavor and the crispy skin. We also shared starter of tempura eggplant. It had a unique flavor with cumin, which was enjoyable.
I really appreciate how both Kolm Sibulat and their sister restaurant Moon both provide children menus with some nice options in small portions. They also provide coloring pencils in a bag. My children both ordered the children’s chicken broth ramen, and they both really enjoyed that and easily finished it. The wait staff were kind and brought the childrens’ ramen out first so they could begin eating. Their ramen bowls contained bok choy. I wish there had been an option for protein in their ramen- perhaps chicken or beef. For dessert, the kids shared the fresh pineapple with a vanilla type mousse in the middle and they enjoyed that also.
The pumpkin seed bread and butter are delicious- The complimentary bread is far tastier here than at their sister restaurant Moon. I also appreciated how the waitresses brought us tap water here when we asked for water. At their sister restaurant Moon, I forgot to ask for tap water, and was given two 5 Euro bottles of water.
The corner location is down the street from the Stockmann department store and also the Swissotel- a 1 or 2 minute walk from...
Read moreOverall the restaurant looks nice. However, we were seated in a corner next to the entrance to the kitchen / bar so the atmosphere was rather uninviting. The same goes for the service that ignored us somewhat (probably because of the place - out of sight out of mind). But oh well, maybe the food can save the day, or in our case the evening. For starters we had the beetroot and gorgonzola tart and the aubergine tempura. Both were great, the beetroot tart more simple, the heaviness of aubergine tempura was nicely balanced with the spicy-sweet-sour dips. So far so good. For the main we ordered the roasted sweet potato and the duck. The sweet potato was the most uninspiring dish I have had at a restaurant in a long time - it was literally just a roasted sweet potato with some pomegranate seeds thrown on top of it. Insipid, bland, boring. The duck was well done but the sauce very heavy on the star anise and the purée had a weird somewhat slimy texture (overdone with the stabilizer?). As we had a great start and a very mediocre main we gave it another try and ordered dessert. The plum cardamom cake was perfection; plum and cardamom complimented each other nicely, the cake was juice and the salted caramel rounded the dish up. The elderflower raspberry curd on the other hand was a huge disappointment. Once again the texture was off -as with the purée in the main- and the meringue had a bean-ish taste. Would I recommend the place? I would not due to the inconsistency of the dishes and the very mediocre service. For that money you get much better experiences at other...
Read moreWe chose this restaurant for its convenient proximity to our hotel. Our meal began with a delightful selection of starters: porcini mushrooms and sea trout. As we settled in, freshly baked bread and butter arrived, followed shortly by two exquisite culinary creations. The fried mushroom balls, nestled in a luscious cheese sauce, boasted a crisp crust and deep, satisfying flavor. The sea trout, beautifully presented, was accompanied by a silky avocado purée, vibrant passionfruit sauce, and fresh strawberries—a feast for both the eyes and the palate. Our chosen wine, a Grüner Veltliner, complemented the dish’s bright acidity perfectly. With such a promising start, our expectations for the main course—the crispy carp fish—were high. The attentive waitress provided impeccable service, ensuring every detail met our preferences. The dish itself was divine, a masterful symphony of textures and flavours, flawlessly orchestrated. A true delight, both visually stunning and exquisitely balanced for the taste buds. The wine selection further enhanced the experience, creating a perfect pairing. For dessert, we indulged in fresh strawberries and Basque cheesecake, accompanied by a delicate glass of Sauternes. This final touch rounded off our meal beautifully, leaving us thoroughly satisfied. Thank you for the dedication poured into the menu, the thoughtfully curated wine list, the impeccable execution, and the warm, attentive service. From start to finish, we felt at home...
