A disappointment.
Expectation was high. Actually the place seems to be well known especially for its steak quality but it wasn’t able to fulfill the promises.
When we arrived at the location we still have been looking forward to a real culinary experience. Have been placed in front of the restrooms, so it was kind of not the best start, but well, someone has to sit over there. The starters have been no revelation, but it was good. So far worth for 3 or 4 stars. But then the main course… decided both obviously for one of steaks. Medium rare.
Honestly spoken, in a higher ranked and priced restaurant like the Härg I expect that the meat is coming as requested… both were not medium rare at all. Plus: praised as Estonias best steak I have to admit, I would feel sorry for Estonia if that’s the case. As it’s known - depending on type of course - fat has its important role in giving a steak its unique and good flavor, but in this case it was way too heavily saturated with fat.
Service: I can not call it unfriendly, it wasn’t. But let’s say it was kind of very unemotional. Actually we felt not comfortable at all. Maybe she had just not her best day, or she simply disliked us, don’t know. Not attentive. It seemed more like the table should be released as quick as possible again (even if there have been couple of free tables in the front area when we were leaving). Of course no-one of the many employees was saying something like goodbye or wishing a nice evening. Fortunately, haven’t experienced something like this in any other place in Tallinn, but surprisingly of all times it happened in Härg.
Actually we planned to spent more time, but had our dessert and additional wine then somewhere else. And, luckily, with much better price-quality-ratio and kind and friendly service.
Summarized: 2 star rating might be a bit harsh. From overall experience I would say 3, but considering price level and reputation I end up with that result. No recommendation, wouldn’t go there again, especially not...
Read moreTallinn has a gem and it's called Härg. Walking in, the atmosphere hits you right in the face, not too pretentious, just the right balance of modern elegance and rustic charm. The team here knows exactly what they're doing, and you feel it from the first moment.
The Food? Unbelievable. The meat is grilled to absolute perfection. We're talking precision in every bite. The sirloin? Cooked to perfection with a crisp crust and that tender, juicy middle. You can tell they respect their ingredients. They let each one speak for itself without overwhelming flavors or unnecessary frills. Even the sides have thought and craft behind them. The vegetables are vibrant and seasoned perfectly. Not too much salt, just enough to bring out their natural flavors. It's those small details that make all the difference.
Service is sharp, efficient, and genuinely friendly. These folks aren't just going through the motions - they actually care about what they’re doing and you can feel it. They're proud of their craft and rightly so.
Härg is a spot that absolutely nails the basics and then goes above and beyond. It’s refreshing to see such dedication to quality and such an appreciation for simple, bold flavors. Tallinn, you’ve got a fantastic place here. Keep an eye on Härg - this restaurant is doing...
Read moreWe just left Härg, drawn by its Bib Gourmand recognition in the Michelin Guide, but the experience was highly disappointing. While the service was attentive, the food did not meet the expectations of a restaurant with this distinction.
I ordered a medium T-bone, but it was served well-done. When I pointed it out, the manager apologized, stating that they couldn’t control the cooking temperature—something hard to believe in a professional kitchen. Even after a second attempt, the meat lacked proper marbling, resulting in a noticeable absence of juiciness and flavor. The red wine sauce, while having a good consistency, was completely lacking in salt and overall flavor
The tartar lacked the necessary balance of citrus and spice, making it rather bland. The burrata salad and lobster were acceptable but unremarkable.
Overall, the dishes were forgettable and did not reflect the level expected of a Bib Gourmand restaurant. The experience was underwhelming, and we found nothing that justified its Michelin Guide...
