We all need sleep to get going next day. Here you will not have any. Guaranteed. In the morning you walk out like a zombie and your vacation is ruined. It's like russian roulette: you might get sleep ONLY IF there were no group partying on the street. Or then you may not. ||You WILL be awakened at 6:00 by the city's loud rumbling, tile loosening low sound; made by a vehicle that strolls street back and forth several times to collect all the waste from the night.||It's very difficult to find. There are no signs in the street. Look at door which is open to the street. On the doorway there is a call-in phone bell which reads "hideway". That is the only sign of this hostel. Climb stairs to the 1st floor. Enter heavy metal bar (whatever the music is called) with loud music and you are there. Look for a bar tender who is probably the manager to speak to. The rooms are accessed through the bar.||Avoid at all costs unless you are used to sleeping 80 dB ghetto blaster playing next to you. Screaming, fighting, lovers quarrels, moud laughing, girs giggling loudly, cars with stereos pumping all bass all they, people drunk and having fun in their own terms disregarding everybody; this was our experience as a couple in weekend... oh my.||In a nutshell: this hostel has the bad karma of being nearby probably the busiest street of the old town in summer time (July) where people are partying in the street, out of the street in bars and everywhere in the junction of the bars.||It's basic. Very. Rooms are adequate crash places, overall clean. The bathroom and showers are hand made brick by brick and plumbing is all visible. There is a washing machine for back packers. WiFi does not connect.||The guests are all well behaving. Quite time starts at 23:00. No smoking allowed. Wooden floors which creaks with every step: difficult to avoid disturbing neighbors if you wake up early.||In the morning 6:30 (bar desk staff is back at 8:00) when you leave to catch the earliest ferry to Helsinki, it's a maze to get out. We probably took some wrong turn and got us inside yard. There are no clear signs which way leads to rhe outside street. The door locked behind us. No key fits. All the gates in the yard were closed. No way out. Seriously not funny when ferry was about to leave in 30 minutes. It was pure luck that there was a backdoor to one of the bars through which we were kindly allowed to pass through eventually.||30 EUR a night. If you stay a week or more that may count in total. But for weekend one's quality of sleep is better served in 50 EUR places nearby which also include breakfast.||The Kohver hostel is located in the same building. It may have been better because it's in the top floor of...
Read moreDifficult to find. Entrance only says: "Hostel". It's the red door opposite the restaurant ("Frank" was the name?). "The Hideaway" is on the first floor. The second and third are other hostels.
There's no reception. The girl who works there advised us to leave our luggage behind her desk unattended, saying it's quite safe, but then saying "it's 50/50". Not wanting to tests these odds (since building door was left open for anybody to enter) we asked the kind receptionist from 3rd floor hostel to keep an eye on it.
The room and sheets were fresh and clean, bed very comfy and comfortably fit 2 people. There was a desk and chair to sit on, mirror, trash bin and bookshelf.
There was a coat rack, attempted to be attached to a carton wall (meaning it might hold a hat, but nothing else) and an exposed socket I'd be afraid to touch. Whole place looked very unmaintained but clean and well equipped.
Good money/value, and in a...
Read moreI came to Tallinn for a 2-day seminar and I had after that a long day booked with meetings with colleagues and friends, so I only needed a place to sleep and nothing else. I was not expecting anything booking the cheapest place close to the Arts Academy, but still I was surprised by how ascetic the room was, and during the winter freeze, how cold it also was. The promised towel was not there, and the wifi was slow and cut the connection now and then. The best things about this place are the price and the location, but unfortunately with the great location comes the problem that you will hear sounds of partying from the street below all night long. What I can recommend this place for, is crash landings after you have been drinking all evening with your pals and just need a bed where you can fall on your face...
