We chose this hotel for the location and the family rooms. We booked accommodations for five people, which consisted of two rooms down a short private hallway that can be locked. The larger room had a double bed and a single bed. The other room was very small and had just one double bed and very little space to maneuver. Both rooms had a tiny room with just a toilet and another small room with a shower and sink. The toilet room in the smaller bedroom was so tiny there was barely enough room to close the door. The toilet and shower rooms were opposite each other and there was a chair in between, so it was hard to open the doors without moving the chair, and forget opening the window with the chair in the way. A few things to know before you go: The breakfast was very adequate and staff works very hard to keep it stocked. The location is great. The lobby has a very nice seating area. The bedding is old and decorative pillows are dusty. The rooms smell like cigarette smoke and there are ashtrays in the room, so smoking is expected. Some safety/convenience issues: They ask you to leave the keys at the desk when you go out, so it is kind of a bother if you need to run back for something quick. They do not ask for ID when you pick up your keys at the desk. You have to put your key in a slot in the room in order to turn on the lights, but if you leave the room, the door swings shut and locks behind you. We did not lock ourselves out, but it was a real bother with the kids in the next room. The shower has no curtain, so the polished bathroom floor gets slippery even with a mat. The rooms were hot even though temperatures outside were cool (AC does not come on until later in the spring), so we opened the windows. If I had a small child I would be very concerned about window safety because they are low. There are no screens, but it wasn’t buggy at all. The elevator only accommodates one person with a suitcase. Overall I thought this hotel worked well enough for our family once we adjusted our expectations about space in the...
Read moreThe Hotel Levant is a charming historic place on a bustling tourist street in the Latin Quarter. It is about a block from the river Seine and very near Notre Dame. The staff are great, the breakfast is quite good, and the price is reasonable. Much of the hotel is decorated with photos of the hotel itself in the past century or so, and with souvenirs and mementos from those decades. There's a lot to like.
But you should know what you are getting into if you consider this hotel and make sure that it's what you want. First of all the hotel is old, and, like all old hotels that aren't famous grand hotels, it seems somewhat small and cramped. There is no airy lobby, but rather a cozy sitting room type lounge. The elevator barely holds a person and two suitcases. The breakfast room is kind of tight. It is a really delightful hotel, but it is not going to give you the open feeling that most modern hotels do.
Bathroom in my room was great. AC was so good I had to set it at 24 in order for it not to be too cold (and it was very hot outside during my visit). Bed was quite comfortable, other than the long roll type pillow that was difficult to remove if you didn't want to use it.
Most of all, the staff could not have been nicer. I had to set up a cell phone using the hotel wi-fi and the staff let me leave my phone at the desk while it downloaded everything. They called me a taxi, called back to make sure it took credit cards, and constantly went out of their way to be helpful. Breakfast was quite good, with lots of breads and cakes, fruits, cereals, cold meat and cheese, and so on.
I don't mind being on a busy street that is full of tourist cafes and restaurants and, well, full of tourists from about 1000h to about 2300h. If you do not like to be on a very busy street full of tourists, however, this is not the...
Read moreFirst time visiting this hotel. Picked it due to location, price and generally good reviews. Selected the cheapest “double” room. Room was small, as expected, but “double” bed felt more like a large single than a true double. It was a single occupancy room, so I guess it made sense.
Despite being directly in front of the elevator, the room was quiet. Rarely heard anything, except when some people were going down the stairs. Room was facing courtyard, so very quiet. Very well lit, but no USB ports, so be sure to bring your own. Plenty of power sockets though. In the winter, room is heated via a radiator, s9 be sure to adjust the knob if your are too hot. Thermostat on wall is just for summer AC. Decent wifi, and all regular TV channels, plus a few various international ones as well.
Decent bathroom with basic necessities. Low hot water pressure on first 2 mornings, but this seemed to have been resolved on third day. Very clean throughout.
Elevator is sometimes blocked by cleaning staff and where will go from basement to a floor and right down to basement again, so customers can’t grab it while they do this. If you tell the receptionist, they will intervene and release it for you. It’s usually just in the mornings when they are busy cleaning rooms.
Reception staff was friendly without anything special. I am French, so it’s not a language thing. Upon checkout, they didn’t ask how my stay was/everything was OK? As you would expect in any hotel.
Excellent location, especially if coming from airport via RER B. Just a couple minutes walk. Also plenty of buses and subway lines around hotel that will take you literally anywhere.
Will I return? Possibly, but probably in a nicer room to be away from stairs and elevator.
Excellent breakfast and...
