The location of the hotel is excellent, in walking distance to plenty of restaurants and sites (highly recommend Au Port Du Salut right up the street! Excellent food and live music!). However, our experience with the hotel itself was not ideal unfortunately. The cleanliness of the room was not one of a 4-star hotel. The shower appeared to not have been scrubbed or cleaned at all prior to our stay (I understand bathrooms typically are more high maintenance to keep clean, but for a 4-star hotel I'd expect a much higher standard of cleanliness than what we received), the end tables next to the bed were filled with dust, and even the mini fridge in the room had a stain inside and smelled. The wi-fi also didn't work during the length of our stay. After our first night we went to the front desk agent requesting if he could grab us an extra towel. The response was that someone would be right up to deliver that. We went back up to our room, removed our do not disturb sign for a couple hours, until we could no longer wait. Usually when a guest makes a direct request to the front desk it should be taken as a more timely request. A lovely housekeeper had to assist us the next day with the towel when she was cleaning another room on our floor. The towel situation was very very minimal compared to the real issue. My husband and I were celebrating our honeymoon and very adamant about only selecting hotels for our trip that had advertised air conditioning in the room as we both have trouble sleeping in warmer environments. Night 2 the hotel turned off the air conditioning completely and switched over to heat. A little after 9am after little to no sleep my husband and I went down to the front desk thinking there was maybe something wrong with our temperature controls in the room. The front desk agent was very unpleasant (he hadn't cracked a single smile once during our stay). He told us that they switched over to heat and he simply "could not please all of the guests" and did not provide any type of solution. When we told him we were trying to get a bit more sleep as we hadn't slept all night due to the heat, in a judgmental tone said "You're trying to sleep now?" and after asking multiple times very reluctantly he turned the air conditioning back on temporarily. We asked if we could minimally be provided with a bed sheet as the beds in the hotel are only a fitted sheet for the mattress and a very heavy comforter. Well, the hotel doesn't carry bed sheets at all apparently. Later that day someone delivered us a duvet cover to compensate for the lack of bed sheet to help us sleep a little more comfortably. We opened up the windows for the remaining nights to help with keeping the room cooler in the evenings, but because the windows have no screens we were just met with lots of flies/bugs getting into the room. I felt like I was really misled with the fact the hotel advertises air conditioning in the room when in reality it's air conditioning at the discretion of the front desk agent. My husband and I slept miserably the entirety of our stay, which was very disappointing and impacted our entire trip. I would have selected a different hotel if I was aware of how they handle their air conditioning. Finally, I would also say the checkout experience needs to be improved. Our flight was delayed by 8 hours so we had to switch to a very early morning flight. When checking out the front desk agent repeatedly kept going back and forth from saying we were all set and then hold on wait and back to saying we're all set. We then asked if we could see a bill/receipt for our stay, which the agent didn't comply. Some of the staff at the hotel was very pleasant, but others most certainly were not. Being our honeymoon (the hotel did put fake rose petals on our bed which was one nicety, but doesn't compensate for the negatives), I was so hopeful that we would enjoy our stay. I highly recommend this location and neighborhood, but not the hotel...
Read moreThis small hotel is in a good position close to the Luxemburg Gardens. Luxemburg is on the RER B line, with direct services to Gare du Nord and the Charles de Gaulle Airport. Come out of the station by the Gay Lussac exit, walk down Rue Gay Lussac take the second right turning , Rue Royer Collard, up a small incline at the end of Rue Royer Collard turn right into Rue Saint Jacques and the hotel is just 25m down Rue Saint Jacques . Be sure not to miss the hotel the entrance, it is inconspicuous. The staff were all very friendly, don’t expect the grand reception and lounges that you get in bigger hotels. My room though small was tastefully decorated and looked out over the courtyard, my friends room was decorated a hideous shade of red, with large plastic blobs were the bed head should be. The air-conditioning was perfect, absolutely silent, and would quickly heat the room up in the morning. Rooms overlooking the Rue Saint Jacques can be noisy late at night with revellers and cars and in the morning when the rubbish is collected. Breakfast is served in the small lounge. The breakfast though not expansive is more than adequate with scrambled eggs, cold meats, cheeses, tomatoes, breads, pastries and fruits. Breakfast finishes at 11am which suits night owls. There is a small courtyard where you can take breakfast if the weather is mild. Free Tea and Coffee is available all day. There is no bar as such, but an honesty bar, help yourself to beer, wine or sprits, fill the form and hand it to reception who will charge your account, but check the drink prices. ||There are several restaurants nearby, we found Bistro Mauzac and Au Port du Salut. The bistro Mauzac has a fairly typical Paris Menu, the “butchers piece” varies, you might get a superb bavette of beef or a rather tough steak. The Au Port du Salut has a good menu and there is also a pianist playing classic French songs most nights. There are lots of Chinese / Vietnamese restaurants nearby, but I wouldn’t go all that way for a Chinese meal. Now value for money, I am not sure, as I have not much experience of Paris Hotels but it did seem expensive to me. Even so I would...
