I’ll start with the good things about this hotel. This was my wife and my first trip to Paris and with the encouragement of our family and friends, we decided to stay in the 5th Arrondissement (Latin Quarter). The Grand Hotel Saint Michel has a great location within this district with many walkable destinations (Luxembourg Gardens, Pantheon, Sorbonne, others). The staff were all pleasant and welcoming upon our arrival. When I booked our stay, I reserved the “superior” room (vs the standard). I did this for one reason; the description of the superior room indicated it was larger (10+ SF). We knew European hotel rooms tended to be on the smaller side, so the extra space was important to us. When we checked in, the staff indicated that we were very fortunate because we were getting one of the few rooms with a balcony. We didn’t really care about a balcony (truthfully, the balcony wasn’t really big enough to sit and enjoy), we just wanted to check in as it had been a very long travel day. After the second day I stopped and reviewed the floor plans for the various rooms the hotel had to offer. It was at this time that I realized that the room we had been put into was actually one of the smaller rooms. With only one more night in our stay and not wanting the hassle of transferring rooms, I didn’t say anything until our departure. The front desk staff explained to me that the “balcony rooms” are superior rooms because of the “enhanced” accommodations but they are not as big as the other superior rooms. So, if you are wanting the extra space of a “superior” room, don’t accept a balcony room or you will be disappointed.

Let me start by saying, the Grand Hotel Saint Michel is a beautiful hotel, in a decent area of Paris. The staff here were top-notch, very nice and informative. The cleaners were fantastic and always kept the room sparkling. Location-wise, it's pretty good. Seemed like a clean and safe area, mind you there was a garbage strike so hard to judge the clean part accurately. Short walk to the Pantheon. The room we had was a really cool, unique room. Never seen one like it. One of a kind. Sofa bed down like 5 stairs, little outdoor area off of the living room area. Queen bed upstairs. The bed was ok, not as comfortable as I would have expected. Free waters were a nice addition to the room. As we're the cookies. The same remote for the TVs in the room was odd and posed some issues. No Netflix built-in which was a bummer. The washroom is where some issues were. The rain shower head was absolutely horrible and useless. The hot water seemed to be very limited. The warmer you made it to, the less pressure there was. Lastly, there was a slight sulphur smell, but I think that may just be Paris plumbing. I doubt I'd stay here again, not because I didn't enjoy our stay but because I like trying new properties. 4/5. _______________________ Follow me for more reviews, tips and photos!

Definitely not a 4-star hotel. Although we paid for a room with a bathtub, we were given a room for people with disabilities that didn’t even have a glass shower enclosure. When we requested a room change, they told us to ask for it in the middle of our 5-day stay. Seeing that the rest of the hotel facilities were not renovated, we decided to stay in the suite, which was renovated. However, when I looked out the window, I noticed that the bathroom window, which is visible from all the apartments and a side street school, was completely transparent even with the curtains closed (see photo). Despite the absurd lack of privacy, they said they would change our suite only the following day. Furthermore, in the same suite, the window didn’t seal out the wind, so they gave me some masking tape which I applied myself, as shown in the second video. Two days before our stay ended, we moved to another room with a tiny bathtub and a shower that kept falling off. This hotel is only worth it for its location. The staff seem attentive but are not efficient.

We stayed at this hotel this past week. Here are my thoughts:

Location:

Great location. About a 10 min walk to the Notre Dame and to the main shopping attractions in St.Germain. It's in a quiet area, right next to the Sorbonne. It's also
