I would like to start my review with the positive points because that's just the way I am.
The rooms are very clean. Bed was comfortable.
Ok now on to the negatives..
We requested early check in. Upon arrival, I let the reception know that we were early but requested an early check in. I gave her the name on the reservation and she looked at our reservation and said there was nothing available. How she can tell based on my reservation was beyond me. She didn't even bother checking the system! She said they were fully booked the previous night and nobody has checked out yet. So I asked her if there was some place we could stay to wait for our room as I was exhausted from our red eye with no sleep.
She pointed at the couch that was in the lobby directly across from her. The alternative she mentioned was this dark hallway to the entrance of two rooms, with a small couch in there. My husband and I decided to wait it out.
3 hours of waiting, I decided to ask her if there was any luck with a room (by now more than 8 people have checked out). She said the cleaners were cleaning. That's when I requested if they could clean ours first. I felt like I had to ask her to do everything! She didn't even care about the fact that we sat directly across from her waiting for almost 4 hours. She didn't even look at us, asked us if we were ok. Of course she didn't care, obviously she didn't feel like it was her job.
The receptionist was rude, uncaring, and I felt like I had to work very hard just to get what I requested for!
The nice thing about sitting around for 4 hours is that you get to watch the receptionist interact with others too. The elevator apparently was broken for more than 5 days, and a lady was trying to tell her how difficult it was for her to get up/down 5 flights of stairs to her room everyday. And how come she was never notified that the elevators were broken and she could have chosen whether to stay or not. The receptionist never apologized, the poor lady had to tell her she should be compensated for this. Then the receptionist said she can give her a free breakfast the next day. (Does that seem like a great token of apology to anyone?)
The only thing going for this hotel is that it is very close to everything and Luxembourg station. We initially wanted to stay at Select Hotel close by, but they were $80 more expensive than this one.
If you don't care about service, and want to pay ridiculous prices for unfriendly staff, and a place to crash, then this is it! But there are much better hotels in Paris in my...
Read moreWe had wonderful three nights stay. We were very impressed with the cleanliness of the bed linens, towels, bedroom, bathroom and furniture inside our two hotel rooms. Our rooms were bigger compared to the average sizes of other hotel rooms in the Paris city center. .Our hotel rooms on the fifth and sixth floors were very quiet especially at night We loved the healthy breakfast food prepared by the friendly hotel staff. The hotel receptionist Lufti was very helpful and knowledgeable in guiding us on what was the best transportation tickets to purchase, giving us a copy of Paris map and showing us how to travel to the attractive tourist spots in Paris and nearby places. Hotel Elysa has very good location because it is very near to the RER B Luxembourg train station, metro and bus stations which gave us efficient travel time to see the beautiful places in Paris. The Luxembourg garden, Pantheon and Notre Dame are just walking distance from the hotel. There are lots of restaurants, bakeries, a grocery store and pharmacy near Hotel Elysa. The hotel receptionist also helped us to reserve a taxi cab on our last day to go to the airport. We would definitely recommend Hotel Elysa to our family members, relatives and friends. Thank you very much to the receptionists and staff of Hotel Elysa for making our stay in Paris a very happy, amazing and memorable...
Read moreAs a traveler to Paris multiple times, I have finally found my favorite hotel! After a nine hour flight, it was a joy to find a welcoming staff of professionals, a stunningly beautiful room, and the best location around. The Elysa Luxembourg is steps away from cafes, bistros, now my favorite boulangerie/bakery. It is a short walk to the breathtaking Luxembourg Gardens, The Sorbonne, the Pantheon, Notre Dame, The Cluny Museum, walking the Seine, and an array of Bookstores. Thirteen universities are in the Latin Quarter so the number of food types and prices are numerous. The week i was there I found a great Indian restaurant, as well as Chinese, French, American, and Arabic food. It is a food lovers delight. We took the hop on hop off bus, Toot bus, starting near Notre dame, to see an overview of the historical and iconic places of Paris along the Seine and into the major Boulevards. Stopping at the Eiffel Tower was a dream fulfilled, The Champs Elysees, The Louvre, and the Place De La Concorde are a few of the other stops. By doing my homework on You Tube, I learned basic French phrases, got travel tips from Les Frenchies, and the Easy French ladies. If it rains, the Hotel Elysa has umbrellas to share. This is a comfortable, boutique hotel with a dynamic, caring and joyful staff. I recommend this hotel and will...
