Five months ago, we booked another two stays this year at Smaragdi - we had stayed there 3 times in 2017. We requested a specific room - the only one with a balcony. Georgia, the owner, confirmed the room was available and the booking was confirmed.||||About a month before our arrival, I emailed Georgia and she confirmed our reservation for that room was still confirmed. The day before we arrived, I advised Georgia of our arrival time. She made no mention that there was a problem with our reservation.||||However, when we arrived at Smaragdi, another lady met us and led us to a room downstairs at the back of Smaragdi that had NO balcony, it stank of cigarette smoke and had a back door which was not secure and that led onto a back alley which we felt was a security risk. We refused the room and asked for the room we had reserved.||||After some excuses it became clear that another couple had arrived who also wanted that room but for a longer stay so it was given to them with no regard of her commitment to us.||||This should not have surprised us as she did the same thing to us last year (2017) when we returned for the 2nd of our 3 stays with her.||||It is clear that one cannot trust Georgia to honour her commitments to reservations made well in advance as they will be changed without any notice if another more favourable offer...
Read moreWe decided last minute to spend the final night of our trip back in Chania, so as it was the end of our trip we wanted something cheap, cheerful and relatively central.||||We couldn't have been more lucky!||These rooms were basic with very comfortable beds, air con and small kitchenette.||They were located in a lovely part of the old town, accessible to eveything.||||Georgia was very pleasant and helpful, making sure we had a map and recommending places to eat. ||She asked about what time we would like to check out, and we mentioned that we had a late flight, leaving Chania for 6:30pm so asked if we could leave our luggage.||Georgia checked the following nights booking, and as they were not checking in until 8pm, she said that we could stay in the apartment until 5/6 at no extra charge. We were very grateful for this and really felt she went above and beyond to please us.||||Thank you Georgia for a very enjoyable stay, we will stay again when...

Some of the towels were not entirely clean and there was no shower gel. If your plan is to walk/travel around Chania (which it should be ;)) and use the room only for showering/sleeping, it is a cheap enough option (45€/day, end of June, one person). If you don't mind spending some extra money on accommodation, you can always choose...
