Melangel — Hotel in Municipality of Mykonos

Melangel was one of the best lodging experiences I’ve ever had, not exclusively in Greece, but anywhere in the world. This unique and intimate property offers the best aspects of a boutique hotel, while simultaneously offering guests the level of service one would expect from a top international resort. This successful fusion of boutique hotel ambiance with five-star resort hospitality could only be achieved by a superb team. Armen and Suzanna, the kind owners of the property, greeted me with welcoming warmth and cordiality that continued throughout my weeklong Aegean vacation.

The Melangel suites are simply gorgeous. Words fail to describe the alluring beauty of the property’s interior designs. I recommend viewing photos of the rooms and décor on the Melangel web site to preview the wow! factor you will experience upon arrival. Both rooms are extremely comfortable, fitted with high-quality bedding and bath towels. The apartment-style kitchens have minibars stocked with a wide variety of reasonably priced snacks and beverages. The double room offers 1-2 guests a multi-leveled patio with 180-degree views of the waterfront from the Chora to the New Ferry Terminal in the north. Sunsets from this patio are extraordinary, a very good reason for singles or couples to consider booking the double room over the suite. The larger suite, which accommodates up to four guests in a king bed and premium fold-out sofa, has similar amenities, including a large patio with afternoon shade and privacy.

From the picturesque whitewashed front steps at the front of Melangel, the Mykonos Chora is but a short and straightforward 5-7 minute walk downhill. Nightclubs are distant enough that Melangel guests can enjoy a peaceful night of sleep.

The owners offer transfers between Melangel and airport or ferry terminal for an additional fee. I needed multiple transfers to and from airport and ferry pier. Every transfer took place in a timely and accommodating fashion, with my hosts escorting me through the transportation hub, confirming my reservations, and significantly easing what can often be the most hectic and confusing aspect of international travel.

Where to begin, our stay at Melangel was a great start to our first time in Greece. Though our stay in Mykonos was only 2.5 days, owner Armen, truly went above and beyond to make our stay such a breeze. Armen contacted me a few days in advance to answer any of my questions and ensured to arrange transportation to the hotel once we arrived, which I will highly recommend. Once we arrived Armen and his wife picked us up directly from the port. Armen is very knowledgeable and provided us a brief tour of the city. Our hotel room was nothing less of amazing. You will not regret staying at Melangel! The sunset view alone is unlike anywhere. The room was very neat, clean, and most comfortable bed ever! To my surprised the bed was a California king size bed, some of the best sleep I have had! The room has all necessary amenities included, along with a convenient refrigerator and coffee maker. Armen has thought of everything as the room is equipped with USB ports for outlets. No need to worry about carrying a European charger. While we arrived during off season, Armen provided us many recommendations, including the restaurant Kazarma, we ended up having great lunch both days. Armen, maintained open communication with me via whats up and ensured to let us know he was available at any time during our stay. I can’t thank him enough for going out of his way to sit down with me and contact hotels in Santorini to find a perfect room. After more than an hour on the phone, Armen found a perfect location for our next island. Armen also provided us with many recommendations for great food and great photo locations in Santorini. On our last morning, Armen himself walked us down to the port for our next trip. Our stay at Melangel was perfect! Not to mention, Melangel is located in a perfect location just a 3 minute walk to the town. Stay here!! The owners, Armen and Suzanna are fantastic hosts, and I have never been more impressed (and I have done a fair amount of traveling in my life). The accommodations are incredible, and the owners are so thoughtful.

The room itself is beautiful- the nicest by far out of our stays in Athens, Santorini, and Mykonos- there is a king sized bed with incredible sheets, a kitchenette with 3 mini bars (with prices similar to a local market, not artificially inflated for profit) great breakfast each morning (the table set by Armen himself on the front patio- yes, more than one patio), good wifi, and a great location minutes away from the city center (but still outside so that we did not have to drag suitcases across the cobblestone streets!)

They also go out of their way to ensure that we are comfortable, and have been incredibly helpful in booking reservations at popular spots we would otherwise NEVER be able to get into on short notice. When we arrive at restaurants, bars, or clubs and say that our reservation was made by Armen, the hosts/hostesses faces light up, and we go from being simple tourists to special guests who are friends of his family. We have routinely sat at the best tables at restaurants because of his connections- I get the impression that Armen knows everyone here, and that his family is very highly regarded. And, despite having other guests, he and Suzanna make us feel special, and avail themselves for anything we need.

Melangel deserves more than 5 stars. It is more than a room, it is an experience, and deserves all the recognition in the world. I will recommend to all of my friends and family if they are ever planning a trip to Greece.
