AVOID! our server was tall, dark and short hair with facial hair and tattoos on his arms.
our food (minus the honey feta starter and baked feta) was AWFUL! we had this pre booked after seeing some good reviews, this was my 21st birthday meal.
do not get the meatballs. they literally can not stay together, as soon as your fork touches them them collapse, nice and sloppy. chips were barely warm and somehow even the tomato sauce on the meatballs was tasteless. i cannot say a single good thing about my main course. it genuinely looked like something from a primary school canteen. no presentation or taste. i ended up leaving half of it.
as this was a treat from my mum i did not want to complain or tell her how horrific my meal was but the fact i had barely eaten probably gave it away.
mum had the seabass which was recommended by the waiter. he told her it came with potatoes. when it arrived, no potatoes to be seen. she asked him and he got her some.
the fish was quite literally, just slapped on a plate. full of bones, not filleted. mum explained to the waiter that she was not expecting it to be like this and he got defensive but actually offered to have someone come and fillet it for her but her being a people pleaser said she would do it herself. she said she wish she had picked something else as this is not really what she was expecting. the vegetables were stone cold. did not touch them.
after not being able to finish my sad looking meal and mum had enough of hers, leaving all the COLD vegetables. i went to the toilet. they were full so i had to wait.
i came out, expecting our bill to be paid by now and to be leaving but our plates were still sat on our table. it was clear that the waiter was ignoring us. in the end we actually had to ASK the waiter to clear our table for us??!!
mum was explaining she was disappointed in her meal, the unfilleted fish, the lack of potatoes and the cold veggies.
i spoke up at this point about my cold chips. the waiter did not apologise once for anything and instead became rude and defensive. clearly cannot take criticism. don’t work at a restaurant if you can’t handle complaints?!
we did not get asked if we would like dessert, so we asked for the bill.
we paid the full bill. around 85€. neither of us enjoyed our main meal at all, wish we had gone elsewhere.
we spoke to the waiter and another man who was in a black polo top, i admit we did cause a scene because the service was honestly so horrific and the MALE waiters were absolutely awful. snide, unprofessional comments.
the restaurant was nice, toilets were not as nice but fine. location good but would never...

From the moment we arrived, guided by the charming Mr. Petro, we knew we were in for an extraordinary dining experience. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, setting the perfect backdrop for what turned out to be a memorable meal.
I kicked off my culinary adventure with the dip sampler, which was a delightful introduction to the flavors of the Mediterranean. Among the offerings, the vine leaves and the star of the show—Zatziki—stole my heart. The Zatziki was nothing short of sensational; its creamy texture and tangy flavor had me ordering an extra plate just to savor every last bit. A true testament to how a simple dip can elevate a dining experience!
Next up were the perfect grilled sardines. These little gems were expertly cooked to perfection, with a crisp skin and tender, flavorful flesh. Each bite was infused with a hint of smokiness that beautifully complemented the natural richness of the fish. It was a dish that transported me straight to the shores of Greece, reminding me of the simple joys of fresh seafood.
For the main course, I opted for the whole grilled sea bass. Freshly caught and expertly prepared, the fish was succulent and flaky, with a taste so rich and buttery that I found myself savoring each bite as if it were a decadent treat. It was a dish that showcased the finest in seafood, leaving me utterly satisfied.
The service was exceptional, too. Our waitress, whose name escapes me but hails from Athens, was genuinely kind and attentive, especially to my little one. Her warmth added to the overall ambiance, making us feel right at home.
In summary, everything about this meal was fantastic. The combination of outstanding food, friendly service, and a welcoming atmosphere made for an unforgettable evening. Kudos to the team for maintaining such high standards! I can't wait to return on my next visit to Mykonos—this restaurant has truly...
Read moreDisappointing Experience Despite Promising Atmosphere and reviews – Kavos Taverna, Mykonos
We were initially drawn to Kavos Taverna by its beautiful setting and attractive-looking menu. The atmosphere seemed perfect for a nice evening out. Unfortunately, the experience quickly turned sour.
Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted by a lady who showed us to our table. However, shortly after, a male staff member approached and the mood shifted. We asked a simple question about the difference between the "fish of the day" and the fillet of sea bass. His response was not only dismissive but carried a condescending tone. He stated that the fish of the day was €80 per kilo, and when my partner expressed concern about the price, he replied curtly that the fillet wouldn’t be juicy or enjoyable, implying we were making a poor choice.
Rather than offering helpful insight or options, his attitude was arrogant and unwelcoming. He insisted that for a "real experience" we should choose the fish of the day — as if the rest of the menu wasn’t worth our time. It felt as though he genuinely believed the hype around the place and expected us to simply accept it.
Feeling uncomfortable and disrespected, we got up and left. My partner shared his concerns directly with the staff member before leaving.
Mykonos is undeniably expensive, but when you're paying premium prices, basic respect and hospitality should be a given — not just nice decor. Sadly, this wasn't the case here.
We were also left wondering whether there was an underlying cultural issue, as we didn’t feel particularly welcomed as Black guests. While we can't say for sure, it added to the discomfort.
Overall, I wouldn’t recommend Kavos Taverna. There are better, more respectful places to enjoy a meal in Mykonos without the pretence or...
